What Kanjorski means is, people got the idea that the instant the democrats got elected, a vote would be cast, the war would end, and that would be that. Good, at least we have one FACT, we agree on. Japan started the war with the United States. Now let us move on the second FACT, we ended the war by dropping the two atomic bombs. You can find lots of the "intellectuals" who will make lots of claims about whether or not we should or should not done that. Not one of them knows with ABSOLUTE CERTAINTY what would have happen had we not done it. The one thing we do know for CERTAIN is what DID happen, which was the Japanese unconditional surrendered.

But don't discount our contribution either. Without the US, there is absolutely no doubt that Germany and Japan would have divided the world between them. Even before we got into the war directly, we were sending many supplies to England, keeping them alive.

Some free oil to bring down gas prices would help. Do we control Japan? How about some military forces in Iraq that can fight and not just do auxiliary duties. We have military bases in places we've freed, but it's not an empire. The Soviet Union was an empire.

Rabbitvoz, worthless citation of a study based on guesswork that may or may not have been true. It claimed the Japs might have surrendered by November 1945. If regular bombing and firebombing had continued all those months, at minimum hundreds of thousands more Japanese would have died than did with the war ending in August. The notion that the war would have lasted a few more months is supportive of using the A-bomb to save lives.

Every death at Hiroshima and Nagasaki is on the heads of the Japanese leadership and no one else.
