I was mad as hell after this race, when Gordon passed Rusty with 10 laps to go. Gordon was way down in the grass almost goin into 1. Rusty was looking out for him or there could've been a nasty wreck right there!!! He let him in at the last second or Jeff would've hit Ricky Rudd who was slowed on the apron, wide open.
You honestly think Jeff would have just hit Rudd? He would have slammed into Rusty rather than hit Rudd... he was going to try and merge onto the track whether or not Rusty moved up.
did anyone ever notice steve park on top of rich bickle? also, every time i see this crash, i love how they say after about 3 replays, "someones upside down, i think it was bodine," and then they go onboard with jarrett and say, "well that shows you which car was upside down". its just funny
he said it wasnt live because it was a rebroadcast. i said it was live because it showed the wreck as it happens. in essence, no wreck is live because it has been reposted on youtube.
That's true, but when people post a tape of the original broadcast, they usually post it as "LIVE" because when SPEED and ESPN Classic replay theirs, they edit them and put their graphics in.
no they made it after the 2001 Busch race at Talladgea, Earnhardt's last win he didn't pass anyone under the yellow line. Even in the Daytona 500 in 2001 they didn't have the rule.
No. #1 Dale Earnhardt did not pass below the line in that race, most of his moves to win where up high. #2 It was implimented after Mike McLaughlin Blocked Jimmy Spencer in a busch race at talladega in 2001. The rule came into play in July at Daytona
Jarrett should have known Irwin was there, he cut down on him. Terry Labonte was the first one that got hit by Jarrett's spinning car and that made me pretty mad.
it weried dale jarrett crached in this race but ened up winning the championchip that same year.

I laughed at how long it took them to notice Jarrett flipped over

I suppose we can now say that Dale Jarrett is a Daytona legend...three 500 victories and he flipped his car.
That, and I have to say RIP to Kenny Irwin. I would've loved to have seen how his career would've evolved in Cup.

@Croco83 I agree. Unless you win plenty of races and championships, you need to flip over to be recognized. Im just waiting for Gordon...

That's what you originally said. I don't understand what you mean? They did show replays, but it was a re-broadcast of CBS' coverage.

One of the reasons why Ned Jarrett was such a great commentator. He knew what happened and didn't jump on Irwin like other commentators would have.
OlsonFan 4 years ago
no, they made the rule after dale earnhardts last win at talladega in 2000, because he passed multiple cars below the yellow line to win.

They made the rule the morning after the Busch race. I have the video of the cup race that day.

I have a quick question. Was passing below the yellow line illegal back in those days?
