  • Man look at that hair!! It definitely has that fluff factor no doubt about it!!

  • Great performance

  • Off beat...But great as always

  • Surely a timeless message.

    Peace.

    Rock

  • Jesse Colin Young was vastly underrated. Probably due in part to the vast wealth of new talent coming out back then, and sub par management.

  • live version is not always the same as the studio version that we are used to hearing on radio.

  • coisa linda!

tempo bom que não volta mais!

    :)

  • Milton Berle ...yes they were cool...great times...

  • Did he say warm "recession" or reception?

  • The second song "Sunlight" (beginning at 1:17) is where it's at. Jesse Colin Young assumed his rightful place among the songwriting gods with Sunlight. All you need is to write one all-time great song, it distinguishes you forever. (And if you notice, for whatever reason, we haven't heard too many new all-time great songs in the past 25 years).

  • Banana has a great version too! grandpabanana daught com

  • These guys must have been stoned! What a crappy performance.

  • He is the bomb....how romantic..I LOVE him.... I experienced him in VA Beach

in the 1980's and he still is WONDERFUL!!!!!!!!!!

  • dont liek this version at all. creative but awful... probaboy were made to sing it that way... back then they had to do what they were told.

    Sunlight sounded nice though.

  • dont liek this version at all. creative but awful... probaboy were made to sing it that way... back then they had to do what they were told

  • they were so high , that they couldn't play get together

  • i think...meat puppets somehow...were influence by these guys...i mean they look like them

  • I love this...............thanks for sharing.

  • He's cute but find work else where! :P

  • The hottest band we have today in show business? Oh yeah Milton was deep into the scene as the strapping young bucks say.

  • They are working with what they have. Which is not much for 70's TV.

  • I hate bands that do not attempt to perform a song as closely as possible to the studio version. "Get together" didn't even sound like the same song. Not even close. It just sucked.

  • they were probably high

  • Great vintage video! I loved both songs! And it has been awhile since I heard "Sunlight" and it was performed beautifully here!

  • he was cute..

  • why do bands do this? It was so lovely, the original, but it's sort of funked up and sang too fast. I still like to see who did it.

  • I agree that the origional was always better BUT when these artist performed on tv back then you were getting a free concert. Try that today.

  • When on TV they are on a time restriction too. That song at regular speed is quite long.

  • 1skunkus, I myself, don't understand how bands make a perfect studio version, and then sing it differently outside. But I do like 'Sunlight' in this song.

  • @1skunkus the reason this was done was due to time constraints and putting 2 songs together in one, isn't all that easy, either.

  • I have heard JCY sing this song many times and really all of them were slightly different. When you sing the same song thousands of times you have to find ways to keep it fresh in your own mind. They performed the song because they were known well for it, just enough to tease the audience then the new song. Wow what a song, slices through you like hot knife through butter. Smooth as silk, sung from the heart. Thank you for the years of beautiful music Jesse

  • takes me back to my first love

  • what kind of idiot expects a live performance to sound exactly like the charted recorded version? These types need to learn that artists will sound any way they damned well please during live performances. Otherwise you get lip-synching.

  • "Sunlight" sounding fine. Thanks very much.

  • Very surprised by the audience... rather mature folks cheering to a young psychedelic group. More so the host. Scary.

  • I have to believe he purposely sabataged

"Get Together" probably were forced to sing in because it was their most popular song so they screwed it up as revenge!

  • Man they butchered this song! They sound terrible live.

  • Yea, totally!!!

  • @DominicRiv ITS JUST JAZZED UP

  • @DominicRiv yep the miracle of studio work.

  • @DominicRiv Maybe they were high on LSD or something

  • @DominicRiv Not at all!

  • @DominicRiv better than the bullshit that is being played today, that's for damned sure !!!!!

  • @sr71ablackbird I agree with you. But they still sound terrible live.

  • @DominicRiv There are a few that do not sound all that great live, not just them.

  • @DominicRiv Yeah they didn't sound good on Get Together. Such a beautiful song too

  • God, what a CRAP version of this song. The lead singer there must have been higher than a kite. He completely destroys the familiar melody.

    BLEEEECH!

  • Wow, I saw them back around that time, and they really were a great group....

  • how underrated was this band, they sound fuckin great

  • Give Banana a top hat and cigarette and he could be the late 60's version of Slash!

  • Wow.. Sweet version of Sunlight. Kind of a whitebread soul sound.

  • I love the youngbloods

  • I have always hated the way bands did the medley thing on these shows.I wonder if uncle Milty liked these guys

  • I loved this band in the 70's. They were accomplished musicians with a great vocal sound from Jesse. Very underrated. The music is not dimished by time which is unusual.

  • LMAO the guy singing on the left looks EXACTLY like my dad when he was younger.

    ♥Get Together =)

  • a fine specimen of 60's hearthrob

  • Could someone please put up the original SUNLIGHT? Thanks.

  • Wow - this version sucks

  • saw em at the Andrews Amphitheatre Manoa campus, U of Hawaii . 1978Quintessential California Cool. Securtiy was the redneck football boys and if u crossed the line to get close they'd hoist

& throw and u would not be seen again. Jessie Colin Young told them boys to relax and told the crowd to come alittle closer if u want. You had to have been there. Mellow beyond measure..Aloha

  • that was a terrible performance

  • I assume you're talking about the performance of Get Together, which opens the clip and which I agree is not much to write home about. The performance of Sunlight, which starts at 1:17, is superb (in my opinion). In fact, as much as I love the original, I think this is superior -- vocal is freer and more improvisational; electric guitar fills add interest. Anyway, whichever version one prefers, this is a beautiful and too-little-known song.

  • I love Sunlight. Favorite Youngbloods song!

  • Sounds like he's VERY nervous. Who knows. Being on this show is a big step.

  • Sherry shared, Sherry dared, Sherry cared! I got ensnared, I got repaired, I am more aware...now I have tomato and basil wheat thins..they are to die for

  • Glad your'e O.K. ; )

  • Interesting looking audience. The second song is very good. What happened to these guys? GRADE B

  • Not a great version of Get Together but Sunlight was pretty good. Good to see!

  • great song but they suck live

  • I believe years ago I heard Bobby Darin do this song. Anybody know if this is so? I'd like to have the recording.

  • Comment removed

  • Great footage and music! Thanks Sherry for share!

  • looooooove this song........

    nice post .........beyondthebeat

    thanks Sherry for share..

    heehee cute boyfriend........

  • Where was Corbetta???

  • you mean Jerry Corbitt? had left the band prior to Elephant Mountain.

  • Hey Nirvana took a line from the song and used it on "Territorial Pissing"

  • Yeah. It seemed to me that Cobain was mocking this song. Don't you think?

  • Yeah, I think that Cobain mocked the peacefull dreams of these marijuana smockers, he thought heroin was cool !

  • it's not Cabain shouting, its Krist Novoselic the bass player..

  • Sunlight,1st time I heard this version, 3 dog nights also has a sweet version.

  • OMG!! The lead singer is to gorgeous for words!!! The song is awesome to...LOL

  • "We Shall surely pass,When The one that left us here, returns for us at last".

  • Jesse has a beautiful tenor voice.....truly rare in music business.

  • nice intro by Milton Berle. None of that stupidity you saw from Dean Martin introducing the Stones.

  • Great song, but The Youngbloods were horrible at trying to recreate it live.

  • My friends produced his concert in Santa Cruz, Ca. in the early 70's and he and his crew were fantastic. Sunlight is such an awesome song!

  • Stoners.

  • I love the Youngbloods... thank you for posting...

  • This song is from the Youngbloods album,"Elephant Mountain", in my opinion one of the best albums ever made by anyone. I listen to it even today.

    Charsal

  • After December 21 2012 it doesn't matter anymore anyway.

  • Great... interesting style of music, a little different than the heavier styles that were starting to emerge at the time... more folky, yet with jazzy elements... great chords. Fantastic vocals.... a very great, under-rated band... reminds me of some of The Guess Who's softer, jazzier stuff... ie. Sona, Sona...

  • Jesse Colin Young, lead vocalist's fantastic cover version of What's Going on and Mercy Mercy Me taught me Marvin Gaye. He is beautiful !!

  • I once heard or read that this band was so picky and demanding on johnny carson's that he said he would never have a rock band on his show again.DOES ANY ONE KNOW IF THIS IS TRUE?

  • not a very good version of get together ,but sunlight is cool .this is the 1st time i have heard this song!

  • Maybe one of the greatest Love songs ever written,

  • What a treat to see this -- one of my all-time favorite songs -- a too-little-known gem. Jesse's voice was/is amazing.

  • thanxs for the great tenor voice of jesse, and the sound of banana and bauer(miss him)-from brazil!!!

  • Thanks for sharing.

  • finalmente esse clipe voltou, it's wonderful, thaxns from brazil!!!

  • Does anyone remember Bobby Darin doing "Sunlight" later in his life?

  • Sunlight is an underrated song, lovely!

  • Jesse Colin Young! Beautiful voice, beautiful man. He had a wonderful solo song called "Green Hill Mountain Home" ...

  • cinrit, Green Hill Mountain Home was one of my favorites of JCY. I wish someone would post it on You Tube!

  • Like a cool California breeze!

Jessie Colin Young's soaring high tenor is always to be marveled at.
