  • even with mud in the barrel, it won't banana peel like that. they proved it on Mythbusters. They hammered, then welded a steel spike in a shotgun barrel which is a lot thinner and it still wouldn't slpit. it just shot the spike out.

  • obstruction in the barrel

  • What was he loading it with, forks?!

  • Should have removed the bore sight just before he shot that second round...

  • That's one extreme muzzle brake

  • But never the less he still would have dropped a load in his pants

  • He's lucky thats all that happened was the end split could have been worse

  • Let hear it for Remington Quality Control!! YEAH LMAO have owned several Remingtons over the years, and the new ones are GARBAGE!! I won't touch another one until they fire their whole QC team and start over.

  • @lukethibodaux I've had a R. 700 for almost 2 decades. Have never had a problem such as a jammed cartridge. Puts meat on the table every time.

  • someone stuck their finger in the end, Ive seen it happen lots of times on bugs bunny cartoons.

  • Look the only time that stuff happens is if there is something still in the barrel this guy didn't check to see if he was useing the right built if you look closely you can see something was stuck at the end of it, and split it two ways to heaven

  • well that just changed my mind about buying that rifle... i will stick to ol' reliable ( rem. 700)

  • Remington sucks

  • that fella didn't check that if the barrel was clear!!!

  • The idiot obviously had a muzzle sight in and forgot to take it out. Fortunately the gun is a POS so it was a cheap lesson.

  • Just trim the barrel down down and recrown it and it will be good as new! Carbine!

  • The guy should have known that you cant shoot a rock out of the barrel.

  • Squibs must SUCK... too bad the novice shooter didn't notice, if it was factory ammo it should be covered under some kind of warranty, if he was using handloads then it looks like hes out a cheap 770 LOL it'll still shoot... just won't be very accurate ;) HAHA

  • Was he firing cheap ammo ?

  • hmm my kid has one in 243 and we always use the remington core locked ammo never had a problem and the thing actualy is fairly acurate , i know its cheap but we have no complaints.

  • this is why u dont hunt wabbits

  • I'm no CSI. I don't even watch any of the shows. But....here goes. Kid shot the first ever shot from a centerfire rifle in his life. Muzzle blast and recoil scared the shit out of him and he dropped the rifle. Like any rifle leaving your hands/arms it fell muzzle down first and hit the soil of the ground. Being inexperienced he picked up the rifle, cycled the bolt, then cleaned his rifle barrel for the first and last time using 50,000+PSI. Hey PSI...CSI...coincidence?

  • i think that beginners model remington is a .243 not a .270. thats the only remignton i know for under $400 with the scope. guy behind the counter probably had no clue what he was doing.

  • I find it amazing that myth busters could not bust a barrel even when the end was welded: all they got was a bulge. I think is certainly a design fault here

  • @nicksynnz the 12 guage shotgun mythbusters used fires a relatively low pressure round, .270 is a high pressure round with a bullet not shot like the 12 guage. thats why theirs didn't blow up completely like this one.

  • @MrXl250 :) I must remember not to get anything lodged in the barrel of my .270. Thanks

  • He got dirt in the barrel and it split.

  • Thats what he gets for not getting a R700, Browning, Tikka, or a Savage. Everyone knows the 770 sucks man.

  • i have 2 of these 770 270's and ive never had a problem they are really great rifles for deer huntin

  • Another fine example of the vaunted quality of the Remington 770-a pos if I ever ssaw(or sold)one. He could have had an obstruction in the barrel. It's hard to say since I wasn't there. But the fact is is that the Remington 770 suffers from quality issues and is one the worst quality rifles that Remington has ever manufactured.

  • This happens every time they let Bugs Bunny on the firing line.

  • I'm sure this is an isolated incident. Remington is a fine company, with a tried and true name. Even their low end firearms are solid. There is no doubt an explaination for this and I seriously doubt it is a faulty barrel, is put my money on operator error ( something obstructing the barrel) or an ammunition problem. To yell out "LAWSUIT!" is to join the side of those who want to see you without a gun at all. I'm sure remington made good on this mishap, their fault or not. Hope noone was hurt.

  • Looks like wrong ammo to me.

  • did u find out what made it happen and by the looks of it the barrel would mak a good gun rest

  • That dont happen unless there is something stuck in the barrel, maybe a bad reload and the first bullet got stuck.

  • Someone didn't check the bore for a stick or some mud

  • If it's from a Discount shop, it's Made in China

  • law suit......

  • If their was a fult during the manufacturing process, i would tell that guy who bought the gun to go back and kick the manufactures ass and the salesmans ass for selling a crappy gun. That really sucks, but i guess anything can happen.

  • Comment removed

  • If the bullet leaves the gun correctly, even if the gun is crap, the barrel will not split like that. It may split if there is some crack in the metal, but not that drastically. Something was in the barrel of that gun.

  • What was in the barrel? Did he buy the wrong ammo.

  • saw that shit behind the split and your good to go jk but he deffinetly fucked something up

  • Barrel obstruction. Simply buy a new barrel and be more careful next time.

  • Looks like exactly what you would want to happen with a barrel obstruction, probably saved his life.

  • You get what you pay for.

  • TO much words ahh

  • Unscrew barrel, sell for scrap. Buy new barrel, torque on, go out shooting. Have a good day.

  • I don't believe it has nothing to do with the quality of the weapon unless it was made in china, he made a mistake somewhere but was provably to embarrassed to say what. Didn't you asked him what happened? Hellooooo! It might prevent someone else from making the same mistake.

  • reguardless if whis fault it is, these rifles are pretty much the lower quality line of remington

  • I've seen something like this happen before I was at Gun range shooting my 300 Mag, and this guy put lazer boresighter in gun barrel... he walk out put target up came back to bench forgetting that boresighter was in barrel and, BOOOOM! Part of the bolt came out of gun blew guy cheek off knocked him out COLD! he wasn't dead! ruined a nice Pre 64 winchester 70... this looks almost same as what happen to this gun....end barrel split in half over stupidy...some people just don't belong guns .....

  • mud in the barrel

  • b.s. got a 770 there ok not bad for the money

  • the guy probably put the barrel on concrete or a hard surface and pulled the trigger

  • Little duch tape should do the trick

  • I've never had a problem with mine. It looks like he got mud in the barrel and brushed it out to cover it up. Or he used the wrong sized ammo (such as .280 ammo in a .270), or the first round never left the barrel.

  • @LeftAwakeOnLive pause at 1:39 its 270 win

  • Sounds to me like the first round was a squib load.

(Just the primer went off with no power or very little power)

Pushed the slug part way down the barrel, but didn't exit.

The next round went off and the barrel pressure was exceeded past the limit.

I've had this happen with a hand gun before, but luckily I realized it before pulling the trigger again.

  • CUT OF THE END OF THE BARREL!

  • i'll wager the first round never left the barrel , something up the barrel stop the first one , next on impact total blockage and the pressure curve did the rest. look at it where it shows the bore neat the end of the barrel and the expansion thats happened there ..

  • there is no way in hell that could happen unlees the bullet got sstuck in the barrel and he shout another one and maby that would happen

  • In mother Russia bullets shoot gun.

  • Probably set the muzzle on the ground, and so dirt go stuck in the barrel

  • how can this happend to a new hunting rifle or is it a sniper? i thing most it's a hunting rifle how many bullets did you shoot befor that happend

  • I would almost bet he fired shot one and wasn't on paper so tried to bore sight it and left it in.

  • I believe this to be part of a disinformation campaign run by anti-gun organizations. They (CNBC) recently attacked the Remington 700 for firing when the safety is turned off or when the bolt is closed. Sure it will if you adjust the trigger pull down to zero. Anyone who would do that is a idiot.

I agree with fatefinger above: This rifle barrel was deliberately blocked before firing!

Now they can say: "We need to protect people from these dangerous guns". Cont'd...

  • @BuickDoc Another thought I had: is there a lawsuit against Remington alleging their guns are unsafe? I would not disbelieve that a trial lawyer would plant such "failures" to prove his case in public before the jury is selected.

I am just trying to think who would profit from this campaign, gun control groups, or lawyers.

  • Some stupid asshole had a bore obstruction. . .either mud or a bullet squib load or cleaning jag, patch, etc. This is why stupid assholes shouldnt own guns, they are a danger to themselves and everyone around them.

  • He most definitely did not check the bore, it could have been rusty or other wise obstructed.

Why would anyone drop a round into an un-inspected weapon?

  • No way a barrel burst like that even if it was bad from the get go. Dude clearly had a bore obstruction or using the wrong ammo. I think it was the bore sight like others have said. I hope that dumb ass had the sense to cut his losses and leave firearms to those of us with an IQ over 25.

  • Comment removed

  • It's pretty clear there was an obstruction in the barrel and I'm betting the person did not bother to clean the rifle prior to heading out the range. My understanding is the 770's come out of the box with some pretty heavy grease in them. This is not the rifle's fault, it's the buyers fault. I've never bought a pistol or rifle and not cleaned it well before shooting it the first time. I'll bet the manual even states that as in RTFM!

  • I have seen something like that before. new gun with a split barrel after the first view shots. Mostly the user didnt cleaned the barrel, so grease or oil is left all over the rifeling of the barrel. after the second or third shot, the stuff is blocking the path of the projectile and forces it to expand into the material of the barrel.

So, we see, right after safety first comes cleaning cleaning cleaning.

  • I bet he left a bore sight in barrel I've seen them do the exact same thing

  • Probably an error of the shooter, however not a very good product,

  • Bet you dollars to doughnuts that he took it from the store, directly to the range and fired it without giving it a proper cleaning first. When most firearm leave the factory, they have an excessive amount of oil in the barrel - more than enough to cause enough overpressure when fired to rupture the barrel.

  • Made in China?

  • Most likely obstruction in barrel or accidentally chambering .30 caliber cartridge that had a casing size similar to .270.

If you run into a tree with your truck you shouldn't blame the resulting damage on poor quality bumpers.

  • This isnt even a bad rifle? Thats his fault, I find the rifle to be pretty accurate.

  • thats what you get for buying "Discount"

  • there was something in the end of the barrel. no question.

  • @joeshmoe12301230 Yep,this guy does not clean or check his rifles before shooting.

  • Probably a lase bore sight was left in the barrel. Saw that happen with an AR15 a few months ago with similar results at the rifle range in my town.

  • I think he should have cleaned this gun before using it

  • Tape your barrel in the field or condom it.

    Now! How da

    Fuk u do dat?

  • Shooter was an idiot any rifle could do this if you leave something in the end of the barrel. Or his first shot was his own ammo and he forgot the powder. Primer only will cause a bullet to not go all the way through a barrel.

  • Silly question, are the barrels of guns manufactured with a pre-set rupture line? In other words, if a barrel is over-pressured, is there a built in fault that make the barrel crack open instead of fragment. There is another video out there with a title "Gun Explodes" that has almost the same type of barrel rupture. Another question, I thought the chamber of a rifle also has a built in weak point to rupture early? Myth or Reality? Thanks!

  • That's a text book example of the how you can damage your muzzle if you don't clean from the breach

  • Was the guy shooting from the gun or at the gun?

  • I'm afraid to shoot because of seeing these things, What are the chances of this happening ? I wanna buy an M1 Garand and take it to the range. But seeing this stuff scares the shit out of me

  • @TigertailzBezerk This is complete crap..There is no way for this to happen unless there is an obstruction in the barrel..Dont let this scare you..He installed a bore sight to sight in his scope and forgot to remove it prior to inserting a round for the first shot.Go get that M1..FINE weapon. You wont regret it.

  • @runninonempiy Thanks i'm GLAD to hear that, Going to go M1 shopping this week :D

  • This is what we Dutch call: made of urinal steel......

  • Total BS and intended to suggest the rifle has a problem. See the pressure marks inside the barrel at the muzzle? Someone should tell the jackass who shot it to pull the boresight out before pulling the trigger. No gun is idiot proof.

  • @joe4570

my thoughts exactly. looks like the kid was was selling a bs story to cover his mistake. that looked like a failure to remove the bore site issue. if you leave the bore site in any gun you will split your barrel. i have have put over 2000 rounds through my 700 in .308 and it is still going strong.

  • FMJ .. :/

  • This is what happens when you dont clean your gun , Ive had a model 770 for 4 years now and its never done that

  • And this is the reason i only buy Finnish rifles(SAKO, TIKKA, VALMET), you couldn't get a SAKO to do that even if you tried.

  • @baldurus1 because Colt, Remington, and Winchester are known to be so unreliable... really? The brands you just mentioned may as well be "Kia's" in a world of BMWs, Cadillacs, and Lexus. Not that they aren't good weapons... but c'mon, man... better than Remington? ...maker of one of the most successful sniper rifles... the 700? Please...

  • @lancebaker155 I'm sure they are Cadillacs, inferior and ureliable.

Finnish rifles are more like an Audi or Volkswagen, not the sexiest in town but you sure as hell won't break them and they do the job better than anything else.

  • @baldurus1 yeah, the remington rifles are the worst, i mean theyve only been beheading terrorists for 50 years from vietnam to korea to muslimland right?

if army and marines still use em after 50 years they must be a total piece of shit.

    youre a dickwad

  • @Mirind0R Say, how did you do in Vietnam with your Remingtons? And what about Korea?

Desert storm? Bay of pigs? Afghanistan I? Afghanistan II? Iraq? You're still taking a beating in Afghanistan and Iraq from a fistful of ill-equipped bush fighters. You guys haven't won a war ever.

  • @baldurus1 im italian and i couldnt give a shit about US loosing or winning. i own a rem 700 and its an awesome gun, that always performed great in all theaters of war in the past 50 years and ive no complaints on it.

you have no firearm experience, go watch some COD videos.

    out

  • @Mirind0R No firearm experience, thats funny. I served for 6 years in the légion étrangère(French foreign legion). How about you?

Go suck on your mommas tit little boy.

  • @baldurus1 you didnt serve in shit faggot-i on the other hand own several weapons as PROVEN by my videos.

i already suck on your momas clit, so no need for that.

  • @Mirind0R The only thing your videos prove is that you're a little boy who spends his time playing video games. And thats about as close as a pussy like you will ever get to the field.

  • @baldurus1 you mustve watched the wrong ones fuckwit.

also noone'0s buyinfg that legion etrangere bullshit.

its old, its gay, and it never happened.

go back to call of duty and keep your weapons ignorant bullshit to yourself, you filthy cowshagger

  • @baldurus1 Last I checked, and I served in the Marines, we won every engagement in Vietnam, but lost the war due to unpopularity with the people, Korea was fought to a standstill AFTER Chinese involvement, Desert Storm was won in 6 weeks as we had ran the Iraqis out of Kuwait, Iraq is pretty much secure and has been for over a year now, and Afghanistan is on its way. However the main problem isn't our rifles, it's the Improvised Explosive Devices aka IEDs that are killing us.

  • @jkwynn87 Correction, before I get corrected by fucktards, we won Desert Storm in about 6 months. But anyways, before you say some ignorant shit you might want to do your research. And yes I didn't include Bay of Pigs, mainly because that was a fucking retarded operation, involving Cuban refugees who sought asylum in the U.S. I really cannot count that as a military operation because our military wasn't truly involved. But hey, if you want I'll give it to you, Bay of Pigs was a horrible decision

  • @baldurus1 Love my Tikka T3 Light...

  • That's a new patent design. That is so your hunting partner doesn't need a shooting stick. Very ingenious ! !

  • Just wonder if he had put a cleaning patch through the barrel to remove the any oil left by the manufacturer before he fired off?

I once saw a really nice old Churchill shotgun split on a driven pheasant shoot because the owner hadn’t removed the cleaning oil left in the barrel after the shotgun had been at a gunsmith for servicing.

  • @gm6hgw yeah right, a coat of oil will blow up your weapon..

ive never EVER removed cleaning oil before shooting ANY weapon.

worst case scenario that first shot is a little off.

  • he probly used reloaded rounds and the first one might have been just a primer he was probly also wearing earplugs so he would not have heard the the lack of BANG!

  • That would only happen if there was some kind of obstruction. You're not telling the whole story.

  • @fatefinger My guess is the first round never made it out of the barrel.

  • @fatefinger You can tell at 1:02 something expanded drastically maybe 2 inches from the muzzle, he probably managed to double feed or used the wrong freakin ammunition.

  • He likely used a laser bore sighter after the first shot and forgot to take it out.

  • send it back to Remington they will replace it.

  • Stucking fupid ha lol

  • perhaps it was faulty ammo. what i mean is the bullet from 1st shot actually became fouled in the barrel if he was shooting remington ammo, ive seen it happen, i love remington rifles but their ammo is junk. more than likely user error though

  • Its just a flesh wound. Nothing a little duct tape can't fix!!!

  • Saw it off and keep shooting

  • I would guess he didnt know what kind of caliber to use..plain and simple...even if you have the same caliber...have the head to be longer or stouter could be devastating ..thumbs up if u agree

  • A pipe cutter will fix that!

  • The 770's barrel is made of the same Carbon Steel that all the other higher end 700's, 750's, and 7600's are made of (except the Alaskan which is made of 416 Stainless Steel).

  • If you're going to go fishing, use a rod and reel.

  • Nice music... near the barrel split

  • I would bet my next paycheck that between shots 1 & 2, something either got left in the barrel (ie. the shooter was cleaning between shots and the jag came unscrewed and stayed at the end of the barrel) or the gun was set down barrel first in some mud. The pics clearly show a bulge right in the middle of the separation, which indicates an obstruction. I hope the gun shop didn't take it back because that's just plain user error.

  • @maverick340100 I agree and wondered the same things. yes the 770 is bottom line, mine is a 7mm rem mag, after about 140 rounds the bolt runs quite nice. I have no problems with it, and for the price it isnt too bad a rifle, but then again, I treat my rifles like royalty. That being said, my Savage .22 is in the shop because the bolt was terribly machined, after 200 rounds it was "grinding out". So I would make an allowance for poor QA work at the manufacturer in my case and this guys...

  • @maverick340100 I was thinking something along the same lines, though perhaps he dropped it after the first shot. The .270 has a little bit of a kick to it, and it might be too much for a new shooter the very first time.

  • @maverick340100 Agreed!

  • @maverick340100 Seems to happen a lot when someone shoots a 22-250 bullet in a 30-06. What a dumb ass.

  • @maverick340100 Not saying you're wrong, but you're saying that you don't believe him. To you, this is a random person, random condition, random rifle. By leaving your comment, you are saying that you cannot believe that this could ever happen with the knowledge you have. That seems pretty ignorant on your part. Maybe something crazy did happen but you are betting your credibility 100% on the fact that it didn't. I don't know about you, but I haven't seen a lot of things that are really 100%.

  • @blakeaustintusn To me, gun safety isn't random. You seem to be saying I don't care. If I didn't care, I wouldn't have posted. The barrel in the picture looks exactly like the one my cousin blew up when we were teens. He dropped it and the barrel became obstructed. He didn't check the bore before he fired it and the barrel blew out. When we take a dangerous situation like this and blame it on a cheap gun or "something crazy" we perpetuate dangerous behavior.

  • maybe its not the gun but someone that didnt know what they was doing.

  • I always thought that rifle looked shitty, heres the reason why.

  • will thats funny . i got the same gun shot about 20 time . no trouble .

  • Should of bought the 700 and not this crap

  • i have a remington 270 and the only prob i have with it is i eject a shell and the new one jams up in the magazine as it goes in the barrel

  • FUBAR

  • Dust in The Wind!

  • he was probably shooting reloads and the first round stuck in the barrel, from what i can see, this is a typical barrel obstruction case.

  • @zer009e I'd agree, when he said second round I was thinking: I smell a squib load

  • damn smh

  • That's a classic barrel obstruction split.

  • I'm pretty sure that the 770 doesn't come chambered in .270 . Might have been modded

  • @TeckDuder It does, I was just looking at one on GunBroker.c om. Now I feel like I need to do more research before buying one.

  • New type of flash hider?

  • remington 700 770 are common to do this

  • saw the barrel at at the split sawed of sniper

  • gay enough music?

  • Ahh, that's the new widemouth .270

  • Squib load.

  • Nothing a hacksaw willnt fix

  • @codyjameswriston Never buy a gun that the barrel is split down the middle. .lol.......just kidding.

  • i woul of change my shorts then took it in

  • have the same gun and shot it over 50 times and never had a problem..had to have been something he done because it wouldnt just explode like that

  • squib

  • MmmMMMmmmm...I think you got to change the barrel!!!

  • i have the same rifle. do you think that will happen to mine

  • @mmgerard5 Unless you ram something down the barrel, leave a bore sighter in (like I'm positive that kid did in the video), or shove 6 inches of it into the mud, no, it will not happen.

  • reason #352 not to get a freakin 770!

  • Remington really need to stop making those barrels out of hardend liquorice.

  • @RTARMS thats funny cause remington has those scopes already boresighted out of the box for your use lol

  • bad day

  • That is why you always clean a gun when you first get it, you never know what is in the barrel.

  • i bought mine about a month ago and already shot 60 rounds and not problem, it is def. a great gun and at a great price, i agree there isnt no way it just blew up

  • Looks like the first round was a squib and he didn't know what that meant...

  • hm this looks like he had something blocking the muzzle, dirt or sth.

a gun is unlikely goin to blow up by itself:D
