¿Can't Chinese people vote freely in XiangGang (Former British HongKong) and AuMon (former Portuguese Macau/Macao)? 50 years of freedom before Sun Yat-Senism (Socialism).
@vipdamn points of view.since taiwan's name is "republic of china"and since it was the kmt who founded the modern state in taiwan, and since taiwan is big majority chinese,i think that taiwan is china.
@valeagathon Under the name of the Republic of China, see The Communists only have the support of other communists, If China wants to be nice to the entire planet they will go back to being a Democratic Republic of China :)
(cont) i want to add that my bias in all this is that my family was beaten and in one instance jailed but for speaking taiwanese; my parents were beaten as children by teachers/authority figures at school just for that, they did not understand why they were beaten.... tihs is what human rights and democracy is about... and a lot of chinese people long for that kind of freedom as well; falun gong practictioners (or anyone who has a different opinion) should not have be persecuted..
Taiwan is a part of China. Mainland is under the rule of "People's Republic of China" while the island of Taiwan is ruled by the "Republic of China". China remains separated since the Chinese Civil War wasn't technically over as the KMT is still stationed in Taiwan with military aid from US. Stop addressing in a tone as if Taiwan is an independent country, it isn't.
@RPAY100 Yes, you have totally different culture. That's why the language predominantly used in Taiwan is pu tong hua. That's why you celebrate CHINESE new year, and other holidays that CHINESE people traditionally celebrate. That's why your national day commemorating Sun Yat Sen (who so happens to be CHINESE) is coincidentally on the same day as when CHINA celebrates it. When you stop shamelessly using our culture, then I'll admit you're different.
@Nyro888 not the bestargument; regardin the language, taiwanese were beaten by the KMT for many years post world war 2 for speaking taiwanese; my aunt who was a reporter was sent to prison for speaking taiwanese... of course no one can deny influence from china in taiwan, but there are also other influences that make it different. for the record, i dont think that taiwanese "are ethnically" superior to the chinese, not at all.. i'm talking about human rights...
@Nyro888 Many countries celebrate Chinese new year such as Singapore,Malaysia. Besides, Taiwan's new year is not on the same date as China. we use Traditional Chinese but China people use Simple Chinese!!! whether u admit we r different or not, at least i know i'm TAIWANESE but not Chinese
@RPAY100 so you're saying you celebrate chinese new year, you write in traditional chinese, you can definitely speak at least one chinese language, you most likely have ancestors from china, and yet you're not chinese......oookay.
@RPAY100 Lol, no disrespect, but you must live in denial, kind of like how Micheal Jackson is black, but desperately tries to be white, even going so far as to get plastic surgery, to make himself white. But hey who am I to judge as long as you're happy, just like Micheal was probably happy to pay millions each year keeping his face on.
None of this matters, Taiwan exist at the leisure of the Chinese . They can just declare the nation re-unifed at any time . It wont be all that bad , it'll be like Hong Kong
@dreamihad That's a simplistic and ignorant statement; for many Taiwanese, it's not about politics but human rights. The Chinese government has corrupted its citizens (I don't think I need to cite examples); that is not to say that Taiwan doesn't have its problems, or any country for that matter; but let's put it this way, Taiwanese don't like to be associated with people who react violently for saying they are Taiwanese (a Taiwanese man got beaten a month ago for that very reason)
@dmmc1043 I think it is you who misunderstands Chinese people by thinking we want you to be associated with us. We could care less about who you identify yourselves as, we just care about the land you're currently occupying, which was initially conquered by the KMT, who are Chinese people, and made Taiwan an economic force today. Taiwanese people like yourself are so insecure and pretentious, thinking you're better than others.
@Nyro888 well i don't want to resolve to violent and agressive ad hominem attacks like you do, but my poitns are about human rights... and if you don't care for human rights, then OK...
@dmmc1043 (cont.) Speaking of violent behaviour, have you seen your own parliamentary debates? Slapping, fighting, spitting, shouting amongst different people with different opinions. These people are suppose to be leaders of Taiwan, and they behave like animals. Your beloved DPP leader calls it 'democracy', but it is the most uncivilized democracy in the world.
@Nyro888 i didn't necessarily say DPP is the way to go either, but in my opinion, it is a better alternative than the KMT... anyway, my point is more about human rights.. not all chinese people are corrupt of course, i have great chinese friends that i love very much. But the Chinese government corruption cannot be denied; and it is a far more serious corruption than that of Taiwanese corruption...
@dmmc1043 1) I'm not against human rights. 2) How do you measure corruption? Is it by the number of corrupt officials in each country? well since the mainland has more people than Taiwan, there inevitably will be more corruption. 3) Why would DPP be better in terms of human rights? Is it because they're antagonistic to China? How would they make Taiwan a more liberal society?
@Nyro888 youtube does not allow lengthy comments, so i cannot reply properly... but regarding 3) i'm just saying that DPP is a lesser of evil than the other alternative; and i personally don't condone any antagonism towards the chinese people but towards the chinese government; it is very obvious, why some people are against the gvt. I don't deny that there's no corruption in the DPP but the corruption in the KMT is very cclear. unfortunately i cant post links because of youtube limit
@dmmc1043 go on gooogle type: "taiwan elections mostly free but partly unfair " read the article, before u accuse them of being biased, read the intro; they are neutral observers made up of academics around the world... again let me repeat, i dont hate the chinese people just the government, and it has a negative impact on chinese culture; and again i can't eleborate further due to youtube post limit, but c'mon there are so many articles from all over the world about it..
@dmmc1043 final point.. like i said previously, i have chinese friends that i really love; these are people who were not influenced by their government because they grew up elsehere or fled their government and desire change as well... human rights = freedom of expression, freedom of religion, etc.. take a look at falun gong practionners for example; persecuted in china .. etc
@dmmc1043 DPP is the lesser of the two evils?? A party that does nothing but create controversy and tension between China and taiwan is to you the lesser of two evils. A party that doesn't really have a concrete policy in regards to helping the helping the unemployed people in Taiwan, as well as other issues concerning the well-being of people who actually live in Taiwan is considered to be the lesser of the two evils? Ok, that's your opinion. (cont.)
@dmmc1043 (cont.) You must live in a black and white world if all you see is Chinese government = evil, and carelessly throw around concepts like a lack of human rights and freedom, as well as propaganda to condemn China. You see governments as separate entities, because in a so called 'democratic' society, you have multiple parties. But I see them as one large organisation, sledging each other, to make you think that one is better than the other. (cont.).
@dmmc1043 (cont.) To me, this is a form of propaganda, but you probably see it as the "freedom" to choose. Why? Because governments are bound by a constitution. If you really want to test the tolerance of your country, attack the constitution, and we'll see how lenient they are towards you. Again you have a US vs. Them mentality, which is exactly what the "Westernised" DPP want you to have.
@Nyro888 btw, i'm not interested in politics, nor did i grow up in taiwan, so i'm absolutely not influenced by dpp in any way.. i also don't see things as black and white, and democratically, it's fine if the taiwanese really want to vote for KMT; but if u checked out what the analysts reported, it wasn't done in the fairest conditions what with the threats and whatnot...
@dmmc1043 And if Hu Jintao said on TV that China would start exercising control over Taiwan 2 months from now, and if required would take control by force , what would happen . America might do some finger waging , but aside from that their would be a more or less peaceful re-unification . I could see the US and European nations offering asylum to Taiwanese who feel threatened by a Chinese take over, but that's it . However both sides seem to be happy with the status quo ...
@KnthC Hong Kong, also has a government, would you call it a country? Btw, Taiwan has no seat in the UN, and only a handful of nations recognise its soverignty.
@Nyro888 I know Taiwan has no seat in the UN. What I meant by Taiwan's own government is the fact that it truly is its own government. Techinically, Hong Kong's government still has to answer to the government in Beijing.
@MrQAZ008 Whoa did you take your meds? Calm down, lol. Anybody who writes like you must be seriously insecure. Yes, yes, you are so 'fucking rich' to buy outdated F-16's, and the deal was delayed for a long time. China is so mad that very few nations outside of Taiwan officially recogonises Taiwan's soverignty. China's so mad that the majority of Taiwanese chose to re-elect a pro ccp, pro-unification president. This was all done without firing a bullet. U mad, bro?????
@MrQAZ008 "and we are just fucking rich to bought a lot F-16C/D from USA"....ofcourse u got rich. because ur government's economic deals with china made it so u retarded dumbass haha
@dingqixin Next Media belongs to a Hong Kong-based conglomerate. The clip features a girl who probably grew up in North America and speaks fluent English, but that doesn't mean she's not from Taiwan. Ask the 23 million people of Taiwan if they are a country; only a handful will say no.
@an00b1z 'Ask the 23 million people of Taiwan if they are a country, only a handful will say no' -Is that why the KMT party, a pro-unification, supporter of the 1992 consensus, was elected?
KMT government before they letting a Japanese soliders killing many mainland chinese peoples in china! KMT doing the same thing. Before they flee Taiwan! All around world chinese peoples support the mainland China and we never forget about this history! Today mainland China is a world Economic and Militarys superpower. Mainland China don't need to fight with Taiwan, all they do shooting missle the hold island is gone of this planet. THAT REAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@nisbahmumtaz909 I think they meant with either a large large majority of Chinese or where Chinese is the only official language. Or maybe since Taiwan is majority of Chinese who fled communist rule. Or somewhere along those lines.
@nisbahmumtaz909 Chinese is the official language of none of those nations and only in Malaysia are they represented by a specific Chinese-based group of parties (Singapore's PAP is multi-racial) in power. In places like the Philippines and Indonesia there are millions of Chinese people but culturally they are more like the locals either out of choice or being forced by previous regimes. Hence none of them are 'Chinese speaking'. Even Singapore's premium lingo is English.
@nisbahmumtaz909 It's an unfortunately translated phrase. The Chinese usually goes something like 華語的國家 or 華人世界. Think of it in the context of the "Anglosphere" or "Francophone countries." Historically, there have been many French speakers in New Orleans, but that state couldn't count as part of the French-speaking world. So the Chinese speaking world--or Sinosphere, if you will--refers to TW and China: around 20% of the world's population.
