I was first introduced to Flann O'Brien at 19 years of age 35 years ago ... and laugh as much when reading Brians' writings to this day ....I am looking forward to reading Michael's biography ..
He should have left the place like Joyce and Beckett. Only way for an Irish artist to succeed or even survive is to get out as soon as possible. But it's down to personality, huge step to abandon your past life, even if it's killing you. Maybe he's still alive in Skerries, he'd only be 99.
Too much to see / At swim two minds / Press rolling home prose tight and shone / Bleached sharp white stone / On Cruiskeen Lawn / But oh poor soul / The crumpled shoulders / Face multi muscled his words a'torrent / Still some little sense in that / Legs on the wander, mind on the blink / You see the bleary eyes alone / Did but require a saintly measure / Of love and grace
From a biography of Flann O'Brien: "survived by Mícheál [Ó Nualláin] and Niall [ONolan], both living into the late 1990s; a third brother, Ciarán, serves as a memorialist" - could it be Ciarán we're hearing here?
thanks for posting this. if you have the other 3 half hour parts, please post em up. also, if anybody reading this has a copy of the programme rte made on flann about three years ago, lob it up on you tube

His brother Michael was a painter - the narrator here talks about his studio and artwork so I think it is Michael O'Nuallain.
