  • I'm going to see the Arctic Monkeys in Orlando soon, your cramping my style. Although I gotta admit (this music was referred to me for mentioning Arctic Monkeys) this is soul-full and very real. ~P.A.Y

  • Tellin Stories is. How u say. 'the best album of the 90's'

  • glorious stuff

  • Saw these lads at Brum o2 arena last week, absolutley fucking mindblowing. Made me feel 17 again. Shaun Ryder was pretty good aswell.... and remarkably not off his tits. Happy days.

  • My god Tim was sooooo young, gooooshhhh

  • agree.brixton rocked friday.still got it.the best of british.

  • hope the drummer gets better soon!

  • you cant beat the charlies or inspiral carpets.

  • The best days of my life, 95 to 98, the music that was around at that time will not be beaten, apart from madchester, remember watchin tfi as you was gettin ready to go out, drop a cag on, levis 501s, an a pair of gazelles, walkin with a swagger an you was ready to take on the world, the weekend had truly landed. happy days!

  • Hppay days..in Manchester i remember it well..I think..lol..Fac51 brick house legands.......dont make them like they use to......You get cred n sytle dont build it....

  • search "Led Zeppelin - Night Flight"

  • Tim looks very nice here :)

  • Wish they'd bring back TFI Friday (or something like it). There's currently nowhere on mainstream TV for live music - other than Jools Holland or those awful programmes after midnight on Ch4 with "Tesco" in the title (ironic given that supermarkets have been in no small part responsible for the destruction of dedicated record shops....)

  • one wkd tune ! klass ! z x reminds me of u lsd u know who u r ? x

  • i do still go to gigs...i was at murrayfield lately to see oasis kasabian and the enemy.....all three were brilliant

  • their debut album was hailed as the best brittish debut album of all time....made me laugh when u think of the roses debut and definately maybe, these albums were the real deal, true brittish gems.....like alex turner famously said..."dont believe the hype"

  • john mcluskey...on ur point, yea the verve deserve their place as a great brittish band, they came along at the end of that movement along wi the stereophonics, and both cud be classed as two of the last great bands to come out of britain in the last 20 years......arctic monkeys on the other hand belong to an era where they scoff at u for sayin it how it is, evebn when u do it through rock n roll.....its just too hollow and dishonest for me, to clean cut and snobby, i really do think theyre shit

  • supermellonman...oasis ARE great, no question, i know they wernt around furin madchester but they led the next great culture movement that was britpop, i dont like callin it britpop because the best best bands involved in it were not pop, with the exeption of blur (ok pulp were pop but they made classics) black grape, bluetones, cast, oasis, OCS, kula shaker etc etc were all rockin bands.....

  • Just go see them if you still go to gigs.

  • still the greatest band ive ever seen live

  • An uberrated masterpiece and brill;iantly performed as ever

  • Trip m8, and SuperMellonman are both right. These bands were brilliant. I still like Oasis though and I think The Verve should also be nearly top of the list of true greats. I wud love to see The Charlatans live

  • TRIP is right exept for Oasis. Don't bring them into it they wasn't there in the day they got nuffin to do with it.

  • these pishy little indie bands have no soul, britain was the place to be in the 90s....oasis the roses, these boys, primal scream, james......and these cunts WERE rock n roll, unlike the weedy little poofy, studenty, political correctness embracin, drainpipe jeans wearin scrotes of todays generation......arctic monkeys, the kooks, razorlight, kaiser cheifs.....im almost ashamed to call myself brittish, no wonder theres so much rap music these days when THAT is the alternative

  • The arctic monkeys are good though. Don't get caught up in your own (which sounds like my generation too). Gets on my tits when people bang on about the good old days, 50s, 60s,70s 80's, 90s people say it for all of them. There's always good stuff out there.

  • @TR1PACE5 Hurricane #1,the mondays, pulp, bluetones, shed seven, sleeper, supergrass(occasionally),suedeand even the manics the attitude, the clothes, the music, the swagger, the crowds, the programmes everything was better in the nineties and this is not just me getting old

  • @gladhand1001 dont forget cast, OCS, kula shaker, the la's, radiohead (1 or 2 good ones)....and even when i look back now, altho i was, am, and always will be oasis thru n thru, you have to say it, you cant deny, blur aswell!

  • @TR1PACE5 on second thoughts, do forget Cast and OCS

  • @BORROVAN26 on 2nd thoughts??? what were your 1st thoughts lol

  • @TR1PACE5 I used to think Cast were OK, even saw them live a couple of times, but looking back, they were decidedly 2nd division stuff. Still quite like Sandstorm though. I thought OCS were horrendous even before Chris Evans got them popular, the ginger bugger. But anyway, there's a reason why the Charlatans are still going strong and most of the other bands that were around in 97 aren't, even the ones i thought were pretty good. I even liked Northern Uproar. I was wrong about that one.

  • @BORROVAN26 well northern uproar definately were poop, but cast had a really good album, finetime is a classic, so is alright, there were some really good songs on that record, then they came back with mother nature calls....sorry pal i cant knock cast, and OCS mosely shoals album is rightly regarded as one of the defining album of the era.......these are 2 class bands, i cant see your point

  • @TR1PACE5 either way, i don't envy todays kids with the choice of scouting for girls and the kooks... you don't realise how lucky you are at the time! i'm giving cast a rethink as i write :) history was a good one as well.

  • @BORROVAN26 yep also 'live the dream' is one of ther best songs, walkaway and guiding star

  • I agree, I bought Mosely Shoals from ASDA and put it on while in the bath. I remember thinking between washing my hair "fucking hell, Oasis had better step up now". Sadly they didnt and OCS ebbed the tide. but Mosely Shoals was one cracking album and for me one of the best that came out of the whole era. Cast - like listening to Hari Krishnas on alcohol - too happy happy. But to be fair History has to be one of my favourite 90's songs - loved their drummer too, crazy son of a bitch!

  • @gladhand1001 Damn Well Said !!

  • @TR1PACE5 , SO VERY TRUE, Throw in RIDE, inspiral carpets and

    slowdive also.

  • sublime

  • This stuff pisses all over the new breed of 'indie' bands. Bands like Oasis, charlatans, Stone Roses will never be better in my opinion!!!!

  • agree :)

  • Klass ...........

  • each to the own loops :)

  • now thats indie music none of the 2000 n 09 shit who agrees

  • not me mate, this is rubbish

  • i tottaly agree music today is sour grapes student bullshit

indie was indie back in the day it reminds me of a bunch of lads getting pissed stoned and listening too great bands

  • class , pure class , what year was this song released ??????????

  • 1997 - off of the 'Tellin' Stories' album

  • Yep, 1997! Top vid though mate thanks for posting. takes me back

  • class fooking class

  • a beautiful tune from the great survivors

of madchester. wasnt it a magic era!

    charlies, inspirals, roses, james, and

    the mondays.

  • The Stone Roses. How sad, though, that the evident mystery and passion in their songs is lost on many people who have to bludgeoned with cheap cliche to be moved. The Charlatans are as real a deal as you will get.

  • ssen them not long ago charatans one fine brit bad

  • Yeah, they've written some beauties...less annoying than Oasis too

  • agree less anoying but keeping that rough grough guitar sound :)

  • I have recently listened again to Tellin' Stories and Us and Us Only. The Charlatans really painted an atmosphere in their songs. Their best songs can easily stand up with the likes of Urban Hymns in terms of a sense of mystery but I actually rank The Charlatans higher because they can do so whilst also being positive. Tim Burgess' cherubic like demeanour (like Ian Brown back in the day), coupled with their superb appreciation for music, puts them somewhere in the ranks of The Byrds and

  • That "Tellin' Stories" album came out at a great time.Between Oasis' 2nd & 3rd albums and at the point when Britpop started to take it's foot off the pedal. The Charlatans always seemed to mop up where bigger, more popular bands had left off.

  • TFI had the best bands on during the britpop yrs

  • Brings back a few memories this.

  • What an album that was, defined the 90's perfectly.

    Joyful, so many good memories!

  • Wasnt it a great album! Very underrated

  • fucking fantastic

  • The Charlies are the 2nd best band in rock music history next to the Stones. The problem is you must be 30 or above to appreciate them. They are like all of rock history thrown together, Dylan, the Stones, Oasis, but as you might hear them in a haunting dream.

Even if I don't know what Burgess is on about, the sheer beauty of the Charlatans sound is unparalleled, and they do it without sacrificing an ounce of rock muscle. This is one of the few BANDS, not just production wizardry.

  • "its just part of knowin where you come from, bein human ,singin love songs can begin to fill your day"........For me this song is just sheer unbridled f*cking joy man!!!! Grabs you by the balls and takes you flyin man!!! In my top 5 this album!!!STILL.

  • nevillebloody now were talkin m8 still listen to all this music still onli buy gazelle and superstar god they were the days memories.........................

  • am 20 now and buy gazelles off ebay! listen to the charlatans all the time got every album even the char60 promo melting pot! all i wish was if some of me friends liked them instead of razorlight and babyshambles etc

  • the unluckiest band in history, armed robbery etc.

they managed to outlast the stone roses and the happy mondays though, fucking class tune, turn it up!

  • turn it up

  • ALL manchester bands are great in there own ways. The charlatans are the best though especially this song.

  • Not really, cos this is one of their best and the Stone Roses have about 30 songs as good as Going Down.

But I suppose they're both pretty chilled out if thats what you mean...

Fucking amazing tune though either way..

  • thanks for posting! I really think that this song is their equivalent that the "goin' down" song is for the stone roses.

  • Exciting days... Every Friday evening was like Christmas morning - 22 years old, watch TFI, ask me mum to iron mi 'Friday shirt', get in bath, basically over scrub around the bell incase I got lucky, borrow mi brothers Jazz aftershave, listen to Charlatans while I'm getting ready to go out... oooooooooooooooh happy days..... i want em' back!

  • Too right

  • absolute class band fookin cmon,

  • too right, i was 18 at the time, and had the same friday night patern, get in from work, scrub my balls, put on my Adidas 3 stripe trac top on and off down the Penny in Canterbury to try and get hold of some indie birds while dancing to the best tunes ever. Aftershave of choice...Joop...lol

Best days of my life, i feel lucky to have been older enuff to have lived it, and i knew it at the time too.

  • I was 19 when it came out, used to love fridays, tfi, the pub, leathered then do it again on saturday, same as everyone else id love to be back there sometimes, 30 now and feeling old!

aftershave of choice back then was tommy by tommy hilfiger!

  • Yeah mate!!Proper fuckin' times they were!I was in college back then (enrolled anyway) and friday nights had the same routine, dinner watching TFI,mates'd come round, bit o' spliff then down the busstop, tins o' stella, into town dancing to all them era defining tunes...

  • 90's children

  • @utubedannyb Tell me about my friend, Sitting with my tea on a try after I had got ready waiting for Richie Colliet to come and pick me up to go down the Boathouse on a Friday evening I knew that the weekend had started the summers of 96 & 97 where as much fun as I have every had!

  • @utubedannyb Exactly the same here. Although I was about 16 at the time though. I am still handsome though, I've not lost it.

  • @utubedannyb what a lovely image. do be clean.

  • @utubedannyb Great memory, man. Outstanding.

  • @utubedannyb ahh i remember those dayz lol

  • @utubedannyb How sweet your mom was!!! And so is your memory...Loved TFI Friday...90's was such a golden age...

  • I'm 35 now, how time flies. Still think about the empty Jazz bottle, the smell of Fahrenheit from the oldies at the bar, Jean Paul Gaultier (to be posh) around me own neck, Clarks Wallabees on me feet and top buttons fastened on me shirts.....and being miserably desecrated on how my Oasis was being screamed by middle aged women in my favourite pubs. But now its different - I can go to Student bars and listen to my music again and feel happy without no Wonderwall. Lovin gerrin older!

  • I loved TFI Friday

  • TFI Friday and OCS all ways reminds me of the summers of "96" and "97" and being 24, getting in from work and I would have my tea on a tray, watching it on the TV in the front room, Going down the Boathouse with Richie Collit in Connah's Quay, North Wales, Great Great Day's with Top Lads!!!!

  • Class !

  • Brillaint!

  • we will play with the charlatans!!! ohhhhhh yeahhhh

  • I used to record all the bands that appeared on TFI but I've lost the tape it was on :(

  • Reminds me of been 21. I got the dj to play it for me on my night out.

    aww bless eh.

    Great band.

  • Fucking brilliant

  • fucking awesome!
