My partner's son has autism, she spent every moment of his 13yrs & now you wouldn't know that he has it. He "They" are more intelligent than you or me...
This really works!!! Most people don't realize that this is the BASIC example. Our therapist started here and took it all the way to learning to play soccer and so on. My son is driving now and has a very normal life.
The only thing I dont like about thus video is that the says " Say" which can cause kidos with issues with Echolalia to say "say" when repeating. Other than that she is doing quite well.
I had to go through this useless and humiliating method in an enrichment program i was in as a preschooler. It was hard and if that wasn't bad enough the teachers took pictures of me during my meltdowns.
This is a decent therapist, but she isn't taking any DATA. Data is a core aspect of ABA. You need to record behaviors following the response. Bad therapists and practices can lead to robotic children, but honestly, you saw a video for almost 2 minutes, for all you know she did teach eating in the natural environment, and this is generalization. You don't know after just 2 minutes.
@Logistica11735 You have a wonderful life and you are blessed. You need to look outside your door at people who have it a lot worse than you, like the women watching their babies starve to death in Africa. I recommend seeing a doctor. Things will get better for you.
@tubemania75 it isn't her, it's how ABA works and it's why when I worked with autistic kids I wasn't a fan. The child, depending on the IEP, got 3 to 5 seconds to respond and couldn't make a mistake. I mean ALL people make mistakes. I also have autism and yet the school didn't give a toss what I said, like how I told them the lights are very painful to my head and another child's (who was verbal) and they didn't do anything.
It makes me sad to see some of the comments on this thread. As a parent of child with autism it is obvious to me that the people making the negative comments do not have children with autism. This young lady is teaching him to think, act, respond, etc..... This kid is loving it, the only thing he cares about are those m&m's and as ling as those keep flowing he's good. If you don't have experience with a autistic child and all your knowledge is out of a book.... You're a fool to judge this lady.
@dekeama she is a remarkably lady and doing her job very well. But, having autism, I really wish that ABA allowed the kids to get at least 10 full seconds to respond. That is a flaw in our North American culture. In Asia, they give kids a full 15-18 seconds before responding and often get better results, both with autistic and with typical kids.
Alright all you ABA haters (Heaven forbid we teach children to follow directions so they can enter a normal school setting) So you mind your tax dollars going to ASD adults who never received any intensive intervention therapy as children? Who cares if they never learn to communicate with other people as long as they're happy right?
@annaliz1981 many kids won't enter a normal school settings because of their violent behaviour. There are pros and cons to ABA. I have taught ABA and I am on the spectrum myself. The reaction time needs to be much slower. The impulse to give the answer coz the child doesn't respond in literally 3 seconds is an overlooked part of American culture. Research how they do it in Asia. :) As for communicating, it helps many children as well as PECS
@TheTravelfool In every profession some are better at their job than others. A good therapist knows when their client is thinking about how to respond, being non compliant, or completely checked out. The 3 to 5 seconds is just a guideline. Americans in general do expect things to happen much faster than the rest of the world. And I don't think just ABA is the only way to go, but I don't think it's fair for certain "experts" to go tell the world that's it damaging children.
@annaliz1981 I definitely agree with that because every child is different. ABA works for some, but not for others. Where I worked the 3-5 seconds had to be followed extremely thoroughly. Off topic, have you heard about the benefits of cilantro?
@annaliz1981 Chelation treatment is very dangerous so my doctor has me eat cilantro. You can cook it in the meals, garnish it on salads, etc it's a very popular method in Spain as well. Cilantro is safe (unless you're allergic, which is rare) and acts as a natural chelation treatment instead of putting the child or adult in danger by doing actual chelation treatment. Blueberries also help with inflammation problems.
I'm really upset by some of the comments on this video. This child has obviously made incredible progress for his age. He is speaking, sitting still, listening, counting and smiling. If you say that this is torture just look at how much he enjoys learning and achieving. ABA is not to make him a robot. Its to help him have a functioning place in the world, rather than being unable to communicate and have complete disinterest in in others. Look at him, he is doing so wonderfully!
I never leave comments on YouTube, but as someone who works with children both neurotypical and on the spectrum, I found this video quite disturbing. If one goal of ABA is to improve social interaction, shouldn't we maintain eye contact rather than breaking it to grab the next item, while still "conversing"? And what's with the grabbing the kid's hands down and yanking him towards her? How does that teach anything other than that he is on her schedule and plan?
@HarpyFruitBat Well, I don't think I have as much experiance as you although I have worked with Autistic Children as well, I know that there are some pulling and streaching theropies that help children to relax their body and feel better. Maybe thats what this was about? I do have to say both the teacher and student were having a good time and the child was showing what he knew and looked happy to do so.
@ettepareva this is exactly what ABA is like and trust me, this is an excellent therapist. Right now it isn't about cuddles, it's about academics. Also, keep in mind she is forced to do her job a certain way.
@ettepareva Agreed in a way. I don't like the methods she is using, but I feel perhaps her company forces her to do so. I worked at an "excellent" place that I didn't feel was excellent and had to act a bit like this woman, and it made me feel well frankly uncomfortable.
Sad, typical and horrific robotic training. This is criminal or at very best severely misguided. This has nothing to do with addressing the integration of the Underlying core deficits in ASD and related challenges (communicating and relating around the child natural affect). How is this addressing the core issue of healthy emerging autonomy; child in into affect gestural and verbal reciprocity around his natural intent? Thisdoes not address Developmental issues just robotic surface behaviors.
@Neilgs So show us what IS fixing these developmental issues. I do ABA with kids all day. In only a month I've seen the kids in my classroom grow leaps and bounds in areas of communication and self direction. It's not a cure by any stretch of the imagination, but Applied Behavior Analysis is working for these kids. You can hardly call communication a robotic surface behavior, and at any rate- anything that ANYONE first begins to learn is going to be a little forced and "robotic" feeling.
@SuperFloopyDelux Unfortunately, I do not have any clips of clients to put here but hopefully in the near future. It is not that "ABA" does not "work" it is using the wrong tool and the wrong approach as it's unequivocally Non-Developmental, as it entirely fails to address the preverbal affective levels of engagement; which is deepening dyadic (two way) attachment and pleasurable affect reciprocal circles of communication based upon following the child's natural lead/intent..
This includes what is egregiously look upon as aberrant or non-functional perseverative (repetitive) behaviors, which with the exception of self (or other) injurious behaviors is comfortable and affect-sensory-emotional wise re-assuring for the child and MUST be respected and regarded as MEANINGFUL and engaged by the adult (i.e., as part of a two-way meaning making process). That is called cultivating attention (engagement) and then adding affective
(emotional) variations, proprioceptive (jumping in a different manner), vestibular (spinning in a different manner and adding high-fives with verbal affective inflected range and variation, etc.. In other words, we are co-creating with the child (e.g., incorporating rich affective facial, gestural, tactile, etc. engagement and using our voices in emphasis emotional qualitative nature of our voice)....
This begins to create the foundation of rich social-engagement and most significantly the foundations of HEALTHY autonomy , rather than the standard "do this!" Show me this__" ,which has absolutely NADA to do with social pragmatics of simple engagement or simple social pre-verbal or verbal communication. Teaching a child to follow commands is NOT teaching a child how to meaningfully and spontaneously engage with symbolic to reflective and critical thinking and verbal comm, skills
I would love to know if half of you people making comments on here actually have an autisic child. Some of the comments on here are very insensitive. As a mom of 2 autistic children, you have no idea the challenges us and our children face. If you don't know what you are talking about, you should keep your comments to yourself.
Hippocratic oath= I swear by Apollo the healer & take witness to all other gods that I will NEVER EVER hurt anyone in practice of medicine.. Now- where's the baby in 4 healthy baby visit? Hush little baby, don't U cry, Doc's gona inject U with formaldehyde. If that poison don't keep U sick, Doc's gona try another trick.. (Also includes aborted fetal tissue & aluminum in witch's brew) English word "Pharmacy" comes from Greek Pharmakeia means witchcraft, poison, sorcery. Things still remain same.
How can 11 people dislike this video, some people dont know how hard it is to get to this stage in our childs journeys and how every achievement is amazing.Funny how people can be so ignorant and forget that having a child with special needs can happen to them.My son is a fighter and proves doctors wrong all the time im so glad that he doesnt understand some peoples comments. If I feel sorry for anyone Its the haters they must of been treated bad as a child to search you tube and comment abuse!
I've written the first year of my discovery of my son's Autism here: hubpages(.)com/hub/Autistic_Ayden I also explain what Autism here: hubpages(.)com/hub/Autism_Explained I was hoping you would read, rate, comment, and if you like it, share it. I'm going to be posting the second year within a few days, I'd appreciate it if you'd let me know how you like it. Support and spread Autism Awareness!
While this interaction is awesome, every parent choosing an autism treatment for his/her child is advised to select only those interventions deemed "evidence-based."
While completing the research phase of my M. Ed. dissertation with respect to Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA), I addressed the subject of ABA being "evidence-based." If you want to know more about the peer reviews of Lovaas's seminal 1987 study, read my article: search in Google: "ABA study not evidence-based articlesbase"
too bad the price is candy. Sugar is the last thing you can give to an autistic child maybe if they learn about the diet that these kids need it could be better.
NO vaccine EVER proven safe or effective. 1853 UK had mandatory small pox law= fines increased to criminal jail in '67 & near 100% compliance by '71. Results? 1872 worse epidemic small pox ever near 45,000 deaths. 1955 health director Peterson of Idaho halted Salk polio vaccine program. Medical industry pushes vaccines to create sick people. They need sick people to make money. If there were no sick people they'd be out of cushy jobs. Sadist should be charged criminally liars they R

yes - aba seems intense to most. but if it works for your child - go with it. we have seen a a complete turn around in our son. he needs the structure of aba. as parents - you do what you feel is best...
Did you start with a hierarchical learning in which you teach a broad stimulus class and then teach discrimination training within stimulus classes within the broad stimulus class?
@averagejoe511 a child rolling around the floor screaming for most of his waking day because he cannot communicate his needs is NOT a happy child. A child who is taught to communicate their needs is a much happier child. my son who is now 13yrs followed an ABA programme for 5 years. . . . . . . . he is still very much an autistic child but thanks to the ABA he is now a HAPPY autistic child who is able to communicate his needs to others. I DID NOT do it to make me happy, i did it for him.
@averagejoe511 - it can be the difference between them learning to learn.. or not. Every parent wants their child to be able to grow to independence. You should not be so judgmental of parents trying to give their kids the best possible chance to do that.

My Son was a happy and alert baby, checked out his environment, as a baby he danced to a dancing santa & with his 1st laugh he made eye contact with pooh bear & Hardly talked until 4. His dad was a happy baby & hardly talked until he was 3 or 4. His dad excells at a particular subject-Maths. His Dad does well in all areas. His Dad knows hes bright & lets people know. His Dad likes to be in charge. His dad is social with those he knows. Can fit into social situations without being social
My son used to be able to match color coins, & match shapes, he knew some shapes & colors. He hardly talked. But sang twinkle little star. He had Autism symptoms like lining, stacking & interests in particular subjects. He stopped saying shapes & colors. Stopped matching colors. I saw him trace cartoons, & then know how to draw. Its possible he traced letters & wrote them alongside the letters that he traced. His Dad thinks big Sissy did it. Dads friend thinks he did a word find & is gifted

@cymbiesMommy The one and only study showing 'recovery' from autism with ABA was done in 1987, when Asperger Syndrome was still a rare diagnosis, and their criteria for calling a child recovered consisted of features that kids with AS typically show when first diagnosed (normal IQ, academically successful in mainstream grade 1). And it used aversives, which are generally not used in modern ABA treatments. ABA is effective in making kids higher functioning, but it doesn't cure autism.
@Abnormaldiversity True, but there is no "cure" for autism. There are only biomedical and nonmedical options to help treat some of the symptoms associated with all disorders in the ASD umbrella. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to argue, I'm just trying to do as much research I can for a 5-7 minute presentation in my Educational Psychology course.
@5hudsonc take a look at multisensorytherapy(dot) org. Claudie Gordon Pomares, at the very least, has really excellent insights on this topic. this is response to your "there is no cure" statement.
Great example of decontextualized teaching using contrived stimuli that will eventually require reteaching for generalization. Rather than teach eating, drinking, cookies, etc. using these contrived scenarios, teach in naturally occurring conditions under which the behavior is typically needed. This video exemplifies our desire for convenience in teaching. Using DTT in natural situations takes more time, planning, and expertise, but results in skills the child actually uses.
dehumanizing clearly do not understand what ABA encompasses. ABA is Applied Behavior Analysis and involves the observation, measurement, and control of socially significant human behavior.
These comments all exhibit a true lack of what ABA is. ABA is not defined by autism however it is the ONLY empirically based therapy tested time and time again with great results. There is a reason why school districts and regional centers have made a shift towards only excepting therapy based in ABA as the main mode to treat individuals with autism. It is the only one that exhibits measurable and scientific results not based in subjective theory. For people to think that ABA is
strengths and challenges (i.e., under-reactivities, over -reactivities, mixed reactivities within one or more domains). However, it is the deepening of the integration of Meaningful (not robotic on cue or prompted), affective co-regulated circles of spontaneous communication - through emotional problem solving and more complex sequencing of ideation, symbolic play, etc., that begins to integrate and strengthen core underlying neuronal connections.
By having the child have the child complete compliance based commands on cue
is not only dehumanizing it is evincing a next to nothing or poor understanding of
emotional attachment and Development, and the more complexly diverse and subtle strengths and challenges (in terms of variations of functional-emotional development and processing domains (proprioceptive, vestibular tactile, auditory, etc.), as well as the impact of caregiver and clinician affective styles to a child's current processing
cortex (or praxis), visual-spatial processing, ideation, motor-planning and execution and the limbic system (All or nothing, catastrophic responses, meltdown tantrums, etc.). This is facilitated by caregivers following the child lead (self and other non-injurious behaviors) and deepening pleasurable emotional based circles of communication (diverse facial and somatic affect accompanying with variations of inflexion of voice: emotional or affective rhythm, tone, pregnant pauses, etc.).
I am a developmental special educator working extensively with families and their children across the spectrum. Sorry, but contrary to Popular misinformation, it is not about one iota about "teaching the child replacement behaviors" (or shameful robotic responses, as we see in the above and throughout ABA). In fact, it is not about "behaviors." ASD entails nuanced emotional developmental and sensory processing challenges, for example, between the executive functions of the prefrontal....
So many people don't know about Autism, and they act as if they could do better. Or they are just being troll and teasing kids with disabilities. How immature can you get? Seriously, I like what she is doing. She's kept his attention and his brain is working preventing him from being distracted. My son would do well with this.
Maybe you should educated yourself about Autism before you make degrading comments to people who are doing every thing to help their children. ABA is a tride and True method for helping Autistic children learn. You shouldn't discuss or comment on what you don't understand. This therapy can be so successful children have RECOVERED, yes, RECOVERED from Autism and are indistinguishable from their peer. You're a rude, foul mouthed, uneducated ass for saying such things.

Why would you ask "What are we working for?" and then require the child to say "I am working for m&ms"? What was wrong with him just responding "m&ms"? I know she's trying to work on increasing his MLU, but this isn't natural sounding. And I like how she places demands on him during his reinforcement. This is NOT a good representation of how using ABA principles can help children with ASD increase their language and communication skills. It worries me that so many people have watched this.
@AllOtherNamesTaken2 you're a lying bitch! there are no famous aspies. you can't prove it, asshole. you're just trying to justify your SHITTY WORTHLESS CRAP EXISTENCE. lmao. you crack me up!! lol.
I have better than average social skills right now, but I didn't learn it until after I was 15. It exhausts me to practice it, and i don't enjoy it. But I believe that had I learned it young, it may have become automatic. Aspies don't like it when I say that, but learning how to smile (and the other things) does not fundamentally change one's personality, it's just a pain in the butt if you learn it too late.
@AllOtherNamesTaken2 oh dear i'm happy to hear you say that. faking a smile doesn't make you smile, it makes you feel weirdly self concious. i'm a girl and i started on my own round age 6 or 7, i can tell you it's never automatic as in "comfortable". i smile when i laugh that's the basics, polite smiles have no emotion behind it even for NTs so don't feel bad if you can't put your finger on it: it just doesn't exist naturally.
@a12gregjockca Did you really spend 2 days responding to people's messages? A waste of time?
And I'm autistic. I have learned to have decent social skills (I have a trained EQ of 107), and I could easily have started taking calculus when I was 13. Next to me, you are probably closer to being a disgusting retard than the child in the video.
& Bill Gates, Ben Franklin, General Patton, Einstein, Edison, and most famous smart people are suspected aspies. You'd be living in a cave without us.
@AllOtherNamesTaken2 bill gates isn't aspie. he's just a fucking ugly DICKTARD. anyone who is useful in society can't be aspie because aspies can't even change their own undies without help. ever seen the movie rainman? obviously not, you ignorant dumb fuck. typical aspie! everybody knows that aspies pee their pants and they're too busy smelling like pee to actually have a respected position in life. sniff sniff i smell aspie andy! lol.
@a12gregjockca LOL @ "i know aspies, i've seen rainman " line, great joke! i'm an aspie. i wear clean underwear. oh noes.i destroyed a little piece of your stupidity! ah well, the world won't miss it.
@ediself if you're REALLY an aspie, how the fuck can you tell the difference between a joke and an eggplant? hunh, wackjob? did your social worker tell you this? don't listen to her. she just wants to kill you off for the insurance.
I'm not sure how you were able to post that opinion. your view is disturbing. is that what you wanted. however, being an autistic parent i've had to adapt to certain things. so your comment doesn't bother me that much. I'm not saying if i ever found you i wouldn't smash your face to pieces.......after all........one has to be held accountable for what comes out of their mouth.
in the olden days, they would just kill these demented little boys or leave them in the woods to die. as we all know, aspies are the worst at hunting. WORST! they so suck. lol.
@a12gregjockca I dare you to live in my world one day, its a good gob it aint the olden days if jokers are not funny they get there heads chopped off!
@PepsiArtMcoy2349 denial is the sign of MENTAL DELUSION, fruitcake. be brave, asshole. you wanna fight me? is that it, punk? rofl. cut your face off with a weedwacker.
@a12gregjockca OK...WAIT!!! I'm not trying to start a fight at all AND WHAT THE HELL HAVE I DONE WRONG!? I SAID HE WAS "SMART" NOT "STUPID" YOUR THE ASSHOLE,HERE!!
These threads show how much is known about ABA. ABA stands for applied behavior analysis. It is based on principles of BEHAVIOR...not just the behaviors of autism. Every human behaves unless you are dead so ABA is able to explain responding in that sense. People who think ABA will not work on adults are completely misinformed. Principles of behavior are general to everyone in areas of business, health, sports, etc...
aw i wish my old day care lady was like that. (she pushed me down the stairs and pushed my sister off a ride and she kept bleeding and she did nothing)
This video is not "ABA". It is showing DTT, which is a very specific teaching methodology which uses ABA principles. It is misleading to make the statement that this represents ABA. That being said, this is a very good sample of DTT.
this video is not ABA, it is Discrete trail training (DTT) which is one intervention within ABA. The therapist also uses a form of token economy system which is also another type of intervention within ABA. It is important that this child uses another type of intervention along with DTT so he is able to generalize what he is learning in DTT and so that he does not become rote like when speaking.
Lets look the country that produces nearly all of our products including food! A country that has shown time and time again that they are willing to produce poisonous products to sell to us. Don't expect our distributors of their products to test to see if they are safe. They don't want to know that they will have to ship it all back. Its this simple. Before and during pregnancy, no fish or shellfish from anywhere. Be careful what you eat. It could be tainted. You would never know.
my mate has a son who is autarded;its hideous, with a massive bulbous head, wide staring eyes and runs round the house on its tip toes making noises;its an obscene repulsive freak.
yay! recently they discovered the many varied genes of autism and they can test whether babies are autistic! that's WONDERFUL news! that means we identify and ABORT horrible mutant austistic babies! i love science! now no more inferiors. lol!
@77alexz yeah well too bad. autistic people smell like urine. anybody else notice this? why can't those assholes bathe themselves? totally useless and disgusting.
@shinymarshtop2 if they can't rely on themselves, then fuck them. wasted energy, people. time to hurl these babies into a ravine and have proper babies.
@MrA5gregjockca im not the troller here smart one have you even seen what your channel comments say? everyone hates your trolling. i dont even think you support the things you said about autistic people cuz you try to say things that you think are funny all over youtube just to be the biggest jackass you can be. have fun rotting in your little hell hole. you are a worthless little shit who can only make yourself fell better ny talking crap about others. im done wasting my time talking to u
=') thank for this vid it reminds me of when I went under therapy.(unlike some parents whom wanted a perfect normal child and cries to find out they are autism and try to fine cures..)
my parents got me into therapy and speech classes for 6-7 years!! i love them for caring for me and not giving hope up just cause I was born autisic. I still have a picture album of my early therapy classes... man those people are decacated to help the disable!! we need more people like this!( RonPaul)
@Cathiine@Star712 this sort of therapy is often needed with autistic children. Without it they would develop a rather warped understanding of the world and cannot cope in real life situations. If my brother didn't have his therapy sessions as a young child then he would not be at the stages he's at today.
you should see how these kids function without this kind of therapy ...
they don;t function ...
it may look like dog-training but it is invaluable to show these kids the importance of communication .... they simply don;t understand its function otherwise ... which means they just don;t communicate at all.
My partner's son has autism, she spent every moment of his 13yrs & now you wouldn't know that he has it. He "They" are more intelligent than you or me...

TheTravelfool 3 months ago
@TheTravelfool In every profession some are better at their job than others. A good therapist knows when their client is thinking about how to respond, being non compliant, or completely checked out. The 3 to 5 seconds is just a guideline. Americans in general do expect things to happen much faster than the rest of the world. And I don't think just ABA is the only way to go, but I don't think it's fair for certain "experts" to go tell the world that's it damaging children.
annaliz1981 3 months ago
@annaliz1981 I definitely agree with that because every child is different. ABA works for some, but not for others. Where I worked the 3-5 seconds had to be followed extremely thoroughly. Off topic, have you heard about the benefits of cilantro?
TheTravelfool 3 months ago
@TheTravelfool I haven't heard anything about cilantro in relation to Autism.
annaliz1981 3 months ago
@annaliz1981 Chelation treatment is very dangerous so my doctor has me eat cilantro. You can cook it in the meals, garnish it on salads, etc it's a very popular method in Spain as well. Cilantro is safe (unless you're allergic, which is rare) and acts as a natural chelation treatment instead of putting the child or adult in danger by doing actual chelation treatment. Blueberries also help with inflammation problems.
TheTravelfool 3 months ago
@TheTravelfool None of my clients do that. I'll keep that in mind though.

Look at him, he is doing so wonderfully!
gemmalover 4 months ago 18
I never leave comments on YouTube, but as someone who works with children both neurotypical and on the spectrum, I found this video quite disturbing. If one goal of ABA is to improve social interaction, shouldn't we maintain eye contact rather than breaking it to grab the next item, while still "conversing"? And what's with the grabbing the kid's hands down and yanking him towards her? How does that teach anything other than that he is on her schedule and plan?
HarpyFruitBat 5 months ago
@HarpyFruitBat Well, I don't think I have as much experiance as you although I have worked with Autistic Children as well, I know that there are some pulling and streaching theropies that help children to relax their body and feel better. Maybe thats what this was about? I do have to say both the teacher and student were having a good time and the child was showing what he knew and looked happy to do so.

Neilgs 5 months ago 3
@Neilgs So show us what IS fixing these developmental issues. I do ABA with kids all day. In only a month I've seen the kids in my classroom grow leaps and bounds in areas of communication and self direction. It's not a cure by any stretch of the imagination, but Applied Behavior Analysis is working for these kids. You can hardly call communication a robotic surface behavior, and at any rate- anything that ANYONE first begins to learn is going to be a little forced and "robotic" feeling.
SuperFloopyDelux 1 month ago
@SuperFloopyDelux Unfortunately, I do not have any clips of clients to put here but hopefully in the near future. It is not that "ABA" does not "work" it is using the wrong tool and the wrong approach as it's unequivocally Non-Developmental, as it entirely fails to address the preverbal affective levels of engagement; which is deepening dyadic (two way) attachment and pleasurable affect reciprocal circles of communication based upon following the child's natural lead/intent..
Neilgs 1 month ago
This includes what is egregiously look upon as aberrant or non-functional perseverative (repetitive) behaviors, which with the exception of self (or other) injurious behaviors is comfortable and affect-sensory-emotional wise re-assuring for the child and MUST be respected and regarded as MEANINGFUL and engaged by the adult (i.e., as part of a two-way meaning making process). That is called cultivating attention (engagement) and then adding affective

In other words, we are co-creating with the child (e.g., incorporating rich affective facial, gestural, tactile, etc. engagement and using our voices in emphasis emotional qualitative nature of our voice)....
Neilgs 1 month ago
This begins to create the foundation of rich social-engagement and most significantly the foundations of HEALTHY autonomy , rather than the standard "do this!" Show me this__" ,which has absolutely NADA to do with social pragmatics of simple engagement or simple social pre-verbal or verbal communication. Teaching a child to follow commands is NOT teaching a child how to meaningfully and spontaneously engage with symbolic to reflective and critical thinking and verbal comm, skills

Abnormaldiversity 11 months ago
@Abnormaldiversity True, but there is no "cure" for autism. There are only biomedical and nonmedical options to help treat some of the symptoms associated with all disorders in the ASD umbrella. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to argue, I'm just trying to do as much research I can for a 5-7 minute presentation in my Educational Psychology course.

There should only be comments that are relevant to the video: children with autism receiving the help they need.

@Cathiine @Star712 this sort of therapy is often needed with autistic children. Without it they would develop a rather warped understanding of the world and cannot cope in real life situations. If my brother didn't have his therapy sessions as a young child then he would not be at the stages he's at today.

@Cathiine
you should see how these kids function without this kind of therapy ...
they don;t function ...
it may look like dog-training but it is invaluable to show these kids the importance of communication .... they simply don;t understand its function otherwise ... which means they just don;t communicate at all.
