I think the coupon shame is more a "male" thing than a "coupon" thing. If you notice, he said if there was hot girl behind him NO WAY was he using his coupons. I get it. Some might assume more than one thing--such as 'I'm cheap' or 'I'm metrosexual' or 'I'm married and my wife sent me to the store on an errand'. Either way, I think this was meant to be entertaining, and, indeed, I was entertained! :)

I can relate to the feeling, but what inhibits any self-conscious coupon user (or non-user) is confusing "cheap" with "thrifty." The former connotes people who stretch their dollars/cents to ridiculous degrees, and the latter implies people who refuse to pay more on dumb things (groceries) so to save for awesome things (vacations). Try to see coupons as a way of beating the system. I'd also like to hear your thoughts now about them living in LA post-financial collapse.

Are you ashamed of picking up $1 on the ground or a $10 bill or would you just walk by and leave the $10 on the ground just because some hot chick is walking by. Don't look at coupons as coupons view them as money. You can get your razors free, your colonge free, your deodorant free , nearly 95% of the things you buy at the store free. You can take the money you save with the coupons and take the hot chick you are ashame to use coupons in front of to a very nice restaurant and impress her.
