It said 220 at the beginning because they hadn't updated the tally yet. Obama secured four more states (California, Washington, Oregon, Hawaii) for another 77 electoral votes, bringing him up to 297 and securing the election. Obviously they wouldn't have announced it if he hadn't gotten to 270 yet.

I have a question for you: Why is it ok when a white voter votes for a white candidate but when a black voter votes for a black candidate, then it's only due to skin color? brilliant public figures I've ever seen or heard. Besides all the emotional issues dealing with race, if he gets unemployment under 7%, he's a magician. I think Obama is a person who sees every problem from all angles and weighs solutions in his head on the run, while somehow managing to never completely neglect everything else. I don't know how he is as a physicist (I hate math), but as a statesman and politician, it's almost intimidating for someone to be that smart.

The executive decisions of those companies still rest in the hands of their original owners, not the government, which is only temporarily providing the fiscal resources to keep them from collapsing and further deepening Bush's economic crisis. It's not the same thing as socialistic nationalization like, say, Venezuelan oil companies, where the government actually runs them and has no intention of withdrawing from them.
