I want to thank Steve for staying with his muse over the years and for being the single most inspiring artist to me. When he first started it was a bit like everyones stuff then he found his voice and the rest is better every year.
Looking at the comments I see many feel the same way. No complex philosophy, no politics just deep space and organic sounds that you can feel in your head, your heart and in your very bone marrow.
i searched for NDE (near death experience)..found his name and also that he composed music that he heard while he had an NDE ..i searched in youtube..and found this...
It's great to see Steve Roach perform. I don't know much outside of his soundscapes. This is interesting music, but, in my opinion, his best work is found on albums like Structures From Silence, Quiet Music, Darkest Before Dawn, and The Immersion series. Those albums are sonic textures of eternal truth. Wonderful stuff. Thank you for posting this clip. It's given me a chance to experience some of his other music and I like it.
Big fan of Steve Roach. I wish he would come out with a video of him live. The whole show. But agree. Why do people call it New Age. It is not New Age.
ive been a fan of steve roach's every since i heard Dreamtime return and structures from silence. i continue to listen to his music every night. He is a magnificent musician and its wrong that he is not well known throught the world of music, regardless of genre. thank you steve for introducing me to real music
Yes Steve Roach has made a lot for other himself like other emerging artists, usually a deep feast for your ears and mind, so these images is a somehow a good introduction of what he is, this man needed also a clip for himself, even if the sounds could for long speak for themselves
everytime i listen to his music i always feel like im floating in space, naked in some clear capsule bubble of some sort feeling serene, quiet.where am i going? i dont know.anyone else feel like that?no? ok,i'll see my way out then hehe.
Some one on Myspace said it best: "Roach and R. Robert Rich are the Rock Stars of ambient /trance tribal music!" I try to turn any one open to progressove music on to them. And stress its NOT "new age" music.
What is the difference between ambient music and new age? They sound the exact same, and are created using the same instrumentation, ect.thanks for posting this by the way!
I'm not sure, but I'm 99% certain its off of "Trance Spirits" which he did with Jeffrey Fayman, Robert Fripp, and I think Momoudo Kah if I'm not mistake. Its a really really good cd so grab it anyways.
Its a really well done album. Steve does some really out there stuff too, like Dust to Dust; a western thing, country tinged ambient album. Pretty interesting, but I dont really like it.
If Jarre had continued along the "Oxygene" path this is where he ould have ended up. Steve captures fantastic atmosphere in his music. Check him out on shoutcasts dronezone (he's on it evey day). Keep up the brilliant work Steve.
Oxygene 7 - 13 were a continuation by name only, the orginal Oxygene album is in a class of it's own. Steve is great but Jarre on the Oxygene album is untouchable.
a different sort of ambience, jarre is great but for me doesnt stand close to roach for depth and emotion when it comes to space music, though in my opinion both remain behind Biosphere who i think is the true genius of the Ambient world, substrata transends the spectrum of ambience, creates new avenues and horizons and even though roach is close to my heart, biosphere wins on sheer creativity.

I love Steve Roach, but I don't think I could watch him perform live. His music is the ultimate relaxation tool.

Some music (like S.R.) is probably both ambient and new age, but most ambient isn't new age and most new age isn't ambient.

A fine video composition of a great work from Steve Roach:
Album "Trance Spirits", 2002, track 2 "Trance Spirits", a colaborative work from Roach with Jeffrey Fayman and Robert Fripp.

jarre DID continue with oxygene but that was several years ago with oxygene 7-13. Jarre is one of the greats. Steve is in a class by himself.
