Great video! Personally I dont mind your playing skills...mine are about par to what you displayed in the video. ;P
Anyways, I will be receiving my M14x in the mail tomorrow. Same specs but with 6Gb of 1600 MHz RAM. Quick overclocking question for you:
With the over clock values set to 770 core & 1540 shaders, what temperature are you operating at and would this be a set and forget solution or should it be tuned down when not gaming?
@Siri325 I personnally turn off the overclock once I'm done playing a demanding game. This way, when the graphic card is used for less demanding tasks ( HDMI out, oh HD Video Playback ), it consumes a little less.
Plus, it only takes seconds with MSI Afterburner to change the clocks of the GPU.
@Siri325 I do not record my temps, sorry. As long as it's not "shit I just cooked my hand on my computer", it's ok for me. That said, with overclock, it's hardly even hot.
You can set and forget the overclock, I think, because Optimus automatically downclocks the graphic card when it's not fully used.
That said, I turn off the OC every time I stop playing.
Hi. I'm planning on getting the 8gb ram, 2670QM 2.2GHz processor and 3gb nvidia gt 555m version of this laptop, will this run battlefield 3 smoothly on ultra settings?
@Apersonnamedbob The performances will be about the same as the ones you saw in this video. It has been said on NBR Forums that the 3Gb upgrade isn't really useful, given the fact that most games use less than 1Gb when gaming in "classic" resolutions ( 1600x900, 1920x1080, etc )
@JacobVR I don't think buying Alienware Desktops is a good solution. I remember them being way overpriced for the specs. You might wanna consider building a desktop gaming set yourself, or buy a gaming laptop if you want portability.
I really like the M14x and I would definitely recommend it !
@JacobVR Alienware m14x will definatly be able to handle todays high graphic demanding games (Skyrim, Bf3, crysis 2 ect...) and maybe 2 years in the future they will handle them on a lower setting but you might have to overclock it by then.
Hi , can you help me?.. How do you install the 285.38 beta drivers?, i mean you backup your old drivers first? uninstall it?... You know any guides? ..... Tnx 4 your answer..
Just got my m14 yesterday. Hooking it up to a HDTV looks great but on my old 24" dell monitor it sets default to 1024x768 resolution which kinda sux in windows.

Has having your laptop overclocked when gaming changed anything on your computer?

@mttogo No, it hasn't. It improved in-game performance, that's it.

How can you overclock an Alienware with MSI afterburner, I thought that stuff was exclusise to MSI Laptops! :-|
tochbomb1 3 months ago
@tochbomb1 It's not. You can download MSI Afterburner and use it to set the clocks and Memory frequencies of your GPU.
