  • it'd no coincidence that anyone who has given a speech at aipac has turned out to be a traitor.

up next more taxes and gun grabbing!

  • @SushiHead20

    I have to agree sushi.

  • Is this obama's final solution?

  • @goingalt

Probably, similar civilian security forces were called into service by Mao during the cultural revolution. A horrible time to be a non-Communist or a business owner I might add.

  • Holy crap, This video has been totally spammed by ReliableInsider. JEEZ dude, Can anyone else post here to?

  • @spanky061970

I didn't even want to go into it with her since she was having a good time just typing away.

  • @gworksnell

Seriously, though, it's public service. Republicans are always saying that government can be safely eliminated because anything that the private sector can't do can be handled by church groups and volunteers doing public service.

This is the public service they're talking about.

    Republicans promise. Democrats deliver.

  • @gworksnell

There is nothing to be frightened about no matter what the fearmongers say. The fear-mongers and the hate-mongers and the anger-mongers in the Republican media spread fear, hate, and rage. What is the result? People who take the Republican media far too seriously end up angry, full of hate, and scared.

  • @spanky061970

Who the fuck let someone comment on my page? Whoever this spanky freak is, get her out of here and block her ass.

    lol

    I kid because I love.

  • Here's another paragraph from the speech:

"Just as we must value and encourage military service across our society, we must honor and expand other opportunities to serve. Because the future of our nation depends on the soldier at Fort Carson, but it also depends on the teacher in East LA, the nurse in Appalachia, the after-school worker in New Orleans, the Peace Corps volunteer in Africa, and the Foreign Service officer in Indonesia."

  • Hey, I found it. :)

Here is the text of the entire speech. It was actually published in the Wall Street Journal just before he delivered it on July 2, 2008:

    blogs.wsj . com/washwire/2008/07/02/obamas-remarks-on-service/

    (Please remove spaces from URL.)

  • It's probably easy to find the entire text of the speech. My source is

    factcheck . org/askfactcheck/is_obama_planning_a_gestapo-like_civilian_national.html

which is maintained by the Annenberg Public Policy Center of the University of Pennsylvania which is completely non-partisan.

It's a metaphor. He means less money for soldiers, more for the Peace Corps and AmeriCorps (which brings together volunteers and non-profit groups so people can serve their country NON-violently.

  • @ReliableInsider Off topic, how did you get the link to post? Every time I try to post a link it never shows up. Back on topic, you know Obama worked for Annenberg, right? I don't trust them when it comes to their "facts" concerning him.

  • @gworksnell

The Annenberg Public Policy Center of the University of Pennsylvania? I've never found any group more trustworthy. I also endorse the Center for Public Integrity which gets tiny donations from the Annenberg Foundation and about a hundred other foundations.

    These are good guys.

The way to post URLs (and, believe me, you do not want to know how long it took me to work this out) is to leave out the triple w and put a space before the 'com' and before the period.

  • @ReliableInsider

What is truly hilarious is that, when you watch a video of a puppy or a baby or something, you're not even allowed to post a comment saying 'Aww-ww-ww-ww, that's so cute!'

Because that would involve three double-you's in a row.

I can't even imagine how many girls end up feeling thwarted for that reason when YouTube won't let them post what seems like a completely innocuous comment when they see something cute.

  • part 2

"We've got to have a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded. We need to use technology to connect people to service. We'll expand USA Freedom Corps to create online networks where American can browse opportunities to volunteer. You'll be able to search by category, time commitment and skill sets. You'll be able to rate service opportunities, build service networks, and create your own service pages to track your hours and activities."

  • @ReliableInsider

Exactly. He is talking about creating a civilian national security force.

  • @gworksnell

What he's saying is that serving your country honorably doesn't have to be about carrying a gun. It can be tutoring a child at your local high school. This is a very, very old liberal idea. Community service doesn't have to be a punishment. It can be public service. It can be a way to serve your country and to make the country stronger.

It's money for guns, not butter.

It's even older than that. It's about beating swords into plowshares.

  • Here is the actual text of the speech:

"We will enlist our veterans to find jobs and support for other vets, and to be there for our military families. And we're going to grow our Foreign Service, open consulates that have been shuttered and double the size of the Peace Corps by 2011 to renew our diplomacy. We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we've set."

  • His point is 'invest more money in saving lives and less in taking lives and the world will be better off'.

  • Republicans act as though killing is the only thing government is capable of doing. Government funding can also assist hospitals and public schools. The federal government can provide aid to governors who can invest in providing basic infrastructure.

I can't imagine what would have happened to state budgets if we had had John McCain in the White House. We would have had states in bankruptcy. And patients left out on the street.

  • He's exactly right!

We've got to stop relying on guns and the use of force.

We need TEACHERS who can teach reading and writing and 'rithmetic and we need NURSES who are can provide outstanding medical care in our hospitals.

It's not that hard to find the whole speech. I'll try to find it.

He's saying stop growing the Defense Department budget and start doing health care reform.
