@mrchuckman64 ....This is not mean to argue a point with you so please don't take it like that. I'm just speaking from things I've read and interviews I've conducted. Maybe occult was the wrong term to use for understanding of what I meant. I could also have used the term metaphysical although both are very broad terms.
@mrchuckman64 Occult is a very broad term. I consider some Norse lore (like the god Loki) to be in that. Stating that, Plant wrote the lyrics to most of the songs and as with No Quarter which refers to Norse lore. I've also had personal interaction with Plant (a benefit of working for a radio station) and have asked JPJ about it and even he said Plant was also into black magic for a period if time. As for the Tolkien, agreed, I think its wonderful he had such an influence on their music.
It's very sketchy, they were very into the occult and rumors of black magic. Not to mention a fasination with JRR Tolkien, at least 5 songs quote his books.
@theirishjoe420 No, only Jimmy Page had a fascination with the occult. As for the rest of the band, I don't think they did. But there's nothing wrong with them incorporating some of Tolkien's stuff, I've never thought of his works as satanic.
Don't u guys know? The reason they split up after John died is because he was the one sacrificed to the devil for being the greatest of all time. At least that's why Jason refused to post with them for so long. He blamed them for his dads death.
Why can't music be this freaking amazing anymore? Like Robert and jimmy and john Paul and john all put emotion into all of their music and now of days everything is just so generic and has no heart or meaning or feeling. Just as long as it sounds cool, the radio station is going to play it. And that's whats wrong with the world
Led Zeppelin: successful but underground in their time, folk-influenced, and unorthodox in their marketing. They were the first hipster band and they still put the new ones to shame.
Hands down and thumbs up the best song ever written paying tribute to "man's best friend" (Roberts best friend). Mine just died a few days ago and I'm hurting bad right now, but this tune makes me think of "all the good times we had" and to push forward.

Led Zeppelin did Acoustic music really well, I love the Folk-y twang to this, its a shame more bands of the time and genre didn't make much music like this

i used to think this was the only zep song that had cuss words - "hear your mother bitch about you and me" but it was really "Telling Mother Nature 'bout you and me." and "there ain't no old shit gonna happen again" was really "There ain't no old Shep gonna happen again,"
@ttulicreme I feel the same way about Uriah Heep, Just listen to Heeps acoustic gems Circus, The Park, Blind Eye, Tales & Footprints in The Snow (with John Wetton) and I'm sure you'll feel the same way. I'm a fan of both Zep & Heep. Salute!!

@mufasa20 It's not really a Bert Jansch original, just traditional material that Jimmy Page decided to claim writer's credit for. (Same deal with "Black Mountain Side", incidentally, both that and "Waggoners" are found on the same Jansch album.)

@Bushie1988 Again, this is coming from a DIE HARD zeppelin fan. Zeppelin hasn't left my CD player in years lol. I'm just saying we all need to be a little more open.
@cody31837 Bro, lady gaga IS genius. I'm a die hard Zep fan, my favorite band of all time. But if you think about it, gaga's a musical/professional genius. @Honeysucklebommie As a drummer I much prefer Keith Moon, inventive clever and much underated player.. He like Bonham was taken over by drink but whereas Moon was a lovable drunk, Bonham was a nasty drunk..
@cody31837 i hate her type of music, but for what she does, shes good, go ahed make fun of justin beiber or kesha or, really any other garbage pop "artist", just respect her caus shes good at what she does
It has to figure that one of my favorite Zep songs would be about a dog! But is just so true that isn't a truer love or purer friendship than that between a canine and their care giver/pack leader/master - best feeling in the whole wide world. It is now time to go dancing with my doggies!

Great band, Bonzo may have been a great drummer, though that is debatable, his drumming suited this band, but the more I read about him ........

@TheSjspen the more you read about him what?
BleachTW 6 months ago
@BleachTW the more I read about him the more I dislike the guy. Comes over as not a particularly nice person..
TheSjspen 6 months ago
@TheSjspen Him and Moon could probably go one on one for the title. ;-)
Honeysucklebommie 6 months ago
@Honeysucklebommie As a drummer I much prefer Keith Moon, inventive clever and much underated player.. He like Bonham was taken over by drink but whereas Moon was a lovable drunk, Bonham was a nasty drunk..
TheSjspen 6 months ago
@TheSjspen He was just a really bad drunk I heard
BleachTW 6 months ago
@TheSjspen he was nice when he was not drunk.

This is so great live. I thought this was mostly guitarless live until it showed page strumming away.

It has to figure that one of my favorite Zep songs would be about a dog! But is just so true that isn't a truer love or purer friendship than that between a canine and their care giver/pack leader/master - best feeling in the whole wide world. It is now time to go dancing with my doggies!

I wish I could play and pick like that, god damn!

This was a crowd favorite even more than Stairway to Heaven, believe it or not.
MerkinMuffly 6 months ago
@MerkinMuffly This song actually has some energy to it, and has not been overplayed like stairway.

If this song was a comment, Jim Morrison would give it a thumbs up......and then probably do some acid
