i miss senator wellstone. i met him in 1997, in tampa. i was at the state democratic convention. anyway, we were having supper, and he came over to see my then 2 y/o son, because he and his wife thought he was adorable. they sat at our table, ate dinner with us, and we just had a really nice conversation. he was one o f the good guys.

Careful now, I think you have your ideologies a bit messed up here. What I would describe as 'liberalism' in the US is a strange mixture of social liberalism and social democracy, which are both center-left ideologies. Radical leftists are typically more along the lines of revolutionary Marxists', which practically do not exist in the US. 'Liberalism' is a much more mild ideology than some would have you think; e.g. It is considered centrist in most European countries.

Sen. Paul Wellstone was and still is my hero. For anyone interested in his life and his stance towards social justice, please do yourself a favor and read his book, "The Conscience of a Liberal." Also, you can view a wonderful speech of his (including q and a) at the Harvard IPO--the title of the event was: "The Unfinished Agenda: Race, Poverty and Gender in America." I saw Wellstone speak agains the "War on Drugs". I asked him about the influence of the Military Industrial Complex on policy making and he said it was huge. In his speach he also talked about internal elites making a huge profit on the drug trade. I should have known he was bound to be assesinated but is hard to imagine events around you will be history when you are part of them
