@scarred10 there's a lot more going on in the body and the mind than just calories, When my clients wants to loose weight I tell them to eat the right kind of food even if it means overeating calories. If I tell them to count everything they put in their mouths like my schooling told me, they return half starved and discouraged and wondering why they are so hungry, tired and irritated all the time.

Okay, so I started this just over a month ago. I had 14in calves. Now I have 14.5" calves.
I went at least 5 days a week and I worked out every leg muscle group. Low reps every day. I also did cardio every day (30 minutes). I lost weight, but my muscles in my legs grew. In my personal experience, it is making my muscles grow, not decrease.
Who knows? Maybe I didn't do it correctly. Either way, it did make my legs look better.
@yelenastanke What works for me is I do my leg and arm exercises every day (10-15 min regime I can do at home), even on the weekends. Perhaps you should try that?
@GoldstarBallbuster calm down! i think he means to get rid of fat and have a firm bum, saggy and those who have cellulite in there bum, this could be a solution. we all want a rounded firm ass ;D

wayne, thank you for all the info. my problem is exactly the opposite. I have been a swimmer and have a lean lower bosy (which im very happy about) but my uppse body is broader (all the weight seems to go there first). Is there anything to just train the upper body? thanks!
My knees are shot and it really messes with them if I do lunges, a little bit on squats too. Do you have any suggestions? Also what should you focus on if you'd like to most shrink your "pooch" (the little lower belly area, right above the pelvic area)

Telling someone to overtrain a muscle to destroy the muscle fibers so it's not able to rebuild, sounds like the dumbest thing I ever heard. I can not picture a womens body where that would be beneficial. Not to mention, that in the end, with less mucle mass the women will burn less calories and probably just have a higher percentage of body fat and have that skinny sloppy look.
Intake of the mineral Zinc will help to ditribute the fat in your body better, wich means you body (pear/spoon-shape) will shift to a more proportional shape
@cafeconlechegrl Same here. I avoid doing anything with added weight on my upper body for that very reason. Maybe I should go back to curls, kickbacks, and flys with 5 pound dumbbells?
I really am interested in what you have to say Wayne. I have been training consistently for many years - starting with aerobics, moving into running, adding some weights and of course now pilates. I have noticed a definite reduction in the size of my thighs and butt, however would love to make them even smaller. With a holiday and bikini looming I am definitely going to put this to the test. So this logic would work for other areas as well right? Like if I wanted to shrink my upper body namely upper back and shoulders then working those muscles daily would do that? I'm shaped like an inverted triangle so anything that could help reduce that would be very much appreciated! lol

Walking everyday for an hour is also an extremely effective way to lose weight and shrink the lower body. An hour a day, no less.
Lunges also shape up the legs and behind, both front and backward lunges. Backward lunges work especially well on shaping the behind (lifting). However, squats bulk up legs from my experience.
But the most important factor in shrinking the bottom, thighs and hips is a lower carb diet (no bread, pasta, rice etc.)
Question! I just moved to a new place that requires me to climb stairs every day. Since I climb every single day, is this the equivalent of a daily lower body workout?

@flowerbomb149 I do 40-60 mins for my morning workout. I go to a circuit gym 3 days where you do 5-10 mins on the treadmill, move to the next machine, etc. The other days I do a fitness dvd at home!

@flowerbomb149 Testimonial! - I work out 4 mornings a week and had big muscular thighs and after watching this I decided to work out 6 mornings then do sets of squats and lunges whenever I remembered to, like 5 or 6 times a day. The big muscle definition in my thighs went away after 3 days and 2 weeks on I have legs that are in proportion to the rest of me. I just bought a pair of jeans that are a size down, just because I can fit my legs in them now! I'm really impressed! (Thank you Wayne!!)
What a great video! I have always had problems building muscle in my thighs and since I did ballet, I was totally confused as to why my thighs were so thick and professional ballerinas were so thin. However, I realize now that it's because (not being a serious ballerina aiming to go professional) I didn't exercise my legs daily, only 1-3 times a week. I will try doing some lunges and squats every day and see what happens. Thanks!

last summer, I took up kickboxing- due to being very overweight and fairly miserable. But now I've stopped for several months, and I do have to start over again. But I'm going to take your suggestions. I kickboxed about 3 days a week, and noticed I started getting "man shoulders" I just felt too buff. I was toning up, but I still looked very bulky because my muscles were left to rest. I will def. try this technique. Any other exercises you'd recommend?

I was a gym "addict" for 5 yrs-worked out every second day for at least 2hrs where 1.5hr was all cardio w/very high intensity. Sometimes I went to the gym everyday, &other times even twice a day. However, my main focus WASN'T to build muscles. I wanted to be lean, which I was except my thighs. A Doctor told me that I barely have fat &in order to shrink my thighs, I need to stop/reduce working out. I haven't worked out for the past yr &now all those muscles are gradually turning into fat :| HELP!

I was on partial and full bed rest for a year. When they released me from it I realized that now I have a HUGE bum and thighs to match. How would you suggest that I "ease into" a system like this?
Wayne I have a question - I am one of those rare girls who is actually top heavy; bigger boobs, broader shoulders, and just generally a bit bigger on my upper body than my lower. I've realized I tend to work my lower body way more (running, cycling, walking etc...) because its stronger and therefore easier for me, but really my upper body is my area of concern.
My question is does the same logic apply? Over-train the upper body muscles and they will shrink?

Have you considered getting a sport science student to do a trial on this theory in a controlled study for their degree. They are often looking for something to inspire them for post grad work. It's hard to get people to listen in this day and age with just anecdotal evidence of success.
Hey I was just wondering if you did this for 6 weeks to lean your legs and such would it take away from your running ability? I do a lot of long distance running but want a smaller lower body. Would it be safe after 6 weeks to slowly move off the program and just continue running 5 days a week and also do weight training a couple times a week?

I believe this is true. I'm nutritionally healthy & fit but was put in a position where I was doing light hiking including some climbing, daily, 6 hours for about a week. Of course my legs were tired everyday but the change in the shape of my lower body was amazing. I now look for reasons to walk anywhere or use the stairs and I go for the same feeling at the gym, using low weights.

hi, I know what u mean, I've been working out and Im short so I do not want my legs to be all muscular and that is EXACTLY what happened, now I have huge muscular calves and I hate them. I dont want to go to a gym, no time but I do have a treadmill at home,3, 5 and 10 pound weights, jumprope, stepper. What do u reccomend with these, I really need to shrink my legs, esp my calves. you talk alot about shrinking muscle... what about fat? Usually, when you don't work out, you are wanting to shrink your fat, because there is little or no muscle. Does the same rule apply?

@flowerbomb149 I do 40-60 mins for my morning workout. I go to a circuit gym 3 days where you do 5-10 mins on the treadmill, move to the next machine, etc. The other days I do a fitness dvd at home!

@flowerbomb149 Testimonial! - I work out 4 mornings a week and had big muscular thighs and after watching this I decided to work out 6 mornings then do sets of squats and lunges whenever I remembered to, like 5 or 6 times a day. The big muscle definition in my thighs went away after 3 days and 2 weeks on I have legs that are in proportion to the rest of me. I just bought a pair of jeans that are a size down, just because I can fit my legs in them now! I'm really impressed! (Thank you Wayne!!)

What a great video! I have always had problems building muscle in my thighs and since I did ballet, I was totally confused as to why my thighs were so thick and professional ballerinas were so thin. However, I realize now that it's because (not being a serious ballerina aiming to go professional) I didn't exercise my legs daily, only 1-3 times a week. I will try doing some lunges and squats every day and see what happens. Thanks!

im only 5 foot and my body is such a yucky proportion it has me miserable I lose and gain weight due to my diabetes ( i was diagnosed 2 years ago i and im still not used to it) i weigh about 143 ilbs. my upper body is small especially around my ribs but my lower stomach and theighs are not so very small at all! I have THUNDER theighs and i hate them!! will this work in reducing the thickness of them?

last summer, I took up kickboxing- due to being very overweight and fairly miserable. But now I've stopped for several months, and I do have to start over again. But I'm going to take your suggestions. I kickboxed about 3 days a week, and noticed I started getting "man shoulders" I just felt too buff. I was toning up, but I still looked very bulky because my muscles were left to rest. I will def. try this technique. Any other exercises you'd recommend?

I was a gym "addict" for 5 yrs-worked out every second day for at least 2hrs where 1.5hr was all cardio w/very high intensity. Sometimes I went to the gym everyday, &other times even twice a day. However, my main focus WASN'T to build muscles. I wanted to be lean, which I was except my thighs. A Doctor told me that I barely have fat &in order to shrink my thighs, I need to stop/reduce working out. I haven't worked out for the past yr &now all those muscles are gradually turning into fat :| HELP!

Wayne I have a question - I am one of those rare girls who is actually top heavy; bigger boobs, broader shoulders, and just generally a bit bigger on my upper body than my lower. I've realized I tend to work my lower body way more (running, cycling, walking etc...) because its stronger and therefore easier for me, but really my upper body is my area of concern.
My question is does the same logic apply? Over-train the upper body muscles and they will shrink?

Have you considered getting a sport science student to do a trial on this theory in a controlled study for their degree. They are often looking for something to inspire them for post grad work. It's hard to get people to listen in this day and age with just anecdotal evidence of success.

I believe this is true. I'm nutritionally healthy & fit but was put in a position where I was doing light hiking including some climbing, daily, 6 hours for about a week. Of course my legs were tired everyday but the change in the shape of my lower body was amazing. I now look for reasons to walk anywhere or use the stairs and I go for the same feeling at the gym, using low weights.

hi, I know what u mean, I've been working out and Im short so I do not want my legs to be all muscular and that is EXACTLY what happened, now I have huge muscular calves and I hate them. I dont want to go to a gym, no time but I do have a treadmill at home,3, 5 and 10 pound weights, jumprope, stepper. What do u reccomend with these, I really need to shrink my legs, esp my calves. I refuse to wear heels and shorts or skirts cause I hate my calves, cant get them to shrink. help please
