my bearings are making a little grinding/scracthing noise. i just cleaned them and the inside where the balls roll looks dull. do i need to replace them? they're only a month old...
My Paint thinner says its low odour and its in a plastic bottle would it still work:P just wanna be sure just got my tan tien almost a month ago and i gotta clean my bearings and i finally found a bottle somewhere in my dads workshop.
Awesome i bought bones reds bearings and speed cream skate lube but i lost two of those washer bearing spacers and i was wondering if you can buy them online and also how important they are
@JamesonLB Speed washers are pretty important. They keep your wheels spinning long and it gives some relaxation to your bearings so there not so restrained. I think you can get them at any skate shop. I live in denver so i would go somwhere like bc surf and sport
I know WD40 is horrible, BUT there are no skate shops near where I live! I just ordered some Bones Speed Creme off of the internet but shipping will take 4 days... I need some sort of lube to get me through those days!! Can I get away with using WD40 temporarily? Anyone?
@loopypent When there is a lot of dirt on top of your bearings just check every now and then and if you see alot of dirt then clean everything in your bearings and lube em. Maybe once a month if you longboard pretty much daily. Also if you realise your loosing speed or you hear scratching clean them it doesnt matter as long as you dry them you can do it daily but thats useless.
hmm i have those exact vxb bearings in my blue boca tightwalls. boards been ridin a bit slow lately been tryin to find out a way to clean em bearings.
@Stoked2Longboard because it removes the dirt and grime. you can also use aecetone or mineral spirits. you can find them at any home improvement store.
i just got done cleaning bearings on my loaded changra and landyachtz switchblade, and one bearing from each board from back right wheel doesnt spin at all. what causes this? it cant be a coincedence.
One quick question? I have abec 5 greaseballs that came stock with my sector 9 BHNC and i cant pop off my ring thats on my bearing with a razor blade...are these meant to not come out? i cant get them off
@playwithmeskinler the rubber covering? well then yours should have a metal covering, get that off and then clear it, or else the dirt/dust can't come out :D (btw im not sure how to take metal shields off (youtube/google that), i have only used the rubber shields
how do you open abec-5 gravity bearings? ive already gotten them off of the board and wiped them off, but i cant open them. should i just get new ones?
Could you like possibly do a "how to" on that rack thing that holds your board because i really want to make one or even just do a vid that shows like a 360 view of it. PLEASE!
@AntSalmonn 90% alcohol, paint thinner, and bearing cleaner all do the same thing, the Bones kit just gives you a cooler way to do it. Alcohol/paint thinner is free or cheaper if you just have it lying around your house.
@dland95 I used 95% alch first, it did a good job, ubt then I used acetone (nail polish remover) afterwards on the same bearings I just cleaned and I got even dirtier fluid out of my bottle, so acetone is def the way to go
i got this speed lube for "skateboard" bearings and used it on my "longboard" and now my bearings dont spin "at all" like 1 second is this suppose to happen right after u put it on and i only put 2 drops on each side so i dont know wats wrong
Could you spin the wheel and add the lube near the nut and let it spin then wipe away all the excess grime? Would it work, or would it do nothing? Also, my longboard trucks are squeaking. What do I do? I have many other questions about this so... How do bushings go on in the proper way? Just take off the truck and add the bushings and the washers or whatever there called on either side, then put in the kingpin? Please respond. How often do I need to do maintenance? Thanks.
About that squeaking, is it when you lean and turn on your board? If so, this usually just requires a pivot cup lubrication(something thick like vaseline). The pivot cup is the small black ring that you can see which is closer to the deck. Its pretty easy, wipe it out with with qtips then apply a small amount of lubricant to th entire inside of the cup. dont try to remove the cup.
im working on some Abec5 sector9 bearings and i cant seem to get the shield off is there a way that i can get it off the bearing is in bad sorts and refuses to spin whatsoever at this point, im afraid to break the shield at this point so if i could get some advice that would be pretty awesome thanks
@hollandben35 Try using a thin knife or something to pry it off. Some of the shields actually have grooves in them to keep the balls bearings in place, almost like a crown upside down, with the balls filling the grooves. So you have to try different spots to pry from around the shield
99% isopropyl alcohol works if you can not find paint thinner. but make sure it is 99% because anything less then that can leave moisture in your bearings and rust them.
@allen2688 It's a cover of "Kids" by MGMT. Or do you mean you want to know who did the cover? ...Cause I don't know, lol. maybe someone else can answer.
@Mekhael12 Don't ever clean your bearings. Then, right before the Broadway Bomb, get new bearings.

Ha. I just cleaned my bearings on my bustin cigar exactly like this video said(except I used nail polish remover like you mentioned below). By the way, i love this board man. keep it up bustin.
@Cookmonster789 hey man, WD40 is Water Displacing compound #40. It is made to get rid of water and then it evaporates. Putting WD40 in your bearings will clean them out, but leave them dry and un-lubricated. It will also deteriorate Urethane if it comes into contact with it, so it can damage your wheels as well... dont use WD40 kids...
I bought bones Swiss 6 competition skate bearings recently from Amazon and they say it takes about an hour of riding until they break in.
