I'm so sick of all these non smoking laws. I get that people don't want to be around smoke, but do we have to pass all encompassing laws? Can't we allow the proprietors of businesses decide whether they will allow smoking, especially at bars and venues. More laws = less fun. The non smoking laws may not you, but it will be something else next. How bout a law banning fat people from small restaurants? They make fire exits hard to reach and their poor health is a liability in an emergency!

That has to do with the re-enacting of the nation state as a response to globalization. That causes the police and the law of the society to become paranoid, aggressive and to make scapegoats of petty criminals, who are good persons, but fit as an example of that the police state still has power.

I've worked for a local council(manual worker) for 20 years and I've never seen such a bloated waste of space as these local councils in my life.
They literally have nothing better to do than make up and police rules that cause the ordinary hard working public trouble.
Just last week a local shop had to close a Christmas Grotto because the flight of steps(each step) into the grotto were 2cm too short....
And it's always the poorly paid workers who suffer the constant cuts....
