  • played snare for this is grade nine, love this song

  • I freakin' love this song, I played it during my freshman texas all region concert, nd it was an amazing experience :)

  • Wow. I had the alto sax solo in the beginning of this song when our band played it for our 8th grade spring concert back in 1999!!! I still love this song!

  • This is such a powerful song! For me it states closer to the past and new beginnings to the future. I just love it. It gives me goose bumps every time I hear it. Thank you for posting!

  • My eighth grade band class is playing that (i play bassoon)

  • Ahh, my eigth grade band is playing this for A competition we have in Jackson, New Jersey. But then we go to Sixflags to celebrate.. So its all good ;)

  • lolz me too!!

  • but than again George usually mess up. =p

  • lolz same here =P

  • I remember playing this back in high school...over 11 years ago. never gets old!

  • we're playing this along with To Dance In The Secret Garden by Robert Smith, Prelude and Fugue, Diversion No. 5 by Conley, and others...

  • geeze, Ive played so much swearingen.

    It never gets old though.

  • i played this last month great songg. i play snare.. i love the percussion solo at 42.

  • OMG were playong this song on our 8th grade band this year

  • I played it in eight grade too.

  • Same xD Just got it, and we are aceing it.

  • me too. i just played this for my 8thy grade band for a concert.

  • lol i play this song . I am in 8th grade. I play tambourine.lol

  • LOL XD srry, is tht evn a real, official instrument for a concert band? hahhaa, i bet yer good at it tho! (:

  • its kinda hard to mess up if ur awake, lol

  • LOL, haha, truu XD

  • The best James Swearingin song is Eiger. We played it last year and it blew everyone away

  • こんな速い曲だったっけ?

    ちょっと走りすぎのような

  • wow...i havent heard this song in a long time...i had played this song back in the 8th grade and to my suprise we played it freakin' badass...ours was slightly different but mostly in the ending which for me was tiring.

  • but then we have 150 people in our 9th grade band :P

  • sigh... were playing this in band (9th grade band) and were perfect at it... after a week... were moving on)

btw, im 1st trombone... go trombones :P

  • thanks for uploading this vid.

but my solo is not here

    the bass clarinet

  • Ah yeah, we played this last year in our high school band. It was fun. Also, this year we were warming up on a piece called "Majestia", which is also by James Swearingen, and it sounded suspiciously similar to Novena. Coincidence?

  • You're first trombonist has amazing dynamic control...I play tenor sax for my band, and I know how easy it is to start drowning everyone out in the solos...Kudos to you

  • 低音がんばらなきゃなぁ

  • fucking amazing

  • rocks!

  • They are very good.

  • This was my most favorite piece cuz it was easy and MUCH FASTER.

  • a little fast but pretty good

  • It supposed to be that fast. I played this in 10th grade and again in college. We played it that fast.

  • Percussion kinda overpowered band when they came in...

  • Damn. Compared to my schools band, this band plays the the slow parts EXTREMELY slow and the fast parts way faster. The timpani needed to be louder in my opinion. I'm the timpanist in my school band, and I bang the hell out of them.

  • My post below when I said "roflmao" was supposed to be a response to a later comment. Sorry!

  • I might ask the director if my friend who plays tenor sax can play the transposed version of the solo.

  • My band has only three french horns and no trombones, so you can't even hear the horn/trombone solo in our band.

  • I played this in 6th grade, the trumpet is hard.

  • you need a piccalo ( i know i spelled it wrong) it really helps. I play flute in my band and we're playing this now one of my favriote songs I ever played.

  • We are playing this in band. Wow the bari sax part (my part) has really long notes that I have to hold.

  • lol I know! The bass clarinet has them too.

  • nice job

  • oh man the percussion at around 2:40 killed you guys

  • I play that in my music class with ease.

  • Brings back lots of memories from high school in the mid-90s! I played Trumpet 2 for this piece. Last time I heard this song was when we played it at the Class of 1995 graduation.. Wow. It's been that long ago.

  • Excellent, and as for the song Novena, it is teh epics

  • 3:11, ouch.

  • Why do Asians like to play this song? This is like Coca-Cola for school bands in Japan.

  • Why no Bass Clarinet or Bari-sax? I play the Bass clarinet for this song and it really adds to the opening.

  • not bad at all u guys did good i think that the saxophone & clarinet solo was very well done but excuse me if im wrong but did u guys go too fast at the allegro section? cuz we're playin this in our band and we dont go THAT fast but overall good

  • Amazing job guys. The onlything I can say though, is a bit more woodwind in places, and be really careful on that ending

  • i know this is off-topic and kinda sad, but it would be funny if the trombonist hit the guy in front of him in the head with his slide

  • Oh my gosh!!! haha.. that would be hilarious! lol.. haha!

  • When I was in middle school band, the only trombonist we had actually dropped his slide off the stage while playing "Jingle Bell Rock", the stage being about 6 feet above the floor.

  • lmao

  • roflmao

We don't even HAVE a trombonist in my band to do that (not that we'd want them to do that)!

  • i played first tromebone on this selection for festival and they are doing a really good job great tone

  • omg I remember playing this for my spring festiveal in 8th grade!

  • we r playin this 4 our festival concert 4 some judges!!! i got the sax part (solo)

  • WOW. I played 2nd Euphonium or some thing. WHOA>

  • hey i played this at my christmas concet!

  • Great performance, especially for such a small group.

  • i played this for my christmas thingy

  • well done!!!
