If intent and technique are rightfully applied, any discomfort on the part of the client is usually reflexive of the amount of myofascial dysfunction, thickening and/or restriction that is present in that area.
This is an individual thing and varies from person to person, and area to area.
I try to let people inform me of threshold on a number scale. A seven or eight out of ten on the sensitivity scale tells me I am to use no more pressure or move slower...as this will feel deeper.
@kthorn612 And I find that the myofascia of the flexors to be needing of a more gentle approach with lots of communication of what I am going to do ahead of time, slowly going into the technique and the client communicating back. Sometime people are just not ready for deep work and some preparation massage sessions can do wonders to now allow structural work to be more readily accepted. Especially if they never had hands on them before.
@LegPains Possibly and very likely so. I would first get the opinion of a competent chiropractor to establish a firm diagnosis through examination, X-Ray and possibly MRI findings. Follow a treatment protocol to reduce pain and restore proper alignment to the problem area with the chiropractor. Once improvement is noted and pain reduced then consider consulting with a certified Rolfer. Acupuncture with an OMD would also be a good adjunct with these two therapies.
" Straightening of lumbar lordosis , L4 L5 disc bugle , L5 S1 has a loss of water content and shows a shallow broad based protrusion in contact with the dural sac and entering into the Neural Foramina bilaterallyy
My Cervical X rays show fwd head carriage and my head leans to the right with slight loss of curvature
@LegPains If you check with a chiropractor they may deem that L5 S1 situation may disqualify you for spinal manipulative therapy. But get two opinions from different chiropractors and preferably through some kind of personal referral from family, friends or associates that give a good opinion of the chiropractor.
Whether you can get manipulation or not, the bodywork will do a lot to balance the body and take strain of this area. Do share these findings with a Rolfer should you choose do it.
im Way ahead of ya, ive had this condition for over 12 years and in that time have consulted with approx 70 different Chiropractors from all over America. Most of them have said i qualify and would be a great candidate for Spinal Manipulative therapy.
ive had the Therapy numerous times and its never been able to affect my situation or help me in any way
so far i havent been able to get any relief from anyone, i had My 1st Rolfing session on Friday from a woman certified in it from Stroudsburg PA, but i was very dissapointed in it.
Felt no different than a standard conventional massage. She used very weak soft pressure and i didnt feel any difference from the session anywhere in my body , it was a total waste of $ 100
@LegPains Sorry to hear this. Over the years I have encountered a few Rolfers that did not do good work, others that were truly gifted. Same with chiros.
I disagree with the chiropractic is quackery comments, as I have seen way too many good results in far too many people including myself over the past twenty years.
Surprised you haven't had good natural fusion.
Good luck to you. Maybe you should try something more orthodox and allopathic like surgery, implanted devices, meds, nerve blocks
fantastic five stars

@kthorn612
