  • This is BYYYY FAR one of her best performances other than 1984 MLK Somewhere over the Rainbow (Red Dress) and You'll Never Walk Alone with Mavis, Al and Richard!!!!!

  • this is my favourite patti song

  • I remember sitting in front of the television when this first aired. I liked Patti before I saw this. However, I fell in love with her after this.

  • patti sang the messs out ths and showed some legg too lmaoo

  • i just love me some patti labelle.i remember seeing this show. youtube you missin some in- concert clips.the program use to come on channel 2. maurice from chicago.thank you youtube.

  • The F5 that Patti hits at about 2:26 is phenomenal. Her upper register is very well-developed here....She must have one hell of a technique.

  • beautiful <3 <3 even the BITCH joan rivers was in awe!

  • A true talent!

  • I love that the audience showed her so much love. I think they stopped applauding only because Joan started talking. Irrepressible!

  • I love Joan's patience and timing.

  • WHEN PAT'S EYES ARE SHUT WATCH OUT!!!!

  • @choralman8009 I know :_D Youa re so right!!! Thats when its coming from the outer space!!!

  • She burned that to ashes, for real

  • There is no one like her in the music industry this day and time, if anyone can think of one, than email me, im up for the debate jprue_1012@yahoo.com.if you dont know what it feels like to know the spirit of goodness then you have not heard PATTI LABELLE.And a voice that can lift you up, like you just left church and put all of what you are going thru into perspective.Amen and Thank God for Patti

  • She is always one note away from flight..... PURE JOY.

  • This was from The Tonight Show when Johnny Carson still hosted. Joan Rivers was guest hosting for Johnny the night this aired...one of the greatest live performances of ALL TIME by anyone, man, woman or beast. In her prime Patti was second to NONE in front of an audience. Their reaction says it all!

  • @MissThingSings LMBO Man woman or beast!! I love it!!!!

  • @MissThingSings didn Joan Rivers become like Carton's permanent like second in command though?? It wasnt like she was just a guest, they were partners

  • @moroney1 Yes she did...she was permanent guest host when this aired. Some of Patti's greatest performances ever were on the Tonight show. Johnny adored her, as did Joan. Roberta Flack was scheduled to appear one night and fell sick...she suggested Patti in her place and it was the first time Patti was on with Johnny. He loved her so much he had her on twice that week!

  • @MissThingSings permanent guest is kind of an oxymoron though isnt it?

  • @moroney1 True...I suppose they wanted to distinguish her from those who only had temporary stints in the seat. I've always liked Joan...and she loves her some Patti. Still can't get over this performance and that ovation. Patti was at her peak and there was nobody better when it came to live performances. The absolute best!

  • What is the name of the show this was performed on?

  • @kdrayf01 Looks like from The Tonight Show when Joan Rivers was the guest host, because I think that's Ed McMann sitting to Patti's far right.

  • sing it girl!!

  • That is fucking amazing.

  • Brilliant, just brilliant.

  • She is simply Amazing, her voice is heaven sent.

    I have enjoyed her Then< Now< ALWAYS!!!

  • She was all up and thru that. FABULOUS

  • No one can scream like Patty

  • Her hair!!!! ^_^

  • haha that was joan rivers

  • those notes around 0:34 - 0:38 ware effing low.. it's a shame she doesn't maximize her low register to the fullest

  • My God Patti go way down deep and bring it up from your soul @2:25...Patti be feelin that thing...Siiiinnnnnnggg Patti!!!! Whew!!!

  • get ove it bitches this was before PETA!

  • AMEN!

  • LOL at 1:08 !!

  • She is the best

  • She kicked the CRAP outta THAT track...whewWEEEE!!!!When Miss thing is on form she can scream the house down!!Fab!!

  • chill out pussycat im sure that fur prolly wasnt even real LOL

  • If Im not mistaken, she just burned a hole thru that song.....water, please!!!

  • SEXXY LEGS!!!

  • Just brilliant. Words can't explain

  • Incredible, absolutely out of this world. I am full of goose pimples, brilliantly brilliant. What can you say to such magnicence. Patti you are my best singer of all time, inquestionable. Henry K. England

  • Brilliant comment

  • i love you patti ...........but i truly hope you dont wear the abomination of FUR any more!!!!!

  • it fake fur. she told me last night

  • kiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

  • Wearing fur is not an abomination, have you ever read the bible at all? It's not a sin if you can afford it!!! I still wear it and I can afford it.

  • what has it got to do with the bible?? you dont think its an abomination to wear the fur thats been ripped from animals alive, as happens to cats and dogs and other unfortunate animals in china?? why should a living thing die so that someone can wear its skin? you have your own skin!!! no.one needs fur nowadays, i dont need to read the bible to know that its immoral to kill something for its fur. you have your opinion...THATS MINE

  • I tell you what, you'll get over it. And if you dont, no one will give a damm...lolol.

  • you think i give a damn what you think???? lolo!

  • hopefully, your dumb ass doesnt...I dont know u from a funky pair of panties that you wore to work last week. So, keep it movin...and LIKE I SAID BEFORE, you'll get over and if you dont NO ONE will give a funky rats ass. Next!!

  • as you dont know me why do you feel the need to be offensive towards me?...you have your opinion, i have mine and i didnt insult you...you started it!!!....next!!!

  • This woman outshines the sun! Truly one of the greatest performances by anyone, anywhere ever! Patti was in her prime, and when she was in her prime there was nobody who could touch her when it came to singing live. As much as I love and respect the other great divas, Patti Labelle is unequaled standing on a stage behind the mic. This is unreal...listen to the audience reaction! Sang, mama, sang!

  • this woman is so amazing, when i first saw her singing this it was live aid 1985, the tears just rolled down my face and the hairs stood up on the back of my neck.......wonderful, unbelievable, god given talent, may she live forever!!!

  • She's so amazing...

  • I love you Patti!

  • PPl kill me when u refer to her vocal positions in a song. Who cares shes a dramatic/outstanding/beautiful/non like her entertainer. No one in the room is no where near her or will eva be and if so post your vids on here and sing. And watch how other will break down your vocal abilities. Over it already. A bunch of note reading NOTS. LMAO!!! She's a PROFESSIONAL MAIN STREAM FOR OVER 40yrs +. Understand it.

  • Patti's emotional investment here makes this is one of the finest performances I've ever seen on YouTube--bar none! The song is so INTENSELY personal to her that it took her a minute to come out of it after she finished! Now THAT is what separates a GREAT singer from a mere good one.

  • i love when she sings this song. the first time i heard her sing this song was when Oprah turned 40. this lady continues to blow me away. i've been a fan since the age of 7 and now i'm 32. if i'm correct, this performance is on the Tonight Show with Joan Rivers hosting...you should've posted that. Joan's reaction to Patti was priceless and geniune. Joan loved her...

  • she has 5 octaves

  • Happy 65th birthday Patti LaBelle!!!!

  • I like your shoes!!!

  • I think she started out as a Mezzo when she was a younger woman. It was just because she used the middle register a lot. I haven't heard too many low notes now at almost 65. Soprano is her signature territory, anyway.

  • You said that her low register is strong. Her low register is actually forced in my opinion. She ain't no Contralto or Mezzo-Soprano.

  • she's a dramatic soprano

  • She should be proud.

  • just AMAZING!

  • she's one of the baddest bitches ever!

  • and please, consider, that generations following Patti's own have embraced the word "b****es" as positive one (esp. in this instance with a SUPERB performance!!!)

  • Dear Santa all i want for x-mas is to be able to sing like miss Labelle, thank you

  • now she is a person that can honestly claim to have...THE VOICE!

  • YES she can, but she is humble and never claim a thing, just keep working those pipes is enough...lol

  • @gretz13

    LOL

  • @gretz13 su voz es simplemente asombrosa...

  • @gretz13 me to. i would love her power and range here

  • x diana cant sing at all didnt you see dreamgirls

  • Go Patti!

  • the stars make you appreciate the singing even more . Joan loves patti labelle till this very day still

  • This version of this song just proves, further, a truth I already knew... That Bob Dylan is the greatest Song Writer since King David himself. Period... the end!!

  • And also that Patti is hands down one of the best vocalist of her generation, and that includes a lot of damn great sangers!

  • This is just great.Patti is fantastic. She makes it look effortless ! If youLove Pattie , You will love Lynn Ritchie . Check her out !

  • nothing against Lynn Ritchie but i dont think she's anything like patti....2 opposits

  • Yeah she does use baby voice in this performance. I always love it when she does that.

  • Guys,

There really is room for more than one great singer. Don't judge Miss Aretha by where she is. You must acknowledge from whence she's come. Aretha Franklin IS one the greatest singers of the 20th century and don't any of you forget that!

  • you make me cry every time with this song patti you are an angel x

  • I second that...DIVA!

  • DIVA

  • Her timing is impeccable. It's soul-driven, pwer-house material. Her prayers are set to music and song. Ladies and Gentlemen...this IS soul!

  • Patti is much better than fat miserable Aretha

  • =]

surprised this hasn't got any negativity

  • The haters need to stop this foolishness... You are the only ones starting shit..aretha and patti are not calling each other up making threats or goin on each other's myspace page and sending mean notes..only people with no life do that shit! PATTI IS MY QUEEN AND ILL OUT SING ANY OF YOU! NOW HOW ABOUT THAT BITCH!

  • her runs are kinda strange at times to times lol 01:10 ...what was that?

  • improvisation.... the key to DIVERSIFIED singing

  • it is here baby voice. she used to use it a lot

  • baby voice, lol

  • i gotta meet this lady before i die! I have yet to see her in concert but i love her depth in all of her music, she's so real!

  • Her style is without a doubt unique.

  • Miss Patti LaBelle - Wonderful disco queen and always forever young. I danced many hot, wonderful nights to the sound of her music.

  • she was great! but her performance of forever young in the concert is much better! .. =)

  • Can someone please post the "forever young" concert video?!!!.The one when she puts the mic down.

Best thing I have seen and heard.Had me in tears.

  • It's on here. type in "Live aid patti labelle"

  • @coolsmoothla3 That is from Live Aid

  • @kdrayf01 no its not, this was the late night talk show Joan Rivers presented in the late 80s

  • This is my song too all my nieces all of them Yvonne, angelica, jaclynne, lorrene and

  • ..one of my all time fav's.!!!!!!!!!!

  • 1:09 LOL Classic Patti Only Patti can get away with somthing like that. LOL

  • AMEN!

  • Pokie.... holla at me......check your messages

  • Ok Enough of everyone saying pattis gonna leave us and she gonna die!Hello shes only 60 what?Damn!STOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I know, some of these comments are trippin'...I don't think there is any legitimate reason for anyone to be meditating on Patti's death...she currently seems pretty vivacious to me.

  • So true. shes my insperation!I remember as a poor, pretty, mexican hillbilly kid watching her on tv and being so scared !!!I'm older and haven't looked back since I completely understand her now,the passion, the heart and soul she feels I just tear up sometimes when I hear her!..Oh and I'm still that poor, pretty, mexican hillbilly! and even gayer than ever!Love ya patti!!!

  • I completely agree.

  • I agree, it makes me sick how they harp on such things.

  • Its true Patti is one in a billion we'll never anyone like her again and its the same with Aretha,Gladys,

Dionne,Tina and Diana todays singers dont match their standards. GOD BLESS THEM ALL

  • those of us who are REAL fans of hers should really rtake note of her talent because when she's gone, there will be NO ONE else quite like her. I dont mean to sound morose, but we all know that Patti is a little older now... my point is that her approach to singing was almost "other-wordly". There are no chicks who sing like that today. She's an 'old school' warrior...a real pro. God Bless her. Fantasia and Beyonce' have both gone to "Patti Univ."

  • I had tears in my eyes reading your response, while it so true, I can't bare the thought of losing Patti. I love this women like a crakhead loves CRACK. She is the ONLY DIVE, the original, DIVA all the DAY!! The Epitome of FIERCE!!

  • Patti ain going no where no time soon; I put that on everything I have. God and I has came to terms with that, he wants her here on Earth, her job ain done yet.

  • Annd patti got her degree from the U of REE!

  • -_-

    and you are??

    you signed who??

    yea ok

  • I am one of millions who saw Ms Labelle fall to her knees in front of President Clinton and Ms Franklin and address HERMAJESTYtheQUEENofSONGandKEEPERofTHEALMIGHTYFIREandMAGICinMUSICMSARETHAFRANKLIN as her "idol"! Nuff said?

  • video?

  • It was on a Kennedy Center international TV broadcast where Ms Labelle was among the MILLIONS saluting Patti's "IDOL", HERMAJESTYTHEQUEEN-LADYSOUL-ARETHAFRANKLIN, for her Kennedy Center Award (the highest award/ honor for an artist in America). PL sang Aretha's classic Ain't No Way before she fell on her knees before the Queen.

PS This song's composer, Bob Dylan (recently became the first musician to win a Pulitzer) wrote a chapter saluting HerMajestyAretha, in his autobiography, Tarantula.

  • Patti sang Carolyn Franklin's exquisite (if only patti could locate such GREAT material for her own lps) Ain't No Way which HERMAJESTY recorded in 1967 on her legendary "Lady Soul" lp. The magnificent Cissy Houston delivered devine stratospheric vocals to shade the Queen's history-making lead.

    Student

    PL couldn't equal her HOLY

Professor of Soul, Gospel, Pop, Funk, Jazz and Blues but she did deliver a nice version, then fell on her knees and praised Queen Aretha as her "IDOL".

  • Now you know some ARETHA or Patti freak must have it on tape.

Diana Ross and Joan Baez have sung this number many years before Patti ever got a hold of it.

Why can't she find more substantial songs like this Dylan classic to record instead of all those 4th rate teen-age hip-hop numbers she fills her very forgettable lps with.

PL has never matched her magical 1st lp, which did have a Dylan song on it.

I was wrecked by those lousy songs Patti chose for her gospel lp. I had such hope for it.

  • The only DIVA!

  • this is done at a time when the singers actually new how to sing and entertain. what happened to these days? at least we still have patti! we all love you patti

  • Thank You Thank you Thank you whoever posted this i had as a favorite for a while but it disapeared I Love this version so much I absolutely love Patti!

  • My Girl... sang Patti

  • straordinary

  • Cool, Patti in the old days, never seen that before, thanks 4 posting!!

  • Nice legs!

  • Are you sure this is '86?

  • Fierce. Absolutely fierce.
