I have swum with these wonderful creatures on numerous occasions, and none of them showed any signs of aggression, although I found they have a tendency to rub their bodies along you which can be scary :L

Some people are so terrified of creatures so much smaller than them. I've petted wild stringrays (probably a bad idea but still) and my brother swam along side a three ft.baracuda. He wasn't afraid. Because he knew that animal wouldn't attack him and he knew how much bigger he was than the fish. Not alot of people can see things like that and misjudge beautiful animals because of thier fearsome appearance.

They sting as an absolute last resort. Only if you accidentally step on them when they're buried under sand or really harass them. I snorkelled over a man sized one a few days ago and it was calm as a biscuits. So incredibly awesome and majestic. Had the experience of my life. I'm way more afraid of jelly fish than these guys.

i saw two baby rays in the inlet at myrtle beach where the water is calm and shallow...they were amazing and easy to observe because of the clear, calm water...always have been my favorite

I swam with these at the Caymans, I'll never forget it. I did see one act of aggression though. One of the people I was with almost stepped on a baby and the mother charged the guy but stopped when she noticed everything was ok. I would recommend anyone doing this just stay away from the babies and watch where you step.

He is a hero, but he died under a circumstance that was uncontrollable. It was a wild animal, and while he was very good with animals, he made the mistake of pulling the barb out of his chest. Unfortunatley, it was right through his heart(another freak accident).
