I just finished making that compilation I mentioned earlier on this post, the MiniDisc-based compilation, totals 75+ minutes and has 25 tracks on it, compiled off of both CDs of Volumes 1 & 2, titled "Making Time" and "Biff Bang Pow!" respectively, and I have already uploaded it onto both my Sony NW-HD5 20GB HDD Walkman and my 16 GB iPod nano 6G and have burned a CD of the compilation as well (intended for my own personal use ONLY, of course), and yes the Miller Lite commercial got me into them.
Heard this on a Miller Lite commecial and for the longest time I could not figure out the artist of this god damn song! So happy I finally did, amazing riff and just great song. Thank you Miller Lite!
Had to do some checking after heard on the miller lite commercial, thought for sure it was a Who song, hopefully it is on itunes, good song. Sounds like vox guitar amps amps, cranked. Also, around 2:15 may be the first grunge! lol
@jackinbox133 same here, I already ordered both Volumes 1 and 2, entitled "Making Time" and "Biff Bang Pow" respectively and will soon be cruising them in my 1963 VW Bus!
Here's what one chap said about this track:
"Groovy baby!" - Austin Powers
another one said:
"ditto" - Cindy Margolis, a former fembot in "Austin Powers"
I love the sound from the mid 60s. This track is really something. It´s raw, honest garage rock music. I just wonder if the drums has been dubbed in the recording?
I´m from the north of Europe and among my friends it was very cool to have unknown bands as idols. My fav. was THE ZETTLERS. Check up their versions of "Skinnie Minnie" and "Beautiful Delilah". Irresistible f.....g good even today!!!!
I actually got to see this band a few years back here in Detroit, won free tickets. And you know what? They were FANTASTIC, put on a great, great show.
Making Time - The Creation [Cheshunt, England] - 1966 - "A PERFECT example of the British mod sound." - Our Music Is Red - With Purple Flashes-1998. NOTE: AMG pick. Led by some positively severe power chord riffing from the Creation's resident guitar god, Eddie Phillips, this record is as powerful as any 'Who' record of the day, and the performance and overall moxie that the band had is well-represented here.
@ecnalubma696969 what the fuck is your problem you little fuckin chavy cunt. My comment probably is'nt 'cool enough' for a pretentious cunt like you. I bet you have a wardrobe full of Oasis inspired clothes and a Paul Weller hair cut. All I did was comment and give my 'thumbs up'. You pompous cunt.

proust2020 these where a proper mod group unlike the who whos manager asked them to wear the mod clothes he brought them and pretend they where mods to get a following who would then buy their records
@paintedship ok the bow is unique, I'll give you that much. But come on. The vocal is a Daltrey rip off, the backing vocals are pure Who, the drummer only wishes he could play like Moon. Don't get me wrong I think they are cool, but this song is very influenced.
@proust2020 Kenny Pickett isn't a Daltrey ripoff- that's like saying Steve Marriott or Reg King or any other "mod" singer is a Daltrey ripoff. I don't get the Keith Moon comment either. The Who aren't the end all and be all of everything music and they sure as hell didn't influence every other "mod/psych" band of the mid 60s.
@proust2020 not really and the early who weren't that unique anyway, other than there individual talents, they did there share of cherry picking things they liked from bands that proceeded them, later on ,late 60's early 70's they developed into something much more unique, and still influential.
I had the pleasure of hearing this fantastic band in the Olympia Theatre Dublin @ the final of the Miss Mod 1967 competition. What great memories and thanks for posting this brilliant song
Yeah, who could forget the great mod and rock songs mined from the Magna Carta? the Middle Ages shepherds who prefigured the Yardbirds? the thousands who died in the Great Plague and James Watt developing his steam engine so The Beatles could exist? That's it, buddy, you put your finger right on it -- history!!
@notanotheraccount in reply to your crass answer, the history maybe comes from the working class background most of the bands from the sixties grew up in, and thats not to say that american bands / individuals did'nt pen some classic tunes its just that the circumstances have been different socially between the usa and britain.
This is just a Michigan guy speaking, but it seems to me that it was a whole lot of the John Osborne Angry Young Man type stuff mixed with a culture that was more open to cross-pollination with American blues and R& B music.
Maybe GB got the jump on the USA a little bit because the US was stunted quite a bit by the intensive racist vibe of the times.
@mvonwahlde The angry young man thing came about through a very austere time in england, post war.I was born in the 50s and remember listening to the radio which was churning out big band sounds and crooners, my brother who is seven years older than me would play presley, buddy holly and eddie cochran which i enjoyed to a point but it did'nt quite connect. My time came with early rolling stones and then mod bands with their socially pointed comments.
"Making Time" was released as a single in June 1966, a couple of months before "I'm a Boy" was released. Technically, "I'm a Boy" sounds like the intro of "Making Time."
Lol if anyone knows the show Freaks and Geeks, does anybody find it coincidental that Nick wanted to name their band Creation and they all loved The Who? And I'm guessing by their trademark or logo that The Creation was very influenced by The Who as well.
