hi betty when you was on the train and you showed your desert if im not mistaken you said you had a apple dumplin im not really sure if that is the correct spelling.. but anyways i was wondering if you already had a video on how to make it but i didnt see it so do you think it would be possible if you could make a video on how to make one it looks very tastey
This looks wonderful......I have been to Louisville, in fact, my mom was born in Louisville, but I've never been to Bardstown. My parents travel quite a bit and have told me how nice Bardstown is. And Betty, what is a Hotbrown? And....did the rocking of the train upset your stomach as you ate? Just wondering...for future trips with my husband! Thank you so much! Lynne
@passionateaboutmusic A hot brown is a Kentucky sandwich. I have two recipes for the hot brown sandwich in bettyskitchen. The one from the Brown Hotel in Louisville is the authentic version. No, the train did not bother my stomach at all. I highly recommend it!
My Dad would have loved this video! My Dad was a HUGH, HUGH train fan!! ;) His Dad, my Grandpa was an old railroad train Engineer!Yep, he was the 1 that drove the train and tooting that horn ; ) We have so many pics of him and his old trains he drove or "conducted?". Those trains were so cool back then. I also love trains b/c of my Dad and Grandpa. My Dad said his Dad was gone alot b/c he was traveling and driving the train across country. What a cool job! Thanks Betty that brought back memories
Yes, we had a great time. It took a little getting used to the train swaying back and forth, but the food was wonderful! Thanks for your nice comment!
Hi Betty, I really enjoyed this trip. I'm from Bardstown, that train actually passes right near where I grew up in Samuels Ky, just up from Jim Beam. I've never ridden the Dinner train, one of my sisters was the hostess back in the 80's. I hope you were able to visit the Maker's Mark distillery, which is just outside Bardstown. Did you'all eat at any of the great restaurants in town? Many serve country ham made locally.
Yes, we did go to Maker's Mark, and I uploaded a video on that trip. It was a lot of fun. We ate at the Old Talbot Tavern in Bardstown--very quaint and great food!
Hello Betty, my name is Dylan, and I'm 18 years old, and I love several of your recipes that I had my parents try out. Do you have any ideas for recipes that may utilize either Fried Turkey or Pumpkin Pie? With the Xmas season upon us, I figure I should convince them to try something new.
Thanks for your compliments on my videos. I'm really late in getting back to you, since we were on a cruise until Dec. 11. I really don't know any recipes that use the particular foods you mentioned. That's something interesting for me to figure out!
Don't worry about it, hope you enjoyed the cruise!
My family ended doing a "Finger Food Feast" instead of dealing with a turkey and everything else. It included Teriyaki Chicken Wings, Pinwheels, Stuffed Pizza Slices, Cheese & Crackers, Nachos, etc. The only real "Christmasey" meal was probably the Green Bean Caserole that my Aunt begs for each year. xD
The little sach for the lemon was a nice touch! I don't know why they don't allow children under 5--maybe afraid they will get sick, or they will be scared and cry and spoil the dinner for the other guests...I just don't know. I really enjoy your "field trip" videos. It is great to to tag along, very interesting to see your neck of the woods as they say. Please keep them coming! Thanks again.
Thanks! We really enjoyed the trip! I didn't choose the blackberry cobbler to make, because I had already uploaded one of those back in the summer when blackberries were is season here! You might want to look at that one in bettyskitchen. It is very easy to make!
You are welcome for the video! I am glad you liked it! I thought about making the prime rib sandwich, but decided on the apple dumpling instead. I will try to get to the prime rib sandwich later!
Thanks for all of your lovely comments! It's so nice getting them early in the morning here--such a bright start to the day! You are a wonderful inspiration for me, Linda!

Hi Brad! Thanks for your lovely comment about the dinner train trip! Yes, the Derby Pie that Chelsea had had chocolate chips in it--it's great! (I actually have the recipe for Derby Pie posted on bettyskitchen, if you're interested.)
ive always wanted to ride the dinner train since i was little and havent had the chance yet but this video definately made me feel like i was right there with you and your family. thanks for sharing!
Betty, that looked like lots of fun. I used to live in Williams, Arizona, home to the Grand Canyon Railway. My husband used to work for them and I have ridden on that train many times, however, they do not have a "dinner" train. When my girls were about 3 and 5 they used to have Thomas the Train visit about twice a year and that was also lots of fun. I think that Thomas travels the country at different tourist railways, you may want to look into that for Carter. Thank you!
Thank you for that information! I didn't know about the traveling Thomas railway. I definitely will look into it! Again, thanks so much for your lovely comment!
Oh that looks wonderful fun, Betty! Texas toast - now there's something I haven't had for a long time... Thanks for taking all of us on another wonderful adventure! :)
Nice trip! Thanks for the armchair ride, lol..Did u say u already done a recipe on hot brown sandwiche? I need to look that up cuz I have never heard of that before. Sorry Carter did not get to see "Thomas" but it was nice to get Chelsea to come along. Love the video, thanks to all of you!
Thanks for your nice comment! Yes, I have done a hot brown sandwich (which is delicious!), and I will be doing *the* hot brown from the Brown Hotel in Louisville in the next couple of weeks! Stay tuned...!
Thank you Betty, Rick and Chelsea for the train ride video. It was so wonderful just watching and i know u guys enjoyed yourselves. I enjoy all of your field trip and your good recipe.
I was delighted to bring you along on the dinner train! The wine train sounds interesting--10 cars, plus food and wine! Thanks for your lovely comment!
There used to be a similar dinner train in Iowa called the Star Clipper. It was only around about 5 years before they closed it. I imagine even at $40 per person (15 years ago) they had trouble making ends meet.
This dinner train has been operating about 20 years--They do charge a bit more than $40 for lunch, and dinner is even more expensive! Thanks for your nice comment!
They have one of these train rides from Cedar Park (Austin) to Burnet. Only they stop along the way by Train Robbers....on Horses and dressed up in cowboy clothes and 6 shooters.

What a lovely train! I loved Thomas the Tank Engine when I was young, and now my nephew adores it too! It's survived through the generations, just like The Wiggles, or Sesame Street!
Is that normal in the US to be served like a salad course before the rest of the meal like that? Because here in Australia, and I know in England as well, salad is served beside the meal or on the side on a separate plate at the same time as the main course...and never before as a salad course like that.

Hi Betty,
dinner train, what a classy style field trip!
something small i noticed was the lemon piece in that little 'sack' on your hubby's dish... i will copy that!
Why don't they allow children under five on the train? Makes no sense to me right now...
Maybe they're afraid that younger children may get sick by the train shaking and can't hold themselves....
btw. It's hard but, Rick's Menu would be my favorite on this one ;-)
Joseph from Germany

The little sach for the lemon was a nice touch! I don't know why they don't allow children under 5--maybe afraid they will get sick, or they will be scared and cry and spoil the dinner for the other guests...I just don't know. Rick is the fish-eater in out family. I like prim rib! Thanks for commenting! I will be away for a couple of weeks, but I will be in touch after that!
