  • Bet they had one hell of a fish fry after that

  • I knew I should not have had cooky's beans!

  • The veesel is way too close to the explosions, it should move WELL clear, I wouldnt be surprised if the azi thruster or CPP seals were shagged soon after that job

  • How deep ?

  • sooo wtf is that..?

  • shapecharge (seen from the side) " V " makes the blast in this case go up right?

  • Jesus..

  • how deep are those charges?

  • I get that the wells are capped off with cement but from what I know of cement and breakdown under specific conditions, doesn't that mean there is a lifespan on the plug itself? Not trying to pick a fight, but the recent trouble with capping the gulf leak made me wonder how effective the plug would be over the long term. Any idea how long they last or does the demolition process also help to patch the hole in the sea floor?

  • @fetishalchemy Good point.

It sure seems like the common attitude is : "as long as the solutions outlives me...beyond that, I don't care"

I hope that we aren't condemning ourselves with all of these cheap solutions cuz the real expensive solutions might be too late.

  • All of the wells are Plugged and Abandoned prior to any explosive work being done. There is a cement plug in every well that is shot, for those of u in Canada.

The explosives merely cut the piles 15-20' below mud line so they arent a hazard to navigation. We are required by MMS to remove any platforms, wells, etc.... after the lease runs out or dry. Understand?

  • how can it be mud when mud dont go in sea

  • @theprincesscourtney1 umm yes there is

  • During the production of crude oil on offshore there are some tubes which are connected to the reservoir ( gas+oil +water), the pressure and temperature from the reservoir is so high that if things is not done very well this explosion can happen, so in most case this can burn the platform

  • yah, but thats why we use BOP´s (Blow out preventors) which are placed either at the seabed at the beginning of the well, or on the rig itself and the end of the well. Basicly it constitutes of a load of valves.

  • @NZIT1 how prophetic! BP perhaps?

  • Os peixes devem ter ficados MUITO putos

  • personally i think there cheating the fish out of a good catch by blowingthem apart before catching them O.o

  • Can anyone explain in noob terms what exactly is going on in this video..??!

  • They're fishing! ... I believe they are blowing up riser pipes from wellheads far below... That way they will not be a hazard to shipping...

  • @ChopofSlap The old platforms need to be removed. Using C4, to "cut" the legs 15 feet below the seafloor, so they will no longer be a hazard to navigation, or shrimpers, is what you are viewing.

  • @ChopofSlap the legs (jacket) are being cut with REL underwater collar cutting charges. these are a two piece collar type steel ring which is fitted to the bottom of each jacket leg. inside these collars are a shaped charge which cuts them so they topple into the sea. often hydrogen air bags are used to lift the cut legs and float them back to shire for recycling.

  • use comon sence buddy, its not just for cars u gimp, oil and gas is used for other things, the materials in your computer that u write these stupid things is somewhat related to oil and gas,

  • eles estao furando a profundidade pra extrai Petroleo

  • It's oil, not Mako energy, eh?

  • some awsome flashes under the water when they detonate, almost turns the sea a more tropical colour :)

  • If you search the video "A pilots busy day in the gulf" at the 1:20 mark there is fottage from a helicopter that can be heard in the background of this video.

  • CONTAMINATIOOOOOOONNN!!!

  • MUD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I do not understand.

  • holey fuck boys how are you abandening your wells ...blowen em' to fuck?....in canada we just run a bridge plug cement...

  • in australia and new zealand we plug them as well

  • That is also done. They also cut the casing below the mud line to prevent ships and shrimp boats from snagging.

  • what do they mean abondinment , like geting rid of one? or placing one? i just donw know sorry can somone tell me?

  • yeah they blow it up so the well is closed well and it doesnt keep 'bleeding' oil

  • They have to do that otherwise it poses a risk to shipping...you'd complain if they didn't do it and a tanker hit the dam thing...i don't think even a double hulled ship could withstand that

  • Awsome man

  • why are people worrying about a little oil comming out???

for a start, oil is a natural substance.

the sea CAN break it down in small quantities. its just that people have tanker disasters and stuff like that stuck in their minds.

  • in deed natural? come and drink it!

  • mud and dirt ar natural but you dont see me trying to drink that so that made no sence bud

  • and then when mother nature sends hurricanes and other calamities to....we ask how she could do such a thing....as if it wasn't justified on her part

  • more money than brains

  • They have to remove the old, non producing wells, and that is what was happening.

  • why? why not just abandon it as is?

and secondly....that black stuff that comes out...is that....oil?

what precautions do you have in place in case of like...an oil spill or something....cuz you know green peace ain't gonna be happy if there wasn't SOME precaution or the other!

  • Don't be afraid, the black thing you see coming up is only mud. AS the piles have do be cut some feet under the seabed the explosive charges inside the piles are placed deeper than the mud at the outside. The explosion generate a 1° tremendous shockwave that cut the steel but 2° also after a few milliseconds a gas bubble that rapidely expands inside the surrending mud which is then coming up to the surface with the ascending bubble.

  • :)

    thanks for the detailed explanation....

always great to learn from knowledgeable people.

  • hmmmm....

or maybe the comic book people read it from wherever he did?

  • @johnkimble2007 They arn't doing it for fun. Unlike the military in Iraq. Maybe you should comment something like "no wonder this war isn't over" on a video of a soldier throwing a puppy off a cliff.

  • It looks like there getting the rid of the redundant wells. Part of the de-commisioning of a rig.

  • what happened there ?

  • like to know more about this clip
