This item, like all Apple products was just too expensive at the time for the average consumer; and therefore it failed (But the Superbowl commercial was cool).
Windows came out soon after, and still dominates office buildings worldwide today.... 27 years later....
just imagine how the audience would have freaked out if they would have showen them an imac 27 inch with snow leopard on it 0_0 (sorry for my english)
@Caterpillar86 You should watch The Pirates of the Silicon Valley. A good docudrama about the history of Apple and Microsoft. Then go and watch some keynotes (old and new) by Jobs. The man is a legend.
lol they were so excited about this back then because it was so advanced back then and now you can get much more power than this out of your cell phone.
i dont know how far the technology was in 1984 and if this is something new but steve jobs looks so happy at the end that i thing its something real great
Mainframes were in many large corporations through IBM's efforts, and Wang, but no one had a handle on the public market because systems were titanically large and incredibly expensive. Apple made a powerful, yet small, "personal computer" that everyone could afford and have in there home. This was an incredible achievement and feat.
Now that was a great moment in history. Thanks faqmac for posting this up!! Without that tiny little box...computers for the general public would never have lifted off.
That was actually pretty cool. Even though I use a pc, its only because thats what I have here. I dont really care for either company, since I know how to repair and use both. But I dont like Bill Gates, ever since the day he quit IBM, and took the ideas to build microsoft with it.
my dad bought that 20 years ago, and it's now in my home - still working, though we don't use it anymore. It's great to have the FIRST great computer in my home.
I always cry a bit when I see this video, I can't help it. Just watch him, he is so happy that he has to hold back to keep himself from crying. And the crowd is giving him a standing ovation! This technology back then was like if someone had created a perfectly humanoid robot today that could think, speak and act just like us.
Absolutely great!
