i got hit by a tornado and i live in MA-it lased over an hour-there was 1 big one which was half a mile long and at least 2 smaller ones-went though most of southern MA

I find it quite ludicrus that the narrator in the video would call the driver in front of them an idiot when they themselves are chasing this violent weather system! One feels empowered when they do NOT see death directly in front of them!!
I was about to leave a scathing remark regarding the goob calling that driver an idiot...you know, the driver who had the AUDACITY to slow down while avoid tree limbs, flying debris and using the oncoming lane to do so. The nerve.
That being said...that was some wicked footage towards the end. Downright insane.

@DivinityzBeAsT Texas gets more because of the size and area of the state. Oklahoma and Kansas get more per square mile than Texas does. OK and Kansas are about 1/5 the size of TX, but each state still averages close to 1/2 the number of tornadoes in Texas. Texas averages around 120 per year, while OK and Ks average around 54 per year. I live close to OKC, and mainly chase storms in the 3 states mentioned. I actually got video of these tornadoes in this video. It was a wild day.
One of the May 10 tornadoes...the one that destroyed some people's houses and killed some people? Well, I remember that one passed through Moore, I got to witness my first sight of rotating clouds right above me. It was amazing...but we were very lucky it didn't touch us. About a block away, a neighborhood was full of houses without roofs. We drove down there and saw someones trampoline that was once in their backyard was now in their house, in their roof, and in their front yard. Crazy ass shit

@3flick3 If you had a tornado touch down right in front of your car you would scream like a girl. I used to storm chase and I have had some close calls myself and I'm telling you it is scary as hell is being close to one of those things when you can see where it is in relation to you but when one forms right on top of you it's terrifying. Criticize all you want. You really don't know what the hell you are talking about.
So that was a barn I saw going up from where I was filming this tornado. At the time I didn't know if it was a house or what. The first thing in my video I see going up is a tree, then I see parts of the barn going up in the air.

Your Wakita video may only have around 4,000 views at this time, it don't mean these guys have a better one just because they have 133390 at the time I'm typing this. Most of the people on here complain about the screaming and the violently shaking cameras which I'm one of them, but I at least checked yours also, I'll start taking note of who doesn't yell and watch their's.

may 10th was the day of my spring concert(or some time close to the 10th) in mustang i thought we were gonna get hit by a tornado but we didnt and i could tell where they were happening becuz one side where i looked it was brite, sunny and some clouds. the other side was like dark and evil
I was in the Jeep on the left side of the road, in the beginning of this video, and I was terrified! I'm not sure which was scarier, the tornadoes or the way all the storm chasers were driving! It was like being on a racetrack!

I just "side stepped" the tornado by going a little north and let it pass by, then I headed south to avoid the hail.

So they put this video up the day after this all happened.. I was in Medford at the time.. Talk about scary.. the sirens went off around 3:58 and the warning was issued a few minutes before.. That's a long time considering the speed of this monster. Alot of things could have happpened before the sirens went off.. The storm could have went south so more and we would have all been screwed.. Thank goodness we have storm chasers :)

Too much shaking of the camera, water on lens, and videotaping through wet car windows. .Also, even though it's hard to get up close to these little weak tornadoes because they are so short-lived, you would do better to stop and record with windows open.

Apparently you don't know anything about Vortex2 for starters.Are there any chasers idiotic enough to drive into a tornado? Only one I can think of. @zipperboy2 Not everybody's funded 500 K per year to have an armored car to get inside a tornado either. He wouldn't do this without the "Dominator'. If Reed was sitting right where I was, he still would have gotten the intercept, because this tornado came right at me. I had to move on account that an S-10 pickup isn't bullet proof and would also be tossed if the winds hit it right. If I fly, I'd rather be in a plane.
I find tornado chasing a beautiful investigative, while dangerous, art... but calling a slow moving vehicle an idiot? Especially in the case of severe weather. Their safety, and yours, is more important than your shot. While this footage is beautiful, the loud mouth ruined this entire compilation. Being passionate is not the same as being obnoxious, but I commend you for the effort....

You claim to be chasing these supercell thunderstorms all in the name of science - I assume to help protect the lives of your fellow man. However, all I see here is thrill seeking and blatent disrepect for a fellow driver in front of you. You tailgated him/her into the path of the tornado; you cared neither whether or not they were hit by falling trees, were lifted up by the tornado, killed, or hurt. The person in front of you is FAR more precious than any whirlwind.
Rockin' footage. Love them on Stormchasers. The yelling totally rules! Thats what makes the stormchasers show even more dramatic. If you want dull and dry chasing go hop on the doppler unit team. This stuff is fast, furious and intense!

Reaction to this footage: I am not sure what the intent is. If it is scientific, I do see the purpose with driving so close to a tornado. If it is for the sake of capturing tornado footage, whomever is shooting this stuff should be fired, immediately. People are risking their lives, and this is what is produced? Horrible, absolutely horrible. Learn to shoot under duress, and then allow others to risk their lives.
This footage is shot by someone who has been handed a camera. That's it.
There are lots of other videos of this outbreak where the photographers acted professionally and managed "necessary communication" without hysterics, or at least had the sense to keep quiet so you could hear the audio.
Ive seen so many good chase videos ruined by chasers who just couldnt stop yelling "do you hear that!" any you cant really hear anything but them.
You dont hear news photographers yelling through their own video, do you?

He's informing the crew throughout this event. There needs to be communication when chasing tornado's. It'd be stupid to stay quiet and shut your mouth. It also helps person with camera locate where tornadoes are, or about to form.
Gotta admit this tho...no driver as good as Joel and no other team as exciting as Joel and Reed. Yeah reed is exciteable but hell that's what makes it exciting...but without Joels calmness here they couldn't make this many good hits on tornadic cells.
I'm pretty sure you guys would be more than hysterical if you were doing the same thing. Its called "communication". Don't give them shit for it, it's necessary.

Too much shaking of the camera, water on lens, and videotaping through wet car windows. .Also, even though it's hard to get up close to these little weak tornadoes because they are so short-lived, you would do better to stop and record with windows open.

Apparently you don't know anything about Vortex2 for starters.Are there any chasers idiotic enough to drive into a tornado? Only one I can think of. And I guess he didn't learn his lesson after getting his face all cut up by shattered Lexan.

@zipperboy2 Not everybody's funded 500 K per year to have an armored car to get inside a tornado either. He wouldn't do this without the "Dominator'. If Reed was sitting right where I was, he still would have gotten the intercept, because this tornado came right at me. I had to move on account that an S-10 pickup isn't bullet proof and would also be tossed if the winds hit it right. If I fly, I'd rather be in a plane.

I find tornado chasing a beautiful investigative, while dangerous, art... but calling a slow moving vehicle an idiot? Especially in the case of severe weather. Their safety, and yours, is more important than your shot. While this footage is beautiful, the loud mouth ruined this entire compilation. Being passionate is not the same as being obnoxious, but I commend you for the effort....

You claim to be chasing these supercell thunderstorms all in the name of science - I assume to help protect the lives of your fellow man. However, all I see here is thrill seeking and blatent disrepect for a fellow driver in front of you. You tailgated him/her into the path of the tornado; you cared neither whether or not they were hit by falling trees, were lifted up by the tornado, killed, or hurt. The person in front of you is FAR more precious than any whirlwind.

Reaction to this footage: I am not sure what the intent is. If it is scientific, I do see the purpose with driving so close to a tornado. If it is for the sake of capturing tornado footage, whomever is shooting this stuff should be fired, immediately. People are risking their lives, and this is what is produced? Horrible, absolutely horrible. Learn to shoot under duress, and then allow others to risk their lives.
This footage is shot by someone who has been handed a camera. That's it.

There are lots of other videos of this outbreak where the photographers acted professionally and managed "necessary communication" without hysterics, or at least had the sense to keep quiet so you could hear the audio.
Ive seen so many good chase videos ruined by chasers who just couldnt stop yelling "do you hear that!" any you cant really hear anything but them.
You dont hear news photographers yelling through their own video, do you?

He's informing the crew throughout this event. There needs to be communication when chasing tornado's. It'd be stupid to stay quiet and shut your mouth. It also helps person with camera locate where tornadoes are, or about to form.

Gotta admit this tho...no driver as good as Joel and no other team as exciting as Joel and Reed. Yeah reed is exciteable but hell that's what makes it exciting...but without Joels calmness here they couldn't make this many good hits on tornadic cells.

We had some nice ones here in Arkansas last night, but they were obscured by the night sky.....and the Baseball sized hail.
I stopped about 50 yards short of the Hopper Tunnel northbound opening on I-540. Crazy baseball hail.
