its funny because i thought the same thing... i started painting miniatures for Warhammer, and its not really that you have to keep your hand steady but work with it. The unsteadyness of it is really just your heart beat. I have comments from people who see my work and say the same thing, my latest work was on a shield a little bit bigger than the size of my thumbnail, and was quite detailed. It takes a little bit of practice and patience, but you will get used to the constant shaking.
