But most of the kids that go to Japan love manga and video games to the point that they learn "wrong" Japanese and get "wrong" ideas about Japan. They forget what real Japanese sounds like (no one speaks like characters do in anime and games) and what real Japanese culture is.

I don't know, I thought I'd love FFXI because it was Final Fantasy and an MMO but it really didn't come out as good as I thought it was and just about everything I've heard leading up to XIV points to it not being any better if not worse than XI. People may give it a shot cause it's an FF MMO but they've had that chance since 2001.

Nice vid. However, if XIV is going to be more WoW-esque as you put it then hand me a fresh razor so I can /wrist myself quick and easy. Sure it will be more casual friendly, but I'm pretty sure the devs made it clear that they are not at all trying to emulate WoW. It would be nice to have a significant amount of mystery and difficulty so that we can enjoy the challenge of discovery and the rewards of meaningful accomplishments.

I'm not really sure that Japan is "on top" of video games. Blizzard (Ticker Symbol - ATVI) owned by Activision is one of the highest grossing gaming industries in creation. World of Warcraft and the Blizzard lines are dominating every niche market. The sales of Final Fantasy or Metal Gear in their respective series' cannot compare. They are going to have to push their flagship titles with the related consoles, less they be overtaken by the American titles like Halo, Starcraft, WoW, etc.

Just about ever other American based company just pumps out the same sports title, or the same shooter with a new name every year. I'm more of a story player when it comes to my console gaming, and again, save Naughty Dog.. most NA developers just focus on MP and don't really care about what happens to the SP, which is where Japan stays strong.

I don't disagree that japan's industry in games in the past has been incredibly successful. However i've thought for quite some time now that Japan has been making terrible games and seem only to stick to their sequels. Mario, Final Fantasy etc. Mario games were fun first time and i've never liked FF so that makes games that i like from Japan very low. As a hardcore gamer addict I can safely say that the wii was the worst console i've owned and Japan only appeal to the auidence they already have

Simply because they offer much more in terms of story then just about any other game out there, doesn't make them "shit". It means that they appeal to a different type of player. That player "type" tends to be the person who really couldn't care less about MP, and really want a deep, compeling story. Which is where, as I said before, Japan stays on top.
