That's not the correct way to adjust the handbrake. For god's sake make sure the rear brakes are not binding after this procedure or you'll boil your brakes resulting in no pedal pressure and no brakes, you will have a serious accident for sure!
@motokev Remove the console and you will see a little tab on the handle which pushes in the switch to turn off the light. If it is pushing in the switch all the way and you are having problems then it is a good bet the switch is faulty.
I have an issue with my emergency brake in my 1996 Saturn SL2. After I engage it, if I even remotely bump into it or tap it, it disengages. Have you ever heard of that happening, richpin06a? It's kind of dangerous since I park on an incline and all.
richpin06a - I have a toyota tacoma (1996).my parking brake works, but when i release my brake, the brake light stays on sometimes. If if push on the lever the light turns off. but if i hit a bump it comes on again. Do you have any suggesions????1
thanks for your videos - they have been a great help. The button to release my parking brake is broken on my 99 SL2. Do I need to remove the entire parking brake from the floorboard to replace the white plastic rod, spring and button? Wasn't sure if there was an easier way. Thanks.
Wow, you sure keep your car clean Richpin! I wish I could train myself to keep my car as clean as yours. I love your videos, I've learned a great deal from them. Thanks a bunch!
hilarious! i asked my mechanic how involved it would be for him to adjust my parking brake a few months ago and he went into a long story about how they have to lift the car in the air and everything. i declined at the time, but it shows how ignorance can really cost you lots of time, money and aggravation. thanks richpin for educating me on my saturn! very grateful, here.
I believe on this car the parking brake is adjusted at the equalizer nut which is located under the floor. You have to get the vehicle up in the air and get underneath to get at it.

If the EL brake light won't turn off, can you adjust the E.B. handle to turn the light off. sometimes the light goes off.

Could you do a tool lesson?

Was that a Snap-On Screwdriver? I've seen you mostly use Craftsman Ratchets and such 'til now. Do you use any Park Tools on your bikes? ^_^
