Ukraine would be far better off aligning itself with Russia. The Russian economy is backed by vast quantities of natural resources which the EU actually depends on (natural gas, oil for example). Since Ukrainians and Russians share similar language and culture and other close bonds, it makes sense. The EU has been badly caught out in the global financial crisis, a crisis that Russia will be able to ride with fewer problems. The Russian bear is awakening, best to be allies with it not piss it off
well it looks like recently, the crisis is going by far more severe and long in Russia then in western Europe. Ukraine would be far better off aligning itself with Russia. The Russian economy is backed by vast quantities of natural resources which the EU actually depends on (natural gas, oil for example). Since Ukrainians and Russians share similar language and culture and other close bonds, it makes sense. The EU has been badly caught out in the global financial crisis, a crisis that Russia will be able to ride with fewer problems. The Russian bear is awakening, best to be allies with it not piss it off

well it looks like recently, the crisis is going by far more severe and long in Russia then in western Europe. Unfortunately it is not a good things for Ukraine and rest of the eastern Europe since usually outside people don't bother to distinguish between us :-). Anyway one good thing is that cash deprivated Russia is not going to use natural resources to political play they will sell to everyone and much cheaper then now. That would help Ukraine to overcome crisis soon I hope.

well :-) please don't confuse political show with hard economical reality. Island is doing that show to pressurize other more reliable lenders. Whatever Ukraine is far larger country then Island definiltly Russia has no money to help Ukraine especially that right now they have to help themself.

Where did you get that 50% quote? For me it is pure propaganda. Anyway as one of the Ukraine neighbor, I think Ukrainian should decide by themself what they want. Until Russia would realize it and treat Ukrainians as equal partners Ukraine would drift away for them.

We Russians have no problem with Ukraine being Sovereign(although its killing them) but we are against Ukraine joining NATO. Because we don't want a military bloc right by our border that is still a threat to our security, and we will use force if we have no other choice, we will do whatever it takes to beat any enemy.

Well Putin as everybody knows Russians only inhabit the eastern parts of Ukraine around Donetsk,not the west of the country.Just because some ethnic Russains live there doesn`t mean Russia has to push it`s weight around.The west isn`t Russophobe just phobic of Putin and puppet Medevedev.We have been allies in two great wars don`t forget and i have no real anti feelings to your country,i was pleased to see Russia free from communism,and see the old Russian tricolour restored as the national flag

First of all, i repeat, you don't have a slightest idea of what the relations between Russians and Ukrainians is. This is one nationality, not two. I am not going to argue with you about this matter, this is pointless.
And second, assuming you're a Britt, we have never been allies in ANY war. We had common enemy for some (small) historical period, thats all. I can tell you the secret - this period started after the beginning of WW2 and ended long before the end.

Ukraine is an independent country it can do as it wishes, Russia has internal problems it needs to address. Such as a population decline of 600,000 a year. If you are not careful China will take the far east and half of Siberia away from you!

The population decline in Russia is much steeper than that, and there are already some 5-10 million Chinese living in the Far East already. The Chinese will eventually take over the local governments and then the whole Russia.

Yes, Now that oil has come back down. Russia will have a balance of payment issues. Thier growth was funded by borrowing on future oil profits, those profits just declined by 2/3. Putin says Russia has 800 billion right now, they will blow through that in a year. Russia has major problems....

It is now transparent! The US Treasury (Greenspan is a genius) staged all this world crisis to destroy its foes... economically. Yes, the Russians, the Iranians, Venezuela, you name them, are all in deep waters, and, boy, is cold down there, is cold and loneley. The people will start revolts (financed by the US) and the Chavez, Putin, A'djean governments will be replaced. Not a single bullet spend, not a shot fired.

This is a great example why bullying a country just doesn't work. You honestly think that by invading post soviet states Russia will somehow retain control of them? If anything, the entire Georgian incident pushed these ex soviet states toward the west and away from Russia.
