Very nice system ! Thumbs up !! Well i have this system:
Core I7 860, as for now its at 3075 MHZ. - stock cooler.
750W PSU
8GB Kingston hyperX 1600mhz
Asustek Sabertooth 55i Motherboard
And a GTX 275 GPU.
It runs smooth for now. BUT i am soon planning on buying the GTX 480 and a Water cooler for the CPU, and overclocking to 3,6 Ghz ish.. Does that sound like a good system?
LOL this is so amateur. First the hitachi hdd ... likw wtf?!? why would anyone that would buy an i7 go with hitachi. And second why would you buy a 750w power source for a i7 and 4770??????!?!!???! That ps is soooo overpowered for that eco system. A Corsair HX with 450 -550W would be like double the needed power.
FSFchaneel "I own two 1TB Hitachi Deskstar hard drives. They both failed within a month."
1. Need i say more? WD ftw.
2. It's your money, invest how you wish but a bigger psu will consume more. Better a more efficient and safer (more protections) one. If ure gonna upgrade like to a quad crossfire then go buy it. I know one thing. Corsair 550VX= i7, 5 120 mm fans, 5 HDDs, 4850X2 croosfire. NO PROBLEM!!! NONE, ZERO! And it;s crossfire certified on amd site. 90 US$
what do you guys think about the Asus P55 motherboard? Do you think it's reliable? I have the motherboard and I have been using it for about a month now and I am kind of having some problems with it, my usb connections some times just disconnect. The motherboard will just stop recognizing my usb peripherals temporarily. Do you think it's cause a hardware problem because asus is not reliable with their motherboards or do you think its a software problem.
i was about to get the EVGA FTW but im now getting the P7P55D-E Deluxe because of USB 3.0 and SATA 6GB/s, im getting the same CPU the i7 860, and OCz Platinum DDR3 1333 memory... i have an ATI radeon 4670... and the same PSU... you think my build is good enough to play Crysis at High and COD 6 @ max?
yeah, I don't give a damn about the specifications. Specifications are different from the specific chip's individual limits. I've had it up to 1.41 for at least 3 months, and it's still fine. I'll see how long it takes for it to destroy the chip. I bet I'll wait all year for it to break, and it wont.
@armetron change gpu to a 5870 or 5850..rams could be bettter if corsair or patriot...both are top in the market..case..id prefer HAF 922 or 932 by CM..just dont buy the spedo..i get lots of complains about their HD autoconnect gimick..and also...mobo..as of now FTW..is MSI p55 gd80..or maximus 3 by intel..both are just closely around 200 bucks..and are extremely stable
@armetron its pretty good...but i would have really prefered u getting the 5xxx series from ati...they are monster cards right now..and are real bang for the bucks without going past the 450 dollar margin..except for the 59xx...but anyways..like said..your system is A-OK in my book..8/10 but since its your first..9/10
@jaja1818 thank you and I will consider purchesing the video card you said but for now since I just bought this one I will use it and see if I encounter any problems
@jaja1818 yesterday I opened the GTX graphic card yesterday and it had missing parts so I send it back and bought the Radion HD 5870. thx for the recommendation.
sure thing..be sure to do fresh install of OS..and u may experience text desktop blurring after playing games and such..the card is fairly new..and sure new drivers soon will fix this..dunno if blurred text happens on XP though..am using w7 ult..and only desktop test become blurry..so i just raise my taskbar and put most used programs icons there..hehe..makes my desktop look very clean that way..simple work around
I bought this system before the 5000 series were out. This isn't my main rig, and I don't play games that much. And the games I do play, run fine on my main build.
I used a canon powershot uh.. I'm not sure what specific model. Upload process? I just uploaded it using youtubes upload function. if that's what you're asking.
Thank you for your help. I typed out a long comment but it did not post :(. Long story short you helped me a lot. Choosing between a i7920 and a 860 going from a dual core 2.6. And having support for large cards in crossfire. You helped make my choice with an in depth review on both processors. Im going with an i7860 (yay Lynnfield) and a MSI GD80. yay for OC GENE! BTW. this is my gaming pc. I like to run things on high btw :P. COD,CRYSIS,css,MMO's etc. Thanks for the help. Add me :P
I'm still wondering how you can afford all those computers and what you would need them for after you are done testing since you have so many quality systems.
I use my 860 system to browse the web usually, but I've got to keep it to compare newer graphics cards / cpus with my LGA-1366 setup. (e.g. 5870 with a i7 920 vs a i7 860)
In your opinion, would it be better to get a Core i7 860 or wait for the Core i5 750? I just want it for general tasks and some casual gaming and video editing.
I'd get a i5 750 (its already out...probably what you meant maybe) . 860 isn't really worth the cash imo. A lot of people I know have gotten the 5850 + i5. That's the BEST setup you can get for your cash. they basically are married to each other.
If you are serious about video editing, a i7 920 would be the best choice. (if you've got enough cash)
lol. I was so focussed on the i7 that I forgot that the i5 came out at the same time...
Anyway, as I said, it would only be casual video editing. Anything that is significantly better than my Pentium D 2.8GHz would be good enough for me. After effects is really laggy on my comp if you know what i mean..
hello, I was wondering if you felt a great difference in performance between the i7 860 with the dual channel memory and the i7 920 with the triple channel?
I can't decide whether the 920 is worth the extra bucks on the motherboard.
Well, I didn't really notice the difference In most applications (including games). But when it came to benchmarks and 3d/video rendering, it seemed like the 920 won.
I can really overclock much further on my 920 than I can on my 860. The 860 is only seen to get about 4.2 GHz @ 1.4 Vcore. My 920 goes to 4.5 @ 1.4 Vcore, which is much better.
(don't worry, i ran the tests with both @ same clocks)
I would go for a 920, they're both about the same price if you build it right. Its worth it.
I have a little question. Im about to buy some new computer parts and Im stuck at the choice of the 920 and 860. The price is the same and what Ive seen it is the same but the motherboard for the 860 is alot cheaper. Any edvice?
Get the 920, i love mine. However, a core i5 is a very smart move if you want to same some cash. with that saved cash, you might be able to buy a 5850 or something!
Ive seen the i5 but the price here is the same. So I rather go with the 920 then. But the motherboards are so expensive. Do you think this moderboard for the 920 will support the new ones that come out?
very nice, I have the exact same setup from TigerDirect, except I'm running the EVGA GTX 260 core 216 Superclocked. And I added a second 4GB ram kit. I'm not overclocked yet though, so kudos there mate. Have you used tried out the little board that comes with the motherboard for overclocking?
i just bought the same setup(except for the psue and gpu) and my main concern is the heatsink, i dont want to use intels shitty heatsink but i cant find any 1156 coolers.
waiting for the new x chipset series is the best thing to do as i believe it will support triple channel memory and the LGA 1156 and the i7 860 is alot better than i7 920
i7 920 is actually a worse chip than the i7 860 - but the X58 chipset will allow triple channel memory. If you don't care about that, then the P55 chipset will end up being a better bang for your buck.
Nobody who games would want a i9 unless they benchmark, games don't quite use 6 threads, and for the i9, 12 threads. (12 logical,6 physical; hyperthreading)
He'd be better off with a Core i5 750, best bang for anybodys buck
You'll love yours! I would recommend a i5 instead, its the same but without HT.. and 90 dollars cheaper. Either way, if you got the 860 or not, you'll love it.
Yeah, they don't beat the 900 series, but they/ are sure damn close. Why did you get a 965 anyway/, /do you overclock /or what/, if not, what a waste.
great system you have there.
but i think you should of gone for the i7 870 instead.
Angelus246x 1 year ago
@Angelus246x
why? that's more expensive... I can easily overclock my 860 to and past the 870's speed and get the same (if not better) results.
I have a x3440 as well and that is better than both as I've seen in my results
FSFchannel 1 year ago
@FSFchannel True I overclocked mine 860 to 4.0Ghz and it runs great! I don't see why the 870 is so expensive!

2. It's good to buy larger PSU ratings because it leaves room for good upgrades.

I own two 1TB Hitachi Deskstar hard drives. They both failed within a month. This earned Hitachi deskstars the "hitachi deathstar" name..
in short, just avoid hitachi. A lot of HDDs are known to fail.

it's like saying a i7 975 is faster than a i7 920, lets ignore the price.
The i7 860 is better, but if you're gaming and not using applications that use 8 threads, then there really isn't a point in having a i7 860.

You'll love yours! I would recommend a i5 instead, its the same but without HT.. and 90 dollars cheaper. Either way, if you got the 860 or not, you'll love it.
