I would of loved to sail on one of those great ships with their Beauty, Luxury and big sized ships from 30,000 tons to 83,673 tons or something like that cause those ships to me are proper ships with their old fashioned hulls, bows and sterns and their smokestacks, superstructure and luxury just sounds perfect for me I'm 20 years old now but i would like to sail on a ship like these ones such as Olympic (Sister of Titanic), Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth etc and many others
@ChrisVaughn85 yup, same here but i am for making a working replica of the fabled French Liner SS Ile de France. Modern tech (diesel-electric) but same beautiful interiors as the original.
The days of classic ocean liners are gone. Even todays ships, even though bigger, are only a shadow of the once great liners. I prefer to sail on a ship where I know I'm actually on a voyage.... not some mega ship that reminds me I'm at a shopping mall back home.
Hello Aaron1912. What a wonderful suprise to hear theatre organ music on this video. My all time favorite instrument. The British Wurlitzers were voiced slightly different from their American counterparts and that is what made them unique. The tradition is being carried on by many fine English organists such as Simon Gledhill, Richard Hills, etc. Thanks again.
That final shot at 3:02 symbolizes something, the eventual domination of transportation by aircraft. A metallic, new aircraft flying above a stained (cannot think of the correct term) Queen Elizabeth.
I had a dream the other night that I was on Aquitania. I could see wood panelling, the furniture, and carpets. At dinner, I was at a table with a woman and man from Spain. I remember distinctly holding on to the interior wood railing down the corridor in rough seas. If only those liner days could return.
modern cruise ships and ocean liners look horrible these days, the designers only concentrated on cramming as much stuff into the ships as possible, the older ships looked sooooo much nicer, although i've always disliked the look of all the Cunard ships, they all look too bulky
AAron 1912 I went to sea in 1952 and we were still building some of the finest ships in the world. When they still looked like ships not the floating casino/brothels called "cruise ships" of today.Great music, isn't it?Thank you for the posting.
check up the coastal expressvessel Nordstjernen, many clips of her here on youtube. she is a real good oldie, what is even better she still sail her original route!
what are cruise ships? Just floating fun parks...nothing special. They don't have the pleasure and the respect of an ocean liner... so bad that only one is active in present...maybe in the future, when we will have huge eco-friendly electric engines this era will be reborn.
I would have liked to see what it was like to live during the golden age of ocean travel, and be caught up in the hysteria of the Queen Mary or SS Normandie, I think that would be wonderful
absolutelly marvelous!!fantastic!!!Im a sailor, and I have been studying ocean liners since I was a child, I loved this video. goes directly to my favourites, It maked me cry, is touching for me , I love it, great job, what is the music? take care
I think Queen Mary 2 is what the industry would refer to as a 'multi-purpose' vessel. Whilst being built primarily for the express service to New York and North America in the winter season (April to November) it can also be easily transferred over to cruise service (i.e. ex-UK roundtrip, Northern Europe, Carribean etc...) for the rest of the year with minimal fuss.
I kno why we dont see ships like this no more...only hideous floating boxes. unfortunatly these graceful old designs just didnt have enough passenger room to pay for the HUGE amounts of oil they burned...like SS United States @ 600 tons a day OMG. I was blessed enough to have been on that and both Queens when I was little ...I remember it like yesterday ... its real sad theyre gone :( PLEASE HELP SAVE THE SS UNITED STATES ITS NOT TOO LATE!!!! much info on line
I think a shipping line such as "Carnivals Cunard" would make a lot of money if they designed a modern ship to look like an older vessel. Sure they would be completely up to date regarding technology but, an "older" looking Liner would probably be very popular.
I HATE the single-back funnel of the modern Queens!

I would love to know WHERE you get this fantastic footage from of all the old favouirtes, particularly of the Queens Mary and Elizabeth passing each other in mid-Atlantic. Would like to see more film of the old Queen Elizabeth though - there's not enough of it.
Great video. A few days ago we saw in Sydney Queen Elizabeth II visiting for the last time before being turned into a hotel in Florida, and Queen Victoria - the latest Cunard maxi-ship cross each other under our Harbout Bridge. Lots of hooting and waving at sunset. Quite a spectacle! Thanks for posting.
My apologies, it was an honest mistake. You are quite right, it is in Dubai of course. Thank you for correcting me. As an adendum, I did not intend to LIE. Hmpf, bad mood?
I just absolutely love ships and trains.Travelling through airports has become so tedious and tiring. Thanks so much for these incredible videos from the past. They mean an enormous amount to me and many other people I am certain.
Thank you so much for showing this. I travelled on the Mauretania2 when I was a boy. Also the SS America and the Maasdam in about 1955. The liners have always meant so much to me.
ethanstein. Unfortunately I don't have videos of them, just wonderful memories. The world lost a wonderful form of travel when the liners stopped ( It must have been terrible in the engine rooms though).I fanatically love anything to do with these fantastic ships.
really wish I was born early enough to be around at the time of these great ocean liners!

Adding to LedZepp's list of the plusses of ocean liners vs. airliners:
5. You're treated like royalty rather than cattle or cargo.

this is how people should travel, there are so many benifets over planes:
1. no jet lag
2. u have a comfortable cabn with a bed, not an uncomfortable seat
3. sure it takes a few days but its enjoyable
4. these are far more safer than planes
these are just a few . there is so many more points.
