Love Jean Carne..Love this song. She may have been overshadowed by Patti LaBelle (who can really top her?) but Jean can sign jazz and she is backed by her husband. She's still around :)
People make fun of Disco, but these people had the greatest voices. They could sing!
Dear Paul24W... I hear you. Jean Carne was a songstress from way early way before the 90's. I don't think it was the white racist world that missed or didn't undertood her talents. We have Withney, Maria Carey, Gloria Gaunor, Two Tons of fun, as an example. Jean Carn just needed a better promoter. The music is first class, Maybe Narada Michael Walden could have pushed her to the billboard charts? The important thing here is that we agree that Mrs. Carn has plenty of talent.
I guess I'll never figure it out. I mean, how is it they make a person like Madonna a superstar and leave a magnificent talent like Jean Carne in the shadows? Makes absolutely no sense to me. I'm thinking it could be because Ms. Carne was promoted and backed by Gamble and Huff, two Black guys in a white racist world. Jean hits the high and low octaves like nobody else. Great voice.
@ArbitratorMatt Agree with you 100% but sadly talent alone makes no superstar, unless you have a pair of razor sharp teeth, strong elbows and a cool calculating brain!! Jean Carne was perhaps too sweet and mellow or had too much pride? Either way, I hope she is happy and proud of her accomplishments...perhaps she enjoys her freedom today more than Madonna?
