as was mentioned earlier, you cant disable the vehicle w/o giving consideration to where the vehicle is, the danger the suspect might pose to others in respect to population, hazard to traffic, potential for a shootout (if suspect is armed) etc. Serious liability issues need to be checked off. So in the real world, away from Internet keyboards, situational awareness is paramount.

They should just disable and lock it 2 seconds after it's been started. That could EASILY be hardwired into the car, along with a hardwired alert to nearby cops; and it should be baited in such a place that would be a reasonable place for the arrest.

What could EVER be the point of allowing the guy to drive around in the car--if he started it, he stole it.

If there's a legal need for movement, it could be stopped after first reaching 3mph--again, easily pre-programmed.

In my opinion, I think it would be much safer to disable the vehicle of an armed suspect rather than have him plow people down in a truck at full speed. It should be stopped immediately regardless of where the truck is at. Man, there could've been an old lady or kids crossing the street.

And to solve that issue why dont you disable the vehicle befor it gets to speed.

Breaking in and starting the vehicle should be proof enough that there is a theft in progress.
