@driftapex 8690, for sure, Alienware is absolute crap, seriously, Asus, they're fine but they overheat horribly, my friends GPU in his G53 just fried after a year ish of gaming use. I'd be very carful with Asus. Sager has by far the best parts out of the three for the best price, plus they run cooler than almost any other notebook, have great build quality, don't use factory underclocked parts, and they let you change the thermal paste on the machine without voiding your warranty, really great.
Hi guys, I'm considering buying one of these, what do people think of it? Good/Bad? Worth the 1500k price tag? Anything better for less? I'm just not familiar with laptops really, before I invest I'd like a good opinion! For gaming of course...I'd appreciate any help!!
You'd be surprised, most high end noteboooks are rebranded Clevo's, including Alienware. When you buy Alienware you're paying for service, warranty, name and fashion yet the core parts you get are lower spec even though the overall price is higher. Do your bank account a favor, buy the Sager AND get a higher spec machine you'll be happy you did :)
@ridebikes720 I'm aware, but Dell bought them for the name and because they were a competitor plus they were already set up to handle power users who want things like the latest and greatest video cards and water cooling. Alienware's hardware and suppliers haven't changed.
It's amazing. The performance of i7+SSD is superb. I also really like its smaller size in comparison with previous NP 5797. The 1920x1080 looks very nice on 15.4". Moreover, the e-sata works with my external HDD - MyBook - on Windows 7.
To sum it up - it's just perfect. The only problem is the battery life, which is less than one hour. Maybe the next line of intel CPUs - i5 will be better in this.
@Peto111222 - I never really got in to PC games. Used to play Diablo II and World of Warcraft a lot, and my graphic cards just couldn't handle either of them very well. Weird visual glitches would happen and my laptop would freeze and... blah. I'm not too worried about battery life, =)
For $1700 or so, it looks like a very good bargain. Might upgrade to 4GB of RAM though to be safe.
It's really a big improvement from previous Clevo line - NP 5797. The cooling is much better too - it's almost inaudible during non performance extensive tasks...
With the battery i had the same "problem" but if you insert the drivers cd (wich is actually from clewo) and install "the stuff" and then press the (M) under the screen that gave me 1.6 hours.
(note that this will work without the drivers cd, but the cd will insatll a notification software wich shows "whats happening" in the left corner of the screen)
@Peto111222 Does the SSD offer much over HDD for the cost-increase and size-loss? I mean, no moving parts (so more impact safe), and faster random access (if engineered properly), but, how is it in practice?
I strongly recommend having SSD for OS and software. It really does improve the performance - mainly the response time which is ~ 150x! faster for SSDs. The OS feels responding instantly and that's great. Ofc is much more expensive than regular HDD but the price is not that big after all, considering its recent market introduction and performance gain. Also it should be much more reliable if you have it in laptop.
I just recently found two stuck pixels :(. Luckily, you can't almost see them with 1080p screen on 15.4", but still it sucks when you find it. This is my first stuck pixels in my three sager laptops I have had so far though...
The cooling is much better on the machine. No buzzing when surfing! You don't feel almost any heat on palms, but still when you have it in your lap, it's better to have some pad to have the lappy on. I also think there's much less heat coming from the front - HDD area - due to having SSD.
The most powerful15" gaming notebook currently available supposedly. PCTorque sells them for a little less than XoticPC though. Both are highly respected vendors of Sager products. Cant go wrong buying from either.
If this had a backlit keyboard, I'd buy it in a heartbeat... not sure why companies are still releasing notebooks without this feature. Especially notebooks in the $2000 price range.
how can something like that prevent you from buying this laptop? sure a backlit keyboard is a nice touch, but are you really that lost without seeing each key individually lit? the screen simply being on is enough light to let you see the keys.
you must simply want the backlit keys as an aesthetic thing
No, I don't want it only for aesthetics. When I'm gaming at home, I generally don't have lights on, they bug me. I had to get a backlit keyboard for my desktop, even though my monitor shines right on my keyboard, it's really hard to see whats on the keys. Generally I can type fine without looking, but sometimes I need to look. Most other laptops are starting to come with this. Alienware, HP, Sony, Asus to name a few, all have started using it. Why not any of sagers? LED's arent expensive...
the CPU can disable some cores and overclock remaining ones, so you can have four cores working at 1.6GHz or one core at 2.8GHz. The good thing is this is done dynamically according to current usage.
lmao laptop porn

Hey Justin!
Great video, but I'd suggest adding some sound and giving us a narration next time, will make it more informative. Do show some games too. ;-)
Best of luck with future laptops!

On top of that it's lighter and uses less energy, which, however, is not much less than regular one though. But, heck, every little helps :)
