  • ...I like it! ...my kind of bridge...

  • Not crazy at all. It was a cheaper way to get road and rail traffic over a river when built back in the late1800's and early 1900's

  • Loved listening to that DBR's GMV8 start to growl as the Loco engineer notched her up as she cleared the Road/rail bridge. The DBR was built for branch lines with lighter PSI rails. they were rebuilds of the original DB class EMD loco's and the traction motors were wired in series. They gave you a kick in the back when notching up.

  • anyone got link to the photo talked about in video description?

  • I love how the driver throttles up at the end of the bridge :)

  • I cross this bridge every day as I live on the south side of the Taramakau river and not once in the 25 years I have lived there has there been an accident with the train. The only accidents that have occured on the bridge are from two wheeled vehicles (they're wheels get caught in the tracks) and campervans....because the people behind the wheel can't drive for shit.

  • @juddabar82 hahahah

  • @juddabar82 I'm looking for the train schedule, but don't see it. I live in Murchison and would like to see the train cross this bridge, as every time I've been over there it's just vehicle traffic. You know when the train crosses?

  • @rchuso Its not running at the moment as the dairy season has finished. It carries milk solids from Hokitika to Greymouth. Should resume in a few months, twice daily around 7am and 6pm :)

  • There's nothing dangerous about it. The problem is most people don't know how to drive properly around trains and that trains have the right of way. I see the madness at level crossings - people starting to cross before the lights and bells stop etc.

  • it's not a krazy bridge at all ;), it simply meld's two forms of transport onto the same bridge, while cost cutting at the same time :P

  • There is also a bridge of the same design in the Bay Of Plenty near Taneatua but the line is not in use anymore.

  • The diesel sounds like an 071 Irish Rail/Northern Ireland Railways GM engine.

  • The loco is a DBR class, which funnily enough has the same model of engine (EMD 645) as the 071 class - the only difference is DBR has 8 cyl, 071 has 12 cyl.

  • I drove across that bridge on the way to Hokitika. After crossing the bridge, I drove like 2 km and the train was coming northbound. I remember a similar bridge on one of my NZ vacations.

  • i bet the driver of that truck had a stain in his pants after that

  • that is just so awesome, maybe i should suggest to the rotorua council that they install one like that here for my entertainment.

    good vid.

  • Very dangerous. It does not create a marked crossing safety.

    似乎沒有設置平交道安全標示,挺危險的!

  • Actually, it is marked, but well behind the camera
