You guys don't have to cut your cats off. Just order an offroad h pipe or x pipe which ever you'd prefer with mil kit and o2 extention harness, it's fairly cheap under $300 for everything I would say. This way if you ever want to put the car back to original you can. Oh and don't forget a new gasket for passenger side header , it goes between the h pipe and manifold without it you'll have an exhaust leak
I got a 96 GTs with the pi swapped heads and full bolt ons. I want to add a cam to the heads. Heads are ported. I didnt shave them though. I was wondering if I get the 270 cam will I have clearance? I know i wont with the 278 but what about the 270? anyone knows? Help will be appreciated.
im pretty sure i didnt waste my money on my borla..its gonna suck when your flowmasters rot out in a few thousand miles while im still driving around with my lifetime guaranteed borla
I've used Flowmasters on all my V8's and never had a problem with them, I have a couple buddys who have nice rock crawlers and use flowmasters on them.
Never had a problem with any of them.
I've put 10K miles on the Flowmaster 40's on my 02 GT Stang since I put them on, and was hard running them when I got them and they sound good as hell.
i will admit they sound good..thats why i asked the shops about them..but i wanted a bit more performance to go with the sound..not to mention the warranty so i went with the borla. but they could just be telling me that trying to make more money since the flows i was looking at were like $90 and the borla i got was $600 lol
lol I guarantee you that's what they were doing. My 02 GT is true dual stock, and it only cost me $200 for both of the Flowmaster 40's and to get them welded in.
Just flowmaster 40's and a nice audio system. Right now I'm working on a Eaton M112 supercharger swap. I'm taking the stock Eaton off of a 03/04 Cobra and strapping it to my GT.
thats awesome..u gonna build up the engine any before that? bc unless you're running an ass load of boost i dont see how you would get 400 to the wheels seeing as to how a stock cobra doesnt get near that to the wheels and its got a DOHC engine and a lot of other internal upgrades
There's no need to, running 9 pounds of boost, the stock 2v 4.6 is safe and should pull close to 375 rwhp. There's guys running the Eaton's on the 2v's that are running 11 pounds and have close to 415 hp. I've got a set of cams I might throw in before the supercharger, but I may just sell them to help cover the supercharger cost. The Cobra's were actually way underrated, they really pulled close to 380 stock rwhp.
yeah they said a conservative 390 hp to the crank for insurance purposes lol..if i were you id forget the eaton and get a kenne bell or a whipple..theyre much more efficient and are capable of much more power than an eaton, even a ported eaton. what color is your car and how many miles?
I'm very well aware...I'd kill for a KB s/c but I can put the Eaton on for less than $2500. I was gonna go with a Vortech (i can put it on for $2200), but you only produce good power at high rpm's where as the Eaton produces power at any rpm. Plus the stock internals in the 2v 4.6's are only good up to about 430 whp and the car is my daily driver, I still have to have reliability. lol
mines silver too and has 73k..but yeah never go with a centrifugal supercharger theyre basically a turbo..and yeah i know what u mean about the prices of the kb theyre pretty outrageous..ull be one lucky dude if you get that eaton..at this point id kill for any type of forced induction lol
The KB's aren't bad for what you can do with them, but I'll be damned if I'm gonna spend $5k on forged internals then $5k on a s/c when I'll probably only have the car another 4-5 years...lol. Even in that case, I can get a LS1 powered car, drop 5k in it and push a lot more torque than the 4.6's can.
haha that is true but ive never been a big fan of the 350's..i mean yeah theres no replacement for displacement but im just not very impressed about the numbers they came with out of the factory, even if they are underrated 325 hp from that big of an engine compared to 260 from a 281 seems like they couldve done a lot more to them
I love the LS series of engines, they're all very versatile and pretty much indestructible if taken care of. I used to have a 01 Trans Am, it was sick. They have to leave room to improve lol, with just $1000 you can take the LS1 and make it put out 450 hp.
yeah i will say they are pretty indestructible..but one other thing i love more about the 4.6 is the sound. yeah the small block chevy is "the sound of America" lol but idk theres just something about the ford short block sound that i love
amen dude..the new challenger is a poor excuse for a muscle car..it may look good but its way over weight and handles like the titanic..yes it may have "hemi power" but its still no competition for the mustang or camaro especially when the 2011 gt hits the streets..not to mention the chassis for the challenger is aged, it shares it with the 300 and the charger..way too luxury biased
You can used dished pistons but the will still need to be flycut/notched. The clearance point of the valve is toward the outside of the piston near the ring land.
It's hard to say what the cams alone added. I built the engine all at one time. I ran a baseline Dyno with only gears and a catback and put down 225 rwhp and 247 rwtq (stock engine). The heads, cams, CAI, TB/Plenum, pulleys catted H-pipe and headers added 83 rwhp and 64 rwtq.
mine would do circles around urs lol

I think the flowmaster mufflers sound so much better on the mustans then dynomax. They wake up the cars so much better.
Tiger99dawg 2 years ago
People who think Flowmaster's drone and don't flow good are just jealous because they wasted $500 on their Dynomax, Magnaflow, or Borla setup.

Funny how we put 100K on the Flowmaster 40 on the Sierra which we used both for offroad and hauling purposes and haven't had any problems.
Flowmasters never rot. They're not like cheap ass glasspacks.

maybe youre lucky bc every exhaust shop ive been to has warned me about flowmasters doing that

lol a short block is just a block thats not dressed with heads, etc.
The cammed LS1's through Flow 40's sound so mellow. I'd killed for a cammed LS2 Goat.
Either way as long as it's GM or Ford, I'd buy it. The hell with Dodge.

My point exactly.
Even then it costs $14k more than an SS Camaro which runs rings around the Challenger and looks better doing it.

haha exactly

Not to mention your cheap plastic dash might come off. Dodge has the crappiest interiors i've ever seen.

Yep, and right now its fairly decent, we had about 5 inches of snow friday night but it's melted now.
I'm fixin to get my cats cut off of the Mustang. It makes them sound wicked.
Jake111992 2 years ago
i wish i could cut mine off, even if it does smell horrible lol..but dang emissions down here suck. so i think im gonna get a catted magnaflow x pipe
coolguy3432 2 years ago
@coolguy3432
It doesn't smell that bad. I've been looking at a 01 Bullitt that i might buy, and it's had the cats cut off. It only smells like it's running rich.

well in my uncles 01 viper gts he got his cats cut off and it smells awful lol

how much horsepower did you gain from the cams?
joelopes23 3 years ago
It's hard to say what the cams alone added. I built the engine all at one time. I ran a baseline Dyno with only gears and a catback and put down 225 rwhp and 247 rwtq (stock engine). The heads, cams, CAI, TB/Plenum, pulleys catted H-pipe and headers added 83 rwhp and 64 rwtq.
mdltrn 3 years ago
A buddy of mine had a 01 GT automatic, and swapped for Stage 2 Comp Cams and he said he had close to a 25-30 hp gain.
Jake111992 2 years ago
Hey did you have to do any aditional head/piston work for these cams?
simman22 3 years ago
yes, you will either need notched pistons, like Diamond Pistons or you will need to flycut the pistons in order to provide clearence for the valves
mdltrn 3 years ago
Sounds like a beast.
