  • Agreed...............I think Lars and Barker and Chad Smith are over rated and just plain average

  • They cut it off when he was starting to wreck shit!

  • 40'S SOMETIME. I DON'T PICK IT APART. VERY RARE TOO ME. BUDDY WAS AND INNOVATOR.AND PLAYED DRUMS TOO ME VERY DICSIPLINED AND WAS A FOCUSED MAN ON THAT SNARE DRUM THE CORRECT WAY.SNARE, BASS DRUM, HI HAT WHAT ELSE DO YOU NEED. REALLY???? A RIDE CYMBAL? EXTRA

  • WTF! He actually WHERE young once!

  • I honestly dont like jazz. . . AT ALL. But Buddy Rich is a large exception. :)

  • not even moby dick can compare

  • 4against1 - are you kidding ? .... They don't come close to Buddy. Those 2 aren't even the best today. If you listened to more of a varity of music you would know that. You need to get out more.

  • my ears just exploded with joy

  • Dave Lombardo was very influenced by Buddy Rich...as am I now! :^D Very entertaining!

  • in today lars ulritch and travis barker are the best drummers

  • @4against1 HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! thats a fuckin joke.... your not an idiot for saying that just extremly ignorent and should talk

  • Comment removed

  • @4against1 GET THE FLYING FUCK OFF BR VIDEOS YOU DUMB FUCKING CHILD. BARKER IS A FAGGOT AND ULRICH IS NOWHERE NEAR AS GOOD. MY FUCK LEARN TO COMPARE.

  • @4against1 I think Lombardo is still my favorite metal drummer, Neil Peart my favorite progressive rock drummer, and Vinnie Colaiuta my favorite all around studio and guest drummer. No offense to 4against1, but ulrich and barker just put me to sleep. They're competent, I guess. I heard that Buddy Rich had a heart attack once while playing a song, and he didn't stop playing until the song was over! My uncle was a jazz and big band drummer and his favorite was Shelly Manne.

  • i'm trying to find out the name of the song that this solo is from, can somebody help me

  • what does the man in front say ? He probably says I can play drums way better than him.

  • BRAAAAAAAAAVOOOOO BRAVISIMO UNA BESTA EL ABUELO!!!1

  • I don't know why everyone's making a big deal about Buddy playing match grip. Yeah, he said people that 'played match grip were holding their sticks wrong,' but he's Buddy Rich. It's only wrong when OTHER people do it. :P

  • i saw a clip where buddy said he hates matched grip.

well he certainly knows how to play it, and proves it is

just as good as traditional grip. the fastest hands ever!!!!

  • You know I sometimes wish I was musically ignorant and I didn't have to listen to such beautiful music, because who can I discuss it with? I love Kathleen Ferrier, Pav, early Elvis, Jerry Lee, Muddy Waters, Bessie Smith, Etta James, and as a result am reduced to putting these comments on here just to, hopefully, get a response, Oh, by the way I am a normal guy, not suicidal about it but would love to chat about MUSIC with anyone.

  • I recall hearing Buddy mention that it only made sense to use a matched grip when playing the timpani. In this song he seems to be playing all floor Toms like a timpani. maybe that's why?

  • TIMPANI STYLE I BELIEVE MR RICH

  • BUDDY AND SINATRA GAVE ME A LUDWIG SET FOR MY BIRTHDAY THE CARD WAS DEAR PHILLY HAPPY BIRTHDAY GO FUCK YOUR SELF HA HA UNCEL FRANK AND UNCEL BUDDY THAT IS HOW IT WAS THE BEST PEOPLE I EVER NEW IN MY LIFE SEE THE SET ON YOUTUBE SINATRA AND PHIL AMBROS I ONLY PLAYED IT ONE TIME IT NOW IS IN MY SHOWROOM JUST TO LOOK AT..PHIL AMBROS

  • BUDDY RICH WAS MY BEST FRIEND AND YOU WILL NEVER SEE A DRUMMER LIKE BUDDY IN YOUR LIFE TIME OR THE NEXT SEE THE DRUM SET BUDDY AND SINATRA GAVE ME I STILL CANT BELIVE BUDDY WAS MY BUDDY WHAT LUCK MR DRUMS PHIL AMBROS

  • No words......

  • wow match grip.. he is the MASTER!!!

  • One of my all time favorite Buddy Rich solo's. Of course, that is a bit of an oxymoron where Buddy is concerned, since they were ALL the best. I can't believe someone finally uploaded this, as I was going to, since, at the time, I hadn't seen it around. I might, just to pay homage to the master.

  • God,...I love Buddy.....and his student Sandy Nelson.

  • that couple seems to dig it

  • saxophone player far right at 1:35 pretty much sums up my face though the whole thing

  • @20CJNL06 Lol....

  • @20CJNL06 HAHAHA

  • Actually, the most amazing part about this is that he's WEARING A FRIKKING BLAZER!!!

Who drums this well while wearing a suit and tie?!?!

  • THIS IS INCREDDIBLE

he's not crying like Oh my drumkit is with single braced legs or my toms are mounted on my bassdrum.

he don't even need a special microphone kit to have a good sound

he is just playing a great solo much better than the drummers today.

  • Lol, yup never see buddy with that match grip before. Ayways, if you look in the back, the guy at to the right is just looking prolly thinking: "The Fu*k!?"

  • Love the sound of those Toms. They sound so fat and huge. But what do expect with a player like Buddy Rich on the throne. A true master of the drumskins. Class.

  • Buddy playing with MATCHED GRIP!

  • @29dave I think it's because he's pretty much playing the set like timpanis, which are played with matched grip. if there were more on the snare I'm sure he'd be playing traditional.

  • @knickerbocker191 I know, but it's just funny because there's another Youtube video of Buddy talking about how matched grip is inferior. Type BUDDY RICH MATHCED GRIP into the Youtube search box, it's the first video result.

  • @29dave GOTTA play matched when youre playing such a jungle-y, primitive sounding solo and tune.

  • @infantfinite That might be true, but it's funny because if you do a search on "Buddy Rich matched grip" you can see a video in which he denigrates matched grip...

  • @29dave HAHA Yeah i've seen that, Buddy was always an interesting guy.

  • @29dave He's doing it because he's playing mostly on the floor tom at the beginning. He believed that it's a better technique for doing rolls on timpani lower tuned drums.

  • @ThyArtIsDeathcore timpani or lower tuned drums *

  • @29dave yeh Dave, unusual, huh?!

    Buddy was the best!

  • @tubejmmer True, and true

  • @29dave

    unheard of back then.

  • now thats how a big band should be set out, drums with an excellent player at the front, not back

  • como tocan!! me mata la cara de impresionado del saxofonista de la derecha!!!

  • i know he is fast and a pioneer of drumming and all the rest but ive never been that fussed about buddy rich
