The first time I heard of Icarus Witch I was reading a metal magazine (I think Decibel) and I saw an ad for the "Roses On White Lace" EP and I was like, "That can't be a reference to the Alice Cooper song." But it was.
Covers are C-O-V-E-R-S! They're not meant to be carbon copies of the original. They are a band's take on a song that they love. Icarus Witch is an incredible band and this is a great C-O-V-E-R!
There is nothing wrong with this cover. In fact I think its pretty damn cool. Death metal with it's bellowing vocals just sucks. Any fool can do that. It takes talent to sing actual notes with pitch. This guitarist " Steve Pollick" is incredible. He is now in a prog metal band called Order Of Nine. And this bass player "Jason Myers" is one of the best bassists in metal music. Icarus Witch is very cool.
@Stratonini As a singer who sings actual notes and cannot do metal vocals that well, I can say you're gravely mistaken. Singing notes is easy business. Metal vocals are tough.
@sataninacan I sing actual notes and Metal music. The point I'm making is that growling/bellowing doesn't require talent, Singing does. DIO sang Metal Music and had pitch, as does Biff Byford of Saxon and Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden and many others that sing a similar type of Metal. That type of Metal takes talent. Death Metal does not. That why Pantera did more of the growling bellowing vocals when Phil Anselmo lost his range and voice. I think you may be gravely mistaken.
i like how he starts the song in a slower timeing then the original it really solidafies their faggotry. possably the worst attempt at power metal vocals iv ever heard
Too Iron Maidenish i guess. i prefer the Alice Cooper one. These guys are alright i guess, but i think they could use their own sound instead of Iron Maiden's
@killingthemslowly i think icarus witch is unique. theyre not ripping maiden off whatsoever. if you think so, what would you think of the michael kiske era of helloween? they all have their own styles.
musically awesome but a little too hairband on the vocals

One more thing, IF you like Trad Metal, try Widow
,Jex Thoth (both U.S.) Bullet , Enforcer (both Swedish)
All this bands have a distinctive approach to Trad Metal / Heavy Metal though all them are
excellent
motiff8u8 2 years ago
This doesn't sound like Iron Maiden at all
Its darker, sounds more recent and the vocals
are completely different.
However I do like Icarus Witch and find 'em quite
original as far as Heavy Metal bands go.
motiff8u8 2 years ago
It's more trad metal then heavy metal, which is a fairly new style. You should also take a look at Wolf, White Wizard and Destroy Destroy Destroy.
Seabhac14 2 years ago 2
I don't know White Wizard, the others play frequently in my stereo.
Thanks for the recommendation but Traditional Metal is nothing more nothing less than the Heavy Metal I've heard all my life... That's the real Metal,
do not confuse with hair metal/glam rock.
Now that one of Traditional Metal being a new style really got me in stitches...
motiff8u8 2 years ago
why would trad be a new style? trad means traditional...as in the old style.

Listen to the live Toronto bootleg of this track by Alice Cooper, the keyboards fit better then improvised guitar segments.
