I have both bikes. I'm 50, my son is 17. We're both beginning riders. The sv has an "easier" clutch/gearbox; the ninja is better up high. The sv is a wannabe crotch rocket; the ninja is more comfortable-except for the seat. The sv hurts my arms; the ninja hurts my butt. The ninja is a fantastic 1st bike for me. I absolutely love it. It's a really good bike for @ $7000.
Hey I am debating between this and the ninja 650r as my first bike but my problem is the riding position... I sat on both and realized the sv650's "forward lean" position gave it more characteristic to it. I haven`t rode any of them yet. But I felt comfy on the sv650 just by sitting in it but will that change when i ride? Also is there an advantage to either riding position besides personal comfort? Thanks in advance!
@NoKozak Well now ive got my own big bike.. No, i wouldnt, Ive got a 600cc Hornet and it rips the living crap into the SV650, the 0-60 is faster and thanks to the rev ranges, top speed is higher and gets there faster.. But now i only have 2 friends with SV650s, the other 2 lost theirs.. Anyway, i prefer inline 4's to V's
Exact same as my sv!!! I still have original can on mine though..Was thinking about getting a viper.. Would go for an oval though... Is that a 00 one??
that can is aftermarket, which one is it? there is no tag. I have the stock exhaust on mine still and I recognize an aftermarket can on an SV a mile away :)
@DistemperpK There is a bit more. The ridding position is diffrent and gearing is diffrent to. The S version has higher pegs and lower bars, other gearing for a little more top speed. Thats all :)

nice vid. great sound. Maybe you should check you Timing chain and tighten it. It will stop the clicking sound.

@TotalVikingPower
They have automatic cam chain tensioners that end up noisy, but are dependable and besides being annoying don't do any harm.

This bike looks brand new and yet it has the fairings of a 2003... weird.

this bike has a LOT of torque, the top speed is very low compared to other bikes in its class but its enough unless you wanna drag race
