not too sure on my mower but when i start the engine cold, i have to keep priming the ball until it warms up or else it will die,which worked for awhile sorta. But now when i start the engine it runs but very weak and once i touch the grass with the mower it dies. Do u think that screw would do the trick and the same on any lawn mower? Mines Briggs&Stratton?

i used to live in cali, and i didnt give a shit about the emissions laws and shit there. when i got a mower in with bad gas i drained it out and dumped it in my yard. them goverment bitches never got me

@gokartbuyer soi've heard. i did a tear down and put in a performance cam, lifters and valves. can't find stronger springs though....i also ported and polished. :D. she's gunna scream on my go kart. :)

@scbjgs good but i would recommend finding those springs. at high rpms excessive valve float may occur detracting from performance and even may damage your engine. and be sure that you have upgraded your fuel system and exhaust. with mine i built a pipe about a foot and an inch long. just be sure that there is some back-pressure so you don`t wreck your new valves. good luck!

@gokartbuyer i talked to a buddy of mine tonight who used to race karts and they'd modify these 5hp briggs and get around 10horses out of um. :D. h said he might have some springs for me. :D. what do you meanupgrade the fuel system?

@scbjgs racing carb. for all those mods of flow you need a carb to keep up with the added flow into the engine.or you'll starve the cylinder of fuel and damage your engine and it will either run lean and stall on you when you accelerate.

@gokartbuyer 4 strokes dont need backpressure. as long as there is some kind of pipe more than about 6 inches long on there the valves will be fine.

I have the same mower too ! I bought the tune up kit ( air filter, plug, and oil ) got it running , and it dies i'n about 2 minutes , and won't start ... Funny thing is , I REALLY need it to do it's damn job this weekend ,and I had a bad day ... After the 25 pull, I snapped . I picked up my mower over my head and threw it ( like a lunatic ) . Now I have some more fixing to do . If I would have kept my cool , I would have known that there was some contaminant i'n the carb ... Temper temper ; ) c

I have the exact same model and it does the same thing. I cleaned the carb and it ran but didn't want to idle right. I had another mower so I just put the Toro up. I pulled out again today and it fired up and idled. That dang mower is just weird. Honestly though I wish it had a Briggs on the Toro deck than a Tecumseh because tecumseh is known to have carb trouble.

This worked for my Craftsman lawnmower as well. The bolt that gets removed has holes in the top and sides. The top was small so I used the twist tie wire, the side holes were big enough to use a paperclip straightened out.

Hey!! You're a life saver!! I couldn't get my lawnmower to keep running so I typed into youtube search "Lawnmower starts then stops" and your video popped up and I did exactly what you said and within five minutes the problem was solved. But before I found your video I had pulled the starter cord so many times it broke. So maybe I'll down load a video about replacing the pull cord.

I'll try this/that. I just got a used 5.5hp GTS5 toro that will start then die out. You have to keep priming to keep it running. After it gets warm it runs but slow. Thanks for the video.
