Celebraties do adopt a lot of alternative "medicines", extreme diets, religious & other superstitious beliefs, and they have a profound influence on the public. People do turn to pseudoscience & quackery and lend it more credit than established science. I mean, just look at you, you're against vaccinations; yet they have, on average, a 95% effectiveness that lasts more than a decade.

I still believe in a lot of science since I have followed it for 2 decades. But I can see how Climate Change, Big Farma and the Food buisniss has made many people sceptical to all science and that is a shame because there is a lot of good and usefull studies out there.

Common sense is contrary to observation and understanding. If I tell someone to look both ways before they cross the street because a car may hit them, and the person understands that if they are hit they will likely be injured, and they don't want to be injured, then they have a scientific understanding of why they should look first. They understand the logical reason.
The common sense equivalent is to not offer an explanation and expect them to do it because everyone else does it.
While common sense may occasionally parallel good decisions, it is as irrelevant as the fact that you could correctly guess an unknown variable in an equation without doing any calculation. It is only an accidental quality that is no substitute for solid reasoning.
And even calling it common sense is misleading. Do you poll your neighborhood on their viewpoints before making a claim about something, or is it just your perception about what is common or should be common "sense"?
If I went into a kindergarten class and asked questions about the earth and the sun, I would bet that the local "common sense" of the classroom would be that the smaller sun goes around the earth, because it is unlikely that any of them understand how gravity works, or the scale of our solar system.
Similarly, if I were to poll a random group of people at a store about the importance of vaccines, it's unlikely that "common sense" would correlate with scientific facts. Common sense is worthless.

Celebraties do adopt a lot of alternative "medicines", extreme diets, religious & other superstitious beliefs, and they have a profound influence on the public. People do turn to pseudoscience & quackery and lend it more credit than established science. I was watching an "alternative" video about Roswell, yah I know, major double-entendre there-some of the Army and Air Force officials that have "come clean" since then purport that the "Roswell visitors" are actually us, from the future. If this is so, it is possible that the "powers that be" are either pushing agendas to spur human evolution, or to deter/stop it cold. I think the answer will become clear by 2012, they have made their end-date known world wide.

I still believe in a lot of science since I have followed it for 2 decades. But I can see how Climate Change, Big Farma and the Food buisniss has made many people sceptical to all science and that is a shame because there is a lot of good and usefull studies out there.
When more people wake up to the global warming scam we're going to all have a long talk about how science should be funded, organized, debated and reacted to by politicians. We can't loose objective scientific studies.

Common sense is contrary to observation and understanding. If I tell someone to look both ways before they cross the street because a car may hit them, and the person understands that if they are hit they will likely be injured, and they don't want to be injured, then they have a scientific understanding of why they should look first. They understand the logical reason.
The common sense equivalent is to not offer an explanation and expect them to do it because everyone else does it.

While common sense may occasionally parallel good decisions, it is as irrelevant as the fact that you could correctly guess an unknown variable in an equation without doing any calculation. It is only an accidental quality that is no substitute for solid reasoning.
And even calling it common sense is misleading. Do you poll your neighborhood on their viewpoints before making a claim about something, or is it just your perception about what is common or should be common "sense"?

If I went into a kindergarten class and asked questions about the earth and the sun, I would bet that the local "common sense" of the classroom would be that the smaller sun goes around the earth, because it is unlikely that any of them understand how gravity works, or the scale of our solar system.
Similarly, if I were to poll a random group of people at a store about the importance of vaccines, it's unlikely that "common sense" would correlate with scientific facts. Common sense is worthless.

The long run damage you talked about in vaccines is yet to be confirmed in PROPER scientific form, yet the benefits that they have in routing out diseases have been confirmed beyond all doubt. When you talk about misinformation try to at least come with examples that are CONFIRMED facts.

That's VERY bad practice!. What you want is equal amounts of both, or if anything less autistic children, because they represent a smaller ratio in the general public!.

Really strange video. What Simon Singh is saying is that we need to listen to the scientists, and we should.
As for "common sense", no, in science there is no place for common sense. Take light, for example. Light is both a particle and a waveform at the same time. Common sense tells us that cannot be so. And yet, it is.
I love your videos on conspiracy matters. But please, leave the science to scientists. Opinions on the matter, like these, are just embarrassing.

@sugarcanegray What? I think that common sense and critical thinking go together. After watching Dr Tenpenny's three hour video about her research into vaccines and hundreds of hours of doing my own research, I've concluded that vaccine manufacturers are biased due to profits, etc. Same thing with GMOs, pesticides, chemical fertilizers, microwaves, etc. Also common sense will tell me that I cannot run a particle accelerator with a specialized education, but I can still think for myself:)

This is why we need to listen to scientists on scientific matters, not media outlets, mainstream or otherwise, nor corporations and nor the government.

@Rockguitarnow Too True, I'm probably going to try The Paleo Diet soon (like this week). I avoid most processed foods because they contain questionable ingredients or hidden ingredients. It's getting to the point where even certain organic processed food is being called into question. The MSG issue is freaking me out, food producers can now hide it under 20 different names, it's getting ridiculous. People should not be afraid to step into a supermarket.

It's not a war on science it's a war of 'pure scientists' against more updated 'less pure' investigative science. There's less and less freedom to make your own claims.
That is a shift towards what I'd call state determinism/ governmental determinism.
It's the trend of policy behaviour to reduce authonomy and promote the pascification of the masses (i.e. domestication).
Well just check what all those words mean, then check what you see around you, report back, we'll have a blast.

We are all waking up, over and over again to everything, more and more new things.
The next aeon/age is coming, Aquarius the age of the destroyer shall bring an age of future and truth. However if we look to the history of the worlds each age that went before was destroyed by the next that followed. The last time this was done was by the Christian crusaders who butchered everyone that was intelligent i.e. teachers, scientists, doctors etc. Thus taking the people back to a primitive state. ?????

Now that the economy is in the dumps, I think that the majority of persons receiving this years vaccines will be public school children where schools threaten them with expulsion unless they are injected with these toxins. I finally got the folks off the free annual flu shot.

@nanino09 In reality, it's next to impossible to do that, they tried that with the swine flu when they released it in Mexico, but it didn't work. They failed to realize that viruses can evolve rather rapidly in weeks or months into something more or less virulent, usually less virulent. The Spanish Flu that killed 50 million only killed 2% of the world's population. The Spanish Flu was more successful because people didn't have access to clean food & practiced good hygiene. Today it's different

I agree with the bulk of your video, and people waking up etc. but this "end times" stuff is really over the top. Christians have talked about the end times for years and years and years and the sad thing is (as in Richard Dawkins' book "The God Delusion") that since over half of North America is Christian and awaiting the rapture, sadly, even IF it were to come, chances are (if there was a religious govt in place), nobody would do anything to stop it... at least the Christians...
