im not a huge jovi fan, but i have to say they are one of the greatest live bands you will ever see.

their solo albums (MOSLTY) are shit, though.

jon and richie can write awesome songs together, but not so good apart.

richies first album (this one) was ok, but other than that i havent heard any jovi member solo songs that i have liked at all

I love Richie's work, I'm a huge fan. But, hey, what the hell?! Jon singing badly? Jon having a bad voice? You're out of your mind. Richie is better, but that's not the point. Jon is a fantastic singer, a showman, a charismatic frontman AND he has what BJ needs, a dirty hard rock voice. Richie is a better singer, but he couldn't cover all Jon's parts, because he sings bluesy and softly.

Richie Sambora is a much better singer than John. John can't sing to save his life. John has a VERY bad voice. He sounds like someone is squeezing his nose when he is singing.

IMO, when Richie sings high notes, he sounds soft - like Roche Voisine or something...he's got a nice bluesy voice though, just not when he sings high...hate to say it, but it sounds "gay" for lack of a better word. That's why he's not the singer, that's why Jon also changed his vocal delivery (listen to "she don't know me" - example of "gay" delivery).

Richie's voice didn't suit the gritty hard rock sound the band was going for - Jon himself never sang the way he did on BJ records (listen to powerstation years or him "live").Try singing any BJ song and see how difficult it is already, then try and sing it with Jon's rough "album" voice and see it be 100X harder. Jon's the front man because he has the look and voice, even if Richie is an overall stronger singer.

Great preformance from a true legend of rock. Sambora is the unsung hero of Bon Jovi and this exemplifies his class. The pipes just transcend, such control, such a ballsy, soulful voice, step aside Jon, ha ha.
