Awesome! I live anything Todd does! Still a huge Utopia fan!!!! My favorite eta,saw them do the Initiation tour in Ohio at a small theater. Awesome!!!!
This is a KILLER performance. I've shown it to several people who only know TR though his early singles. I was looking for a video showing his guitar ability, and this seemed a fine example!
Did they do more from NAMM, or was this the only song? Regarless, I'd love to have this on DVD!
I saw the Calgary and Edmonton show. Tony was fine. The Calgary show was only the 2nd show of the tour. Tony was quite amazing. In Edmonton the very next day he was even better. He's also a really great guy too. One of my old GFs is a stick player. He signed her bass and stick in the afternoon. She flipped him her CD. After the show we were talking with him and he complimented her on one of her songs. Wish I caught the look on her face on camera. Priceless.
This lineup had actually by this point completed a cross Canada tour ( Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Toronto, Montreal) and were consistenly killer. I believe these shows motivated the "Arena" recording style. Saw all the shows and it was awesome having Levin adding his style....
awesome video...for those complaining about any of their playing (some were bashing Tony, etc), you might know what NAMM is like. For all we know, these guys probably saw each other in the hall and said, "hey, cool that you are here. I'm gonna play a song in a half an hour, you wanna sit in?" The fact that it sounds as good as it does is a testament to their continued high level of musicianship.
Love adrian actually.. maybe i dont know enough but..men in helicopters pulls my heart strings... like julian lennon's salt water... mean time... rock on todd .. see you in akron on sept 6th!!
Saw a version of this show in Edmonton. Small venue. Absolutely awesome! Ease up on Tony, people. Remember who he is. Plus, I've heard and seen Todd screw up his own songs on Letterman.
Are there any Todd Rundgren albums where he plays guitar like this? All the albums I have from him in the 1970's are pretty much pop albums with not much guitar.
Todd is a very under-rated guitarists, but I have always liked how he works the tremolo bar, and bends strings to the point of breaking! Not to mention awesome tone!

A much more real place for Tony Levin than King Crimson. I can't stand Adrian Belew!
Fripp & Bruford will always be cool though (B>0}

Wow,
There's some Philly soul for you!
Todd can cut loose for a guy that complains about his guitar playing.

And, speaking of guitar - how can anyone get such great tone as this out of a Line 6???

Try "Utopia". Todd's progressive rock outing. Lots of guitar and other good stuff.

John- try Utopia's "Oops Wrong Planet - Todd plays guitar on that a lot - and of course, his new one, "Arena".
Also - "Faithful"...it even has a great cover of Hendrix's "If Six Were Nine" LOL!

Tony Levin is not the kind of bassplayer
you would like to have with this kind of music
better to have Bill Wyman although Todd's solo was also accidently in the wrong key
so Tony did not f@#k up there but before and after!

Wow! Tony Levin REALLY doesn't know the song at all! It's weird to see a bass god so thoroughly lost.

aw c'mon.. this is a very hard one to learn, if not to play. maybe he doesn't have Something/Anything.
This was fabulous, thanks for this.

Gotta agree with ya, defunct. Tony`s all over the place, especially during the lead. Good thing he had Jesses` rhythm to watch to get him on track.
Jack Bruce and Zack Starkey with Todd on the Ringo All Star tour.. now THEY nailed Black Maria with Todd.
