  • i love your hair. you are very pretty! keep up the good vids.:)

  • I'm going back to relaxers next week I was natural for 8 months it just wasn't for me I miss my long flowing hair lol good vid

  • Relaxed or natural.

    We are beautiful.

    Great video.

I am going back to relaxed too.

    Natural was fun.

  • ur videos r very entertaining and not boring and i see u have natural beauty

  • I recently went back to the relaxer and got a pixie cut after 25.5 months natural. Neways girl love ya hair n do whateva works for u. Happy to hear ur hair is still thriving!!

  • LOVE your personality ! lol ! your hair looks great ! i went natural and I cant take it anymore! So today I'm getting a relaxer. lol

  • I am sooooo glad someone posted this cause I AM TIREEEDDD of all my friends saying I'm trying to be white because I'm tired of being natural, and telling me i'm gonna go bald and i'm not representing who I really am by wanting to get a relaxer. I DO NOT like the natural look on me, is that a crime???!!! lol,

  • @yettycinder No its not. It's just hair. Hair should fit your lifestyle.

  • @yettycinder no its not your just honest. Tell them to worry about their own hair.

  • Very pretty, and it looks healthy and bouncy!

  • @YoungNMarried You better leave that beautiful head of hair alone girl!!! LOL!!! Break out the flat iron if you want straight hair but if you love your natural hair stick with it!! Oh and congrats on your little one mama <3

  • I didn't look at your video but thank you for your comments about doing what "I" want with my head. The negativity that comes from some (not all) natural sisters is ludicrous. I had a relaxer from 1988 to 2006 and my hair was thick and long. Never the breakage many mention. Since it was so healthy, I decided to try the natural and not only is it damaged, it's been short every since. I've given it 5 good years, now back to the real. I'm so good with it. Thanks again!

  • girl when i first went natural ma ahir was growing like 2 inches a week. but after 3 years of being natural ma hair anut nuting but a big nappy dry mess. im definitely about to start a relaxed hair journey!!

  • The first relaxer after having relaxed hair always looks good. It's because the hair was healthy from being natural. I think you look better natural and could have straightened your hair with roller sets on a regular basis with no damage, but to each his own. Just remember to work hard so it won't start to break off.

  • @411blah411 All of my relaxers since have been just as great! I appreciate you saying that I look better natural but I have never worn my natural hair on YouTube. If you're speaking of in this video thats not how my natural hair looks. It had crinkle and wave in it from me taking down the sew in and it was dirty. I tried rollersets, it dosent get my hair straight as I prefer it- even with relaxed hair while im stretching it dosent so for my lifestyle the relaxer was DEFINITELY the best choice.

  • I'm currently natural with highlights but I made the decision to relaxe my hair but I was wondering if you can have relaxed hair over my highlights. Will it make my highlighted hair fall out or do I have cut my hair and start all over again?

  • @LilacStar82 No you dont have to cut it off. You can have relaxed hair and colored hair. If you look at my hair at the beginning of this video I had a lot of golden blonde and brown hair on my ends. I didnt cut it I just put a rinse over it because I wanted black hair. As long as you are not doing the color and relaxer at the same time you should be ok. Just make sure that your colored hair is in a healthy state before you get a relaxer. Hope this helps!!!

  • Woah, your hair is beautiful . Hahaha <3

  • has anyone ever told you you look kinda like an older kiki palmer with your relaxed hair? well at least to me anyway.

  • @Momiji101 Yes!!! LOL!!! My friend Chimere tells me that all the time.

  • I'm glad I came across this video. It made me realize that the hair on my head is MINE! I've been natural for severl years and it has grown to the middle of my back :) However, when I want to wear it straight, I pretty mich have to clear my schedule for about 6 hours and I'm really tired of going through so much with my hair. Even when I was relaxing my hair, it was long and VERY healthy...I'm going back to relaxed in 2 weeks and I can't wait :) Good luck to all the ladies natural or relaxed.

  • @Tink2127

Me too. I've been natural for 5yrs and I want to do something different. When I'm sick of relaxers I'll go back to natural. Afterall, It's only hair.

  • @Mocharain A few friends of mine said that I shouldn't relax my hair because it won't be as healthy and blah, blah, blah. Truthfully, EVERYBODY can have long, healthy hair, but it's just a matter of putting in the work to take care of it. I don't believe in the natural -vs- relaxed batle because I think all hait is beautiful. Be it kinky, curly, wavy, straight or bald as a baby's butt! We, as women, should uplift each other not tear each other down just because of our hair beliefs :)

  • This was me a couple months ago. I don't regret my decision to relax none whatsoever. Thanks for sharing.

  • This a dam shame you got 25 punk ass haters. you should be able to do whatever you want with your hair. I have wore my hair natural for many years and it takes alot of patience to deal with.do your thang girl and godbless you sweetheart and to those 25 haters F&*Ck you! get a life.

  • I love to see videos like this. People that's doing what they want with THEIR HAIR! I swear some people try to go down your throat like it's their hair and not yours! Do you. I'm natural and I might just end up getting a relaxer or just straighten it more often.

  • Hello, I am a natural lady I havent had a relaxer in a while, honestly I love my natural hair and i dont plan on changing it. But i RESPECT your decision. Loose natural hair is very difficult to take care of! Between washing, DC'ing, Detangling, etc. it takes me a long time to do my hair! All my best friends are relaxed and they have careers so going natural for them isn't going to fit well into their lifestyle! So its refreshing to see a woman do what SHE WANTS to her hair! :0)

  • @jferrel88 Thank you!!! I really appreciate that! My hat off to you too being the only natural among your relaxed friends. I love hearing stories like that! Just because it means you are comfortable with making decisons for yourself and not for what everybody else feels is best for you :)

  • Sucha tease with your permed hair lol

Imiss my permed hair ! Ionly been natural for almost 5 months.

But iCongrate you Women do yah thang . I support both =)

  • @iiPersonality LOL!!!! Im sorry! I was just feeling myself a little :) Good luck on your natural journey !!!

  • @GucciGyrl1229 Lol I understand Im going natural for length awaiting my bang's to grow out

  • Its nice to see a video going from natural to relaxed instead of the other way around. Me myself I'm still going back and forth weather i should stay relaxed or go natural...

  • @NusaybahBintKa3b I agree. I've been getting a texturizer on and off since I been natural.

  • i love that you don't judge people for being natural or relaxed. some naturals take other people's relaxed hair way too serious. it's their choice and they don't understand that, just like you said!

  • In the title you mention healthy relaxed hair and sweetheart I am here to tell you there is no such thing. Chemical relaxers break the individual bonds in each strand of hair forcing them straight. Healthy hair that is naturally curly has good elasticity and with a relaxer your hair lays flat...I try and try to understand why people want to relax there hair but I just cant come up with anything...its sooo unhealthy for it. Shouldnt you strive for a healthy body and lifestyle in every way?

  • guapa!!!

  • Thanks so much for this! All these videos about transitioning from relaxed to natural but nothing about the other way around! I've been natural for 5 years and my hair is becoming quite a chore. I want to go to relaxed but I'm afraid that I'll have the same problems with dryness and breakage like I did in my teens. BUT...I feel like I know my hair a lot better now and will be smarter in how I treat my hair once it's relaxed. Thanks for posting this! Your hair looks cute by the way!

  • i relaxed my natural hair about seven weeks ago and i hated it until i ran a cross this ,i watched 100's of vid's and this one was the only one that made me feel good about my relaxed hair,i was going to cut it off today:)thanks much.

  • Gone, girl. Your hair looks good. I really like the fullness and body of your hair. I dancing with you. LOL!!!

  • addicted to the creamy crack! lmao

  • i read your description box and we think alike. I was natural for some time, when i was relaxed, my hair grew like crazy, but i didnt know how to care for it thr right way neither, going natural taught me alot about my hair. Now that im relaxed i can now grow my hair past shoulder length. My goal is past bra strap length.

  • I like natural hair but I like your results to!

  • i hate breakage im growing my natural hair back, u cant wear braids with relaxed hair learned that the hard way and i miss my long curly hair

  • @FireBallThePony Some people can't wear braids because its just too much tension on their hair. But I am relaxed and I have braids in my hair right now. I wear sew ins and my hair is braided underneath. I also wore braids throughout the majority of my transition. There are tons and tons of relaxed ladies that use braids as a protective style. I'm sorry that it broke your hair off :( Good luck on your natural hair journey!!

  • Comment removed

  • @NaturallyBeautiful18 Sometimes people with relaxed hair use weave as a protective style if they are stretching their relaxer or simply to switch it up and have versitility. But to be fair if you ask this question to relaxed people you have to pose the same question to naturals. Why would you do the big chop and then put relaxed looking hair in your head? Its all about having the option to switch it up if you want to.

  • your hair is beautiful!!!!

  • been natural for 6 years. I'm over it now LOL. going to get a relaxer in a couple of weeks.

  • @monilove5 Isn't that the great thing about embracing change? You can do what you want and be cool with it! Good luck on your new hair journey!!

  • @GucciGyrl1229 I agree I was natural for a lil bit but i decided I wanna grow long relaxed hair. Im glad to know that I tried something different and I truly know what works best for me now.

  • @GucciGyrl1229 Also like you said hair is just hair.

It covers the scalp thats what's important as well as the health of it whether natural or relaxed.

  • @monilove5 i just did after 5yrs and im loving it, it looks good im happy

  • @happy6075 All my friends were begging me not to do it, and they're all Asians (Koreans, Japanese, and Chinese). They said that my my natural made me look exotic.LOL!

  • i'm going to relax my hair as well. I am soooo tired of trying to detangle my hair whew...

  • @shsu97 Its definately a job I know! I hated that part of washing my hair. Good luck on your new hair journey :)

  • i broke down to and relaxed my hair afte 9 months, but now im going back to natural OH BOY lol

  • @123agent101 Hey thats the beauty of hair! You can do whatever you want with it and if you start feeling something else then hey roll with it right?! Good luck on your transition :)

  • It's all about choosing :) You do what you will.. But I just saw your videos with relaxed hair and stumbled on this one... You sur elook good with relaxed hair... but there was that little something about you and your natural look... I just can't tell what it is. :)

  • @VyNaturally Awww thank you :)

  • Your great lmaoo (:

I have just past the shoulders hair & i really want to get it relaxed

    & love your dancing (: <3

  • @b0rn2danc3 LOL!!!!! Thanks!!!

  • I just found this video and I have been looking for a video about this topic! I am natural; however, I did not hate my relaxed hair or relaxers, I just wanted to try being natural. I am seriously consdering going back to relaxers because I liked my hair that way a little better than how I feel about my hair right now. Thanks for posting this video!

  • Wow I went natural for the same reason, but I think I am about ready to switch back! After ur vids I am not going to feel guilty at all! What relaxer do you use?

  • @jessica32789 Hey! I use the Affirm relaxer for now. If I alternate its between this and Dudley...Both are great IMO. Good luck on your new hair journey!!

  • I too went from relaxed to natural (been natural for one year now) and I miss my perm too! I just did a video on why I think I'll be going back to the relaxer. I can tell you're happy with your results~

  • it looks gooood

  • I just did the same thing....I had an overwhelming feeling of guilt for wanting to relax my hair...but I finally did it 3 days ago. It looked so thin compared to natural hair but I can now feel air on my scalp pheeew! I workout 5 days a week so I had to wash my hair frequently. I loooove the natural look, but i just could not appreciate the shrinkage on me. Overall, I am happy either way. Healthy hair can be achieved either way.

  • I'm going natural, but at the end of the day it's a matter of preference. It's not horrible to be relaxed. You have the right to do what you want. My hair is my favorite accessory. I held off going natural for a while cuz I wanted to play around with some straight styles. We all have the right to change it up how we want to ;-). The important thing is that you're confident in who you are. More power to ya!

  • @kilico40 I feel that my hair is an accessory too!! I couldnt have said it better. BTW I adore your profile picture!!

  • @GucciGyrl1229 Thanks :-)!!

  • i havent relaxed my hair since winter and now its summer and i dont know if i should go natural or stay relaxed plus i had colour in my hair and my stylist said i had to cut off my whole hair to go natural i dont know what to do to i dont like the idea of chemicals in my hair especially how i'm only 16

  • @pixiegirl13 1st you dont have to cut off all of your hair to go natural unless all of your hair is color treated. If it is you can wait until you have enough new growth to do the big chop. Also You can just grow it out like I did but most people that have went natural will tell you that it is better that you do the big chop instead of transitioning. Before you do all of that you should decide on what you want for your hair. I know you mentioned that you are 16, do you take care of your own hair

  • @pixiegirl13 or do you go to the shop? Ask yourself why do you want relaxed hair /natural hair? These decisons you should make on your own and also with your Mom if possible. If you dont like chemicals in your hair then natural may be the way for you. Your natural hair may turn out to be beautiful and the best choice for you. If you do go natural the beauty of it is its texture so try to stay away from so much heat to straighten it because that can be as damaging as the chemicals.Good Luck!

  • @GucciGyrl1229 yea i do take care of my hair. i straighten my hair every month or so and watch my hair twice a month...i am so not ready for the big chop lol i've been permed for a year now all my life i was natural and my friends tell me i look better with straight hair. and all i did when i was natural was tight my hair up all the time or my mom plaits but now since we moved she doesnt have time so perming should be better for me and maybe when im older i might go natural :) thanks you

  • @GucciGyrl1229 I dont think it is right for you to tell this young lady that her hair May Look Beautiful if it is in its natural state. It is the way God made her, of course she will be beautiful. Every person is entitled to their choice, but you are shadowing that statement with a negative tone. Young lady, anything that is natural & in the light of God will FLOURISH. I cut all my hair off & went natural & it has been the most fulfilling feeling. Been natural 7 months now. Love it!!!

  • @kimsincharge Please dont twist my words because there was nothing negative about what I said. The reason why I made the statement the way that I did is because she is asking ME for advice and thats not my place to tell someone what to do one way or another. I made the statement with those words to show that I am not biased one way or the other, Obviously you havent watched any of my follow up videos speaking on negativity or you wouldnt have assumed that.

  • @GucciGyrl1229 I actually saw your follow up videos first and respected the way you didnt make it all about the negativity and started on another topic of what your currently doing. None of us should judge another but I think the words you chose were biased because you changed your hair journey. I understand she was speaking to YOU but YOU know what THEY say opinons are like " " everybodys got one. Just thought I'd interject my natursl view..... : ) ........

  • @kimsincharge I was thinking the same thing about opinions as a matter of fact. I think you are looking into my comment for something thats not there. Not at one time did I suggest that she relaxes. If anything I encouraged her to go natural but I still did not interject any of my emotions into that statement one way or the other. What words were biased? Because I said your natural hair may turn out to be beautiful?? I was saying why not go natural who knows you may just like it?

  • @kimsincharge But anywho this is taking up too much energy on something that was taken out of context. You have your opinions and if you dont like what I have to say you are always free to not watch :)

  • Me too, I went back to relaxed. New journey. ;)

  • i luv it gyal work it!

  • @xsobbingx Thanks!!

  • Hi im going back to relaxing hair & i know i wont regret a thing what so ever!!!

what i wanted to know...is should i go to a salon and get my hair permed?

  • @Kikki239 Hey! I would definitely go to a professional to get it done. If you don't have a salon in mind ask around first. Ask someone who has healthy relaxed hair who takes care of their hair. Or look at a hair book in a beauty supply and find someone who specializes in healthy hair. Good luck and let me know how it turns out. :)

  • Heyya!

    LOVE the vid!

Quick question, what product did you use to dye the tips of your hair? And did it damage your hair?

    Thanks!

    Kima x

  • @KimaOnline Heyyy!! When I colored them she just used a black rinse and I sat under a hooded dryer for about 15 minutes. They poke back out sometimes when my rinse wears off but its not as bright. I dont think it damaged my hair at all. Since it was semi permanent it wasnt as strong and whenever I get a rinse I make sure that I am moisturizing and sealing daily or more if needed. HTH!!!

  • @GucciGyrl1229 Thanks loads ! That so helpful, but Im a abit confused.. I thought a rinse couldn't make somebody's hair lighter :S So obvioously in your case a rinse lightened your hair? Xox

  • @KimaOnline Oh no, it dodnt make my hair lighter! I thought you meant what did I use to dye the tips black!! LOL!! My bad. The color on my ends was from last January when I dyed my hair brown with highllights. At the time my hair was natural so it was the only chemical that I put on my hair and it didnt damage it. I just had to make sure to keep it moisturized but I would never put any permanent color on my relaxed hair. For me its either or. I hope this helps :)

  • @GucciGyrl1229 Ohhhh okay... I was thinking of relaxing my hair then dying it. I reeally really want to get it medium/light brown. So then highlights are the same thing as permanent dyes? Because I was thinking instead of dying the whole thing with a permanent dye, I would just use highlights to colour it. Or are both the same thing? Thanks a bajil! Xox

  • @KimaOnline I would suggest doing one or the other. If you get highlights they are still more than likely using a bleach of some sort or developer to lighten it and that is a very strong process. I would suggest to color it first see how your hair does with it after a couple of months once you know that your hair is ok I would relax it. A lot of people say relax then color. If it was me I would relax then find something not so harsh to color it- like maybe henna or something like that. HTH!

  • I liked this video and thanks for the tips :]

  • @chriselliott90 Awww thanks hunny!! Im glad you liked it :)

  • Thank you for this encouraging video. I am going back to the relaxer after 6+ yrs of being natural. What treatment did you use before relaxing?

  • @Mahogany2000 Heyyyyy!!! I used the Keracare Restorative Mask, Perfect Results Deep Penetrating Conditioner and I mixed in some coconut, evoo, evco and jbco. Basically anything nurishing and moisturizing in a concoction. After your relaxer make sure you give yourself a protein treatment followed by a deep moisturizing conditioner to strengthen your hair. I did mine the week after I relaxed. HTH!!

  • Natural hair is key straight is eurocentric and thats not ignorant.

  • You're beautiful either way. I have thought about going back...sigh...I just don't know what to do with the crunchy straw that's currently on top of my head...

  • @Banksparty4 Thanks honey!!! LOL @ straw!!! But girl im stretching so my hair look like straw right now too!!! LOL

  • STRAIGHT ATEYAAA LOL

  • Bout time somebody does what they want with their own head.

  • lol...pop an egg in it...lol...you are crazy, beautiful hair, beautiful person!!

  • @longhairgetinthere LOL!!!! Girl I was thinking of anything that I heard in the past about healthy hair home remedies!! Thanks for the compliments:)

  • my hair is natural but i want it relaxed and looking how good yours came out im deffo getting it relaxed...

  • hey what relaxer did you use cause your hair looks soo nice and straight and full of life :)

  • There really is no such thing as healthy relaxed hair.

  • And who gave u that info?

  • @AnnaSmee why not? theres no such thing as natural hair either, unless you dont put any heat at all on it, dont colour it and dont use shampoos and conditioners with chemicals in it... people do all those things all the time that dont wear relaxers and claim to be natural. so whats the difference between one person putting a relaxer in and another person colouring it?

  • @ExotiqBeautii shampoos and conditions don't drastically and permanently change the molecular structure of the hair. chemicals are chemicals, but when you compare relaxers to a dye or shampoo, you are really comparing apples to oranges.

  • @ratdance well ive none (from experience) that hair dyes can be just as bad as relaxers. people tend to over process their hair using them, so its just as damaging. if you leave a strand of hair in a relaxer or a batch of hair dye, they have the same outcome; the hair disintegrates. and about the whole shampoo thing, i wasnt saying it damages your hair or anything, im saying at the end of the day, you're using chemicals in your hair so you're not "natural" as most say.

  • @ExotiqBeautii lol you getting all types of technical huh?

  • @LoveyLocks hahaha- its all love

  • thank you for your tips...im bout played out on the micros but they are really good at making me keep my hands outta my head...im startin to think i might just wanna stay natural...it grows on you LITERALLY!

  • Your so welcome :) The micros do get old until you see somebody with some fresh crispy braids and then you change your mind!! Thats what kept happening to me. Good luck on your journey and remember to moisturize that hair!! HHG

  • It's your hair, your choice...do hair with no regrets either way. I've been natural for a little over a year now. I've gone back and fourth since I was 17. Now at 30 I may never go back but hey I might...never know.

  • Your hair looks lovely!! You house is nice looking too haha xxx

  • LOL!!! Thanks boo!!!!

  • i think ur hair is bomb! i was relaxed for years and just started braiding my hair and turned natural not on purpose lol. but i8 do miss my relaxers. somuch easier for me. my hair is very corse and all. so combing and tryuing to keep it tamed is a full time job .lord. lol but congrerats... as long as ur hair is healthy mami.

  • Origionally i decided togo natural, because i got a bad relaxer from a friend. All my hair fell out because i didnt no how to take care of it.Thanx to the natural ladies on youtube i do now,and ive been 3year natural. My hair is so freakin long now,it grew so fast.I decided i wanna texurize then go get a half inch cut off.Your video was the only video that i could relate to.Natural hair is so beautiful but my life is starting to go way to fast.Ill plolly relax the roots every 8months.Thanx again.

  • Oooh girl I bet your hair is beautiful!!! Im glad you could relate to my vid :) I hope you have a great healthy hair journey!!!

  • your rockin that relaxed hair!! obv the natural was nice and healthy too but so what! lol the relaxed looks cute !

  • @ipswichgirl05 Thanks sweets!!!

  • HEEEY : ( do u know how many black girls want that full thick hair u had b4 with the great hairline and unique afro look?? y do all that work to have the amazing hair u had (and it defo was beautiful) to relax it n loose that beautiful body it had before... : ( just chop it off... go ooon do it =P!

  • @YayFlannigan..Last I checked it wasnt my responsiblity to carry the weight of everybodys wants on my shoulders. If thats the case what about homeless people who want my bed, my home and my food? Or is worrying about a hairline more important? My hair is still amazing with beautiful body. Y do all that work u ask? Because its what I wanted to do. And how crazy do you sound saying for me to chop it off?! Why in the hell would I do that? Yeah thanks but no thanks.

  • alright love calm down it was a compliment im not saying u have to be a hero im just saying it looked nice b4 n i wasnt being serious n being rude about ur new hair style (as u can see by the smiley at the end) and hus talking about homeless ppl? ohhh i get it yh coz its so much easier to help the world wen ur hair is straight T____T

  • @YayFlannigan Was it a compliment? Cause it didnt feel like one. My point was not about saving the world sweetie. My point was and is that I have to do me. If I worried about what other people wanted and based my decisions on what they wanted then I wouldnt be true to myself. I made the comment about homeless people just to make an example.

  • loooool ok ok life is to short for this. the point was ur hair looked beautiful before and im a natural girl so im gona think it looks better but ur straight hair is also lovely & in great condition. i didn't wanna offend u hun, sorry if it looked that way x

  • lol@2:44 I am natural and I still ROCK that style. lol!

  • @honeyhued08 LOL!!!! I bet you rocki it out too!!!

  • @lss121576 what r u using to deep condition? healthy hair means keep moisture in the hair at every step of the regimen (shampoo/co-wash, dc, styling and everyday moisture). i swear on evco and evoo dc

  • I love evco, evoo and I sometimes add a little of my Jamaican Black Castor oil too.

  • yeah i'm a little late lol u relaxed already but i'm about to cut my relaxed ends after not having relaxers for a year, and i DEFFFFinitely appreciate the honesty

  • i love your hair what happend to the color... did they cut it off any who i had relaxed hair and i went natural but it sooooo hard to take care of natural hair always with the moisture and the big fro im trying so hard not to go back to relaxers but like u said u can keep your hair healthy with it relaxed ill give it another 6 months but after that IDK... anywho love that u can out and shared what others are thinking despite the neg comments ...

  • Thank you girl! I needed to hear that because let me tell you the negative comments have been coming. I just put a jet black rinse over my color. I know how you feel about the moisture in natural hair. My hair used to get really dry but once I took a look at certain ingredients in products it got a little better. The Hydratherma Natural Line helped me out alot when I was natural- I love that stuff.

  • what was ur hair regimen when you were natural?

  • Hey! When I was natural I had a very simple regimen but it worked for me. I used the Hydratherma Naturals line and it made my hair soft. I purchased a set that had basically everything that you needed. I would blow dry my hair and flat iron it every week with a ionic blow dryer and tourmaline flat iron. When I wasnt doing that I had it up in micros. I also found a beautician that was in to healthy hair so when I didnt feel like doing it I went to her. I did bantu knots alot too.

  • @GucciGyrl1229 oh!!!!! the blow drying and the flat ironing is what messed up your ends(did you use a heat protectant(, and the relaxer will make the situation worse.

i am natural, and all i use is aohsr as a co-wash, dc with evco and evoo and twist with my shea/aloe/evco/castor mix. i also use giovanni 50:50 hydrating balancing conditioner as a leave-in. only had a relaxer for five years. i haven't blowdried or flat-iorned my hair in well over two years.

  • blow drying & flat ironing wasnt the best but I dont think thats what messed me up honestly. I used a heat protectant and I blow dried on a cool setting but that flat iron was cranked up!!! LOL!!! That was actually the time that my hair got back healthy -when I went natural. I did that to get it healthy enough for a relaxer. Bad habits and not caring about the health of my hair is what really messed me up. I was flat ironing and relaxing too often. I was addicted to heat!! But not anymore.

  • @GucciGyrl1229 i used to work as a chemist in formulations for hair products and i used to flat iron my iron almost ever 2 weeks, and i can tell you that the constant heat def is part of the prob. in fact, a light blow dry for me is like a press, so imagine all the trauma i put my hair through when i added the flat ironing. i encourage all in obtaining healthy hair, either way, but the relaxer, in my expert opinion, should not have been the answer for your hair. keep us updated!!

  • I didnt go to a relaxer to get healthy hair. I went NATURAL to get my hair back to a healthy state and get rid of the bad things that I had done to my hair when I was relaxed before. After years of being natural I felt that I had a better understanding of what healthy hair means to me and what I need to do to get and keep healthy hair. I also felt that my hair was healthy enough for a relaxer.

  • ok. keep us updated with the success in your hair journey.

  • Thank you.....I'm getting my hair relaxed next week..I've been natural for 4 years..... I really miss the relaxer. I actually feel I'm able to take care of relaxed hair now that i've learnt so much from the hair boards & youtube.

    thx

  • For most of last year I didnt have any heat on my hair because I had it up in braids or sew-ins. Also different hair and textures react differently to different things. Me blow drying and flat-ironing my natural hair once a week didnt cause a lot of damage. Of course no heat would have been better but I kept it to a minimum.

  • i mean if i chose too but im pretty sur imma be natural 4life........anyway do you girl!

  • im not gna lie i WAS a natural nazi relaxers are eviiillllll why sistah why!!!!!!!type chick. but i had a convo with myself(yeah im crazylol) and i realized hold up its just hair for me i know theres no such thing as good hair i knw natural hair is beautiful i knw it doesnt make me no less of a beautiful black woman thats why i feel comfortable relaxin again

  • Do you reccommend Aphogee products..im thinking about trying the brand in between relaxers or salon visits..

  • I love the entire line except for the shampoo because it has sulfates in it. But the 2 min reconstructor and the green tea leave in and the balancing moisturizer are really good.

  • WEll i just went back to relaxing..and its not something i regret at all..i love my hair either way, but i see my self going back to the natural in a few yrs thou..so i guess im just trying this and that :)

  • Thats what I am talking about!! Experiment, try different things- if it dosent work do something else....At the end of the day its just hair :) Im sure you look fab either way~

  • @Lboogiefan08 thats exactly how i feel as well. im gonna go natural again. i was 4 and a half months natural and got a relaxer cuz i couldn't take it but when i get in college i'll go natural again.

  • i dont think relaxing the hair will not make it healthier

  • I didnt say relaxing your hair will make it healthier. I said that you can have healthy relaxed hair.

  • Hey girl. I'm natural right now, but I have a different reason for going natural too. It was mostly about the health of my hair not necessarily to stay natural. at this point i love being natural but i never hated being relaxed so it is possible that one day, i may goo back. ppl should not be so up tight about what others decided to do with their hair. I am going to look into the connection between relaxers and cancer though. Anyway, do you girl!

  • Hey!!! Thats how I felt too! I didnt go natural to make a statement or to prove anything, I did it for the health of my hair. HHG

  • Thanks boo! HHG!

  • instead of wastin ur money on products that r full of wax& car engine fluid to make ur hair feel good and look good in the mean while ur organ tissueand brain cell r getting damage. best condition is ole skool that grandma use Mayo& olive oil or avacoda,1tsp bakesoda, olive oil, natural and yogurt. The reason y natural people go back lye is they just dont know how to take care of it. And the take the lazy way out.

  • You are entitled to YOUR opinion but like I said this is my choice. And I dont understand how you feel that getting a relaxer is taking the easy way out,. Quite frankly my relaxed hair requires more effort and upkeep than my natural hair did,

  • please don't listen to other ppl. I'm natural right now and i swear all the hoopla around hair is soo silly. You wear your hair how u feel pretty. And your gorgeous already s whatever u decide will enhance that. Glad your eating better and healthy again

  • Thank you :) I dont get it either. I am so glad that you commented because its important for relaxed people to see that not all natural people think that relaxers are the devil!! LOL

  • lol r u for real? cause if thats the case I'll keep my natural. I was gonna perm so it wouldnt take me 50 hours to do this natural stuff but if permed is gonna take a lot of time to do too i dont know by the way u look beautiful with ur perm i just wish we all could do our hair in 5 mins whether we had a perm or not ya know

  • Girl! If we could do our hair in 5 min that would be the bomb! I think with permed or natural its going to take a little time because you want it right. But for me the relaxer allows me to get the look I want faster and without all the heat from the blow dryer, pressing comb and flat iron.

  • do u know 80% of hair products r brought by blk women. And 80% die of cancer. the chemical that u put in ur hair goes in ur blood and get trap in ur liver and builds up. and cause health. if u knew that over time of chemical use what it does for ur health.U wud have a lil different. to each itsown, but my health is more important than my hair being straighten. i have been a hairstylist over 10yrs..and i loved my relaxer. but i study hair and chemicals.and blk women health.

  • What my research says is that there is no direct link to cancer and relaxers. There were many allegations stating that relaxers cause breast cancer specifically but studies show that women who use relaxers multipke times in a year for 20+ years has the same risk of cancer as those who didnt. See if you believe something you will find truth in it. By talking about this you are beating a dead horse. There are people that smoke cigarettes for a lifetime and never have a trace of lung cancer

  • and then there are people who have never smoked with lung cancer. There are men with breast cancer. My choice to relax my hair has no reflection on how I feel about my health. So thank you for your comments but please believe and understand that before I chose to relax I did research of my own for years and I still stand behind my decison.

  • thats the same thing im doing ...(just going natural until i grow my hair out) any tips or product recommendations while in the growth stage?

  • What helped me a lot was sew-ins and micro braids because I didnt have to manipulate my hair so much. It kept the heat off my hair. Also I used the entire Hydratherma Naturals line. It really softened up my hair and made it easier to manage. Carols Daughter has a hair creme called Some of Marguerites Magic and its really really good. I cut my hair in February in a bob and the back was almost shaved so doing the things I mentioned got my hair to where it is in just 7 months.

  • If you can wash your hair in the shower and detangle it under running water before you get out. That should help to. Im not trying to deter you from relaxing but if you started transitioning for a reason then I want to see you reach your goal. But then again if its not working for you then at least you tried it. P.S. When I was natural I used Hydratherma Naturals, Carols Daughter and Keracare and my hair loved it. Good luck on whatever your decision is :)

  • WAIT!!!! LOL!!! Before you put that relaxer in you have to think about why you decided to transition in the first place. If your reason in still valid then dont relax your hair.I know how frustrating the transition process can be especially after being relaxed for so long. But you can do it if thats your goal. If you do decide to relax I would say to get your hair in good condition 1st. Try detangling your hair before you wash and dont pile your hair on top of your head,
