  • The flight series during Shannon's Team Final beam routine is the most flawless one I've ever seen. Just incredible.

  • what was the grade of dominique's routine???

  • Shannon ripped beam every time she touched it...she won her gold fair n square..n it was well deserved

  • DID HE SAY GOOD JOB LITTLE PIGGY?

  • @snofagun1814 i think so...

  • @Soccerchic1097 hopefully its just a pet name, if not I can see why she ended up hating Bela....

  • I'm a 90's gymfan...always thought Miller was great on beam

  • Little Moceanu brought the devil down to Georgia - it started right after her and Kerri and others tried to hotwire the tractor at the ranch and ended up setting an ostrich on fire.

  • when shannon does her beam routine, the music in the background is a jewish song, we sing it in temple all the time :)

  • I hate how the reporters keep saying "What did the coaches say to these American women?" It's not the coaches who are doing the flips and twists! They mighta given them an encouraging pep talk, but it's the gymnasts who are doing the amazing hard work, not the coaches!

  • whoa, Dominique needs to point her toes on that straddle jump! haha lovely routine though

  • Dominique's mount is so cool.

  • And then, when Gina takes a half-foot step: "That's a HUGE step on the landing, John, that'll cost her at LEAST two-tenths."

Then when Shannon almost stumbles off the podium and into the concession stand: "That's a TEENY step on the landing - we'll have to see how the judges score it."

At least Elfie has her patriotic priorities straight.

  • i've seen some comments on the commentators, and while they are definitely annoying, the tendency to "nitpick" isn't wrong. it's exactly what the judges do, and anyone who doesn't know that has never competed. the judges don't look for why a routine or particular skill is good; they look for what's wrong with it. the number of vaults you see that are nearly perfect but still receive deductions (think vintage courtney mccool or even young shannon miller) are a great example of this fact.

  • We all understand that. It's not the words as much as the tone and the absolute intensity, particularly with Elfie.

  • @kaysweets02 Exactly. Way too much pearl-clutching on these boards. The commentators are there to explain to us why a gymnast might've been scored a certain way. So many gymnastics fans take it way too personally and whine about the coverage.

  • Holy crap!

Dominique's balance beam stunts were insane.

  • Man...Bella must of been really abusive to her....it seems to me that he was always there for her and they had a close relationship from all the videos.

  • I seriously doubt he was abusive. My guess is, like it was with Nadia when she "matured," she started having her own ideas, and you don't have to live with Bela to know that in his world, there are only two kinds of ideas: his, and everybody else's. Dominique resented it, and Bela, like a mountain, wouldn't budge. I'm sure it went something like that.

  • All I can think about when I watch clip is how Dominique wrote that Bela was the Grinch of her 2008 Olympic experience on her blog. I can't believe she wrote that. It was totally hilarious...the grinch. lollololol

  • I just found her blog and read that part. She sounds like an ingrate. Bela MADE her, and she knew it back in "the day." Now she makes fun of him. I love Dominique during these Olympics and the meets leading up to them, but I don't have much use for her after that.

  • @mka800 You didn't train with him. You don't know her story. Nor do I. Bela "made" her, wtf? No. She had incredible talent--any decent coach would've done likewise (& maybe she wouldn't have done that crappy cutesy dance stuff for which Bela's gymnasts were notorious). She has every right to tell her story the way she sees it, especially since she's not exactly a lone voice in the wilderness--other gymnasts have corroborated her. This is not to say she's right, just that we DON'T KNOW her story.

  • Simona Amanar's FX music was my favorite of these games.

  • mine too...to bad her music was drowned out by all the screaming because China was respectful to us at the olympics

  • Well, needless to say Americans aren't known for their respect in situations like this. It's all about kill, destroy, win, win, win, us first, us only. There's a channel here that has the recordings of Milo's and Simona's floor music.

  • Me too. I would have rather seen that than watch the little piggy on teh beam. Milo's music was very exciting too. But Simona's was great. There's a channel here that has some of the girls' floor music - just the music, recorded. Simona's is on there. I listen to it a lot just to get happy.

  • Lol! That's what I thought he said. Little piggy??? What?? That's kinda funny..lol

  • He called her a donkey AND a piggy, then somebody like Joan Ryan writes a book and calls it abuse.

  • What was Bella telling Dominue afterwards??

  • I think Bela was so excited he got delusional. He said, I only felt so miserable. Excellent, little donkey. Good job! Good job, little piggy. Youre 12 now, is that right? (And Dominique is shaking her head, like "Yeah, right, whatever you say.") Yes, yes yes! All right! All right! Wooo!"

  • gotta "love" the comments: when any other gymnast hops on the landing they comment on it. not a word though about the americans when they hop. talk about fair play and unbiased comment

  • Exactly boggydance! They pull up all of the other athletes for taking a step on landings ignoring the fact that the USA gymnasts do it every other time.

Remind me how many other times USA has won the team gold.....?! NONE!

  • i hear them criticize everyone for steps, including US. especially in beijing. it got so nitpicky at one point i muted the TV

  • @Eugenie404 China -once, Russia-never since the split of the USSR, Ukraine-never...and the commentators cream the American's too. Especially the men!

  • No shit. Here's how it would go.

Elfie: "Here comes Marinescu's back sommersault . . . ah-oh, John, she wiggled her left to, that's gonna cost her. It's something she's done a million times in practice, but the pressure of the Olympics can get to just about anybody, even Marinescu, who is usually a very good gymnast."

  • Yes, John, we know they're hot, but can you please talk about their gymnastics?

  • bella! ya gotta love him!

  • Other than the dismount where would you have taken the deductions?

  • I love Dominique's mount!

  • In my opinion Shannon wasn't boring just consistent. No drama, just got the job done. Nothing wrong with that.

  • @heyginny I agree. There wasn't anything flashy about her, she was very workman-like. But like you said, she got the job done.

  • That's no reason not to like someone. Kim in 92 had a good personality, but folded under pressure.

  • SHannon Miller boring? It's called flawlessly classic.

  • cool, but not excellent!

  • I love the audiences' shock at dominique's beginning of her beam! It was awesome.

  • Wendy Bruce had a similar beam mount in the 92 games in Barcelona.

  • what was dominique's scoree?

  • Her score was a 9.85.

  • I just want to say that, well, for one I am a Canadian and am NOT in gymnastics. I'm a dancer, but not a gymnist. I remember watching the '96 olympic very, very well. I watched and cheered on the us team. Everything they did was spot on. They were truely AWESOME that year and deserved that gold ten times over!

  • This girl is by far the most consistent us womens gymnast ever!!!

  • wich one??

  • shannon miller probably.

  • Well yeah, no one else compares. Except maybe Svetlana, but she's not American.

  • Dawes...
