Dale Bozzio is a million years ahead in cyber groove.this clip is full of subtle styles..like Terry Bozzi's mic.Dale's mic..the guitars.I love the way Dale just stands there and looks stunning.the claims that Dale Bozzio ripped off grace jones are absurd.if i had to choose the gaga island or the Dale Bozzio island.i'd take DALE BOZZIO anyday.like gridiron coaches.team gaga have been watching "old films" of Dale's plays and ripped them off hugely.film producers do it all the time with remakes
waooowww there's the wall era -pink floydish influences apparently ... but equally Missing Persons has a great influence on modern electro rock quite popular singer Santigold or maybe even on Ladyhawke ... two talented women in their 30something... both gonna release their 2nd album approximatively at the same time Jan-Fev. 2012
@freejeffsamples1 while very dubious and discerning and a bit of a music snob, i'm very open-minded and love when new hyped artists take me by surprise.
i do find gaga very attractive and smart. it's just i have no idea why i'm supposed to be impressed by her as songwriter or musician. i am honestly waiting for that moment when one of her songs moves me. in any way.
All of you people that come to a music site only to compare, bitch and judge are so fucking SORRY!!!! It's SAD. There's always going to be a group or a band that has similarities to someone or something that came before. GET OVER IT!! GET A LIFE!!
It doesn't matter does it? Dale did not lead the way to givel others the courage to be bold, sexy women! Who was Tina Turner? The God mother of Rock & Roll? Hell yes! She and the Ikettes wore micro mini skirts with no panties on, when they performed and they really moved and shook their asses in your face! When you went to a show, you got buried in sweaty Black Bush & they were elevated high up on stage while you looked up their skirts! Now that's what I;m talking about! The real deal!
Boy George called... he wants his eyebrows back... not Dale Bozzio's best look as she was always a striking woman with a unique sound in the 80's (as those of us a certain age will recall).... all that and a smokin' hot body to boot. Ahhhh but everything old is new again.... and so it goes....
MP had incredible talent and their style was amazing to see back in the 80's, they still would be on top if they came out today. Gaga yeah she's talented and artistic but couldn't come close musically to the material MP made. Alejandro, really??? come on some one wake today's youth and show them the truth.
Hey...this girl is copying Lady Gaga! Oh shit...wait a minute! Ummm, this video is from 1984. Hey Lady Gaga, what the WTF is going on here?! You said to like you because you were so original and one of a kind and shit! You lied to me Gaga!!
Your a fake and phony, and i never want lay my eyes on you again!
This is the first time I have seen most of Missing Persons looks. Back in the 80s we had the music not things to look at. Missing Persons was 1 of my favorites because of their music. Not strange looks. I still enjoy Missing Persons music for the music. Not strange looks.
Any instrument in this video would be like collector pieces man ...that guitar and those air cymbals bozzio is playing on.80's phenomenon often imitated yet never to be duplicated...where a man could be as flamboyant as he wanted to be and still get all the girls gotta love the enigma behind it and the millions MTV made off of it.
Effing - Bad Ass!! I Am Priviledged to have grown-up as a teen in the 80's and be apart of ALL this Unique Music, Talent, and Style!! This is the Original Sh*t. No wonder music today pretty much sucks..sorry!! But everyone from Tupac, to Snoop, to Jay z, to Ms Nicki and everyone in between...has had to throw in the bad-ass sick sounds and re-mixes of the 70's Bee Gees to 80's Muzik...just to supplement their now "popular Sh*t." I'm NOT hatin' attall. That's jus the truth.
wow, I can't believe this generic music and stupid look that was in 30 years ago is what's making people famous today...we're not a bright generation are we?
@hellbentbliss Generic? It's just dance music, never been a very deep genre. You have no idea how weird and ahead of their time they were for the 80's. You need to keep things in perspective to the era it was released. What looks tame and generic now was not viewed that way 30 years ago...
I swear today's music is like a sports car that operates on an automatic gear shift and the 80s is one that operates on a manual gear shift. Obviously the ride in a manual is so much better!
listen to the guitarist Warren Cuccurullo track on this, he went to Duran Duran played some great tracks for Simon Le Bon, started with Frank Zappa,,,
Gaga is original she took inspiration from older styles and made it her own. Gaga and Bozzio both have an Avant Garde style that is it and their styles have quite a bit of differences as well. Also Bozzio was not the first person to have a weird style before Gaga and Bozzio there was Grace Jones, Labelle, Cher, Josephine Baker and other. Plus I hate when I come on videos of other artists everyone is always obsessed about Gaga. Let's talk about missing persons since they are the ones singing.
@0Sindel12 You contradict your faulty logic in your first sentence alone. If she was original she would not need to borrow at all to which you admit she did. Face it. GaGa is a creation from a corporation and that corporation has no originality either, they're making her act like somebody else. And that does not apply to just GaGa, it applies to other copy cats in the entertainment industry.
No one is original in the sense that you all think of it in the sense that they have no influences or borrow from other artists. As I have said no one has a copyright on Avant Garde styles not Gaga, Bozzio or the people who came before both of them. Next Gaga is a creation of herself she designed her own clothes, writes her own songs and choreographs her own dances.
Point in fact she refused a contract from Def Jam records because they wanted her to dress and sing in a way that she did not want to. So your argument that they are making her act a certain way is false because Gaga has always chosen to act as she is. Gaga is not a copycat she is an artist who took her influences and made them her own. Just as Bozzio is and all other artists. So you apparently don't know much about music.
Yes she did you can check with Def Jam themselves and they will coroboate her story and they feel stupid for letting her go. I doubt Def Jam would make up a story that makes themselves look bad. This actually happened and your conspiracy theory crap will not change this.
@0Sindel12 the fact that she dresses and sometimes acts exactly as The Missing Persons sort of points out that she is indeed a copy cat, just like all artists today who can't come up with their original style our sound. I'd be willing to bet that more than 80% of the younger gen today don't realize they are listening to so many cover tunes of songs already done between the 60s to the 80s. Gaga is no different. Stop being such a fanboy which causes ignorance to facts.
Next she does not dress or act like The Missing Persons. Gaga has her own personality and is definitelyt seperate from this group. As I said if Gaga is a copycat then so is Dale because as I said Bowie, Grace Jones, Liberace, Cher, Labelle and Josephine Baker all came before her. Dale, Gaga nor any other artist has a copyright on weird. Plus Gaga has her own sound and it certainly isn't copied from anyone else. In fact sound wise there is no artist who is like her.
@0Sindel12 Dale's iconism is due to Frank Zappa. She did not "copy" nor "rip-off" any other musician's style in order to become successful, which as unfortunate as it is, that's obviously not the case for Gaga. The coverart of Gaga's "The Cherrytree Sessions" is an excellent example of Gaga or her management adapting ideas from Missing Persons and Dale Bozzio. ...
Yes Dale's style is definitely influenced by other artists. Besides Frank Zappa which even you mention. I see her same Avant Garde style in Grace Jones, Cher, Labelle, Bowie, Liberache, Josephine Baker and many others. Also I have seen the cover art for the Cherry Tree sessions and it does not look like anything that Bozzio has done. Next actually Gaga has mentioned many artists as her influences and I believe Missing Persons is one of them.
Next she does have an original style she took inspiration from others and made it her own. Just as Bozzio and every other artist in the world did. Next I would imagine that many people in the younger gen do not know that many songs now a days are covers. However there are just as much which are totally new songs. Actually Gaga is different because she has never sung a song that she did not right and has never done a cover of someone else's song. .
@0Sindel12 ... To my knowledge, Gaga has not mentioned Missing Persons nor Dale as an influence, therefore, any allegedly inspired outfits, makeup or coverart is ultimately interpreted as a "copy" or "rip-off."
Dale made most of her outfits entirely from scratch -- and remeber, that was long before every middle-class American owned a home computer, or a cellphone, for that matter. ...
Also just because Gaga has outfits, make up or cover art that might look like Missing Persons and none of them are rip offs just vague coincidences. That dosen't mean that she ripped Bozzio off anymore then Bozzio ripped off Grace Jones, Labelle, Cher, Josephine Baker or any others that came before her. It just means that Gaga had a similar idea. Also Gaga makes and designs many of her outfits from scratch as well. In fact before she had money that is all she could do.
@0Sindel12 Gaga's profile with the paint swash across her face on the cover of "The Cherrytree Sessions" is a poor copy (or possibly an homage to)/of the cover of "Spring Session M." It was Dale's idea to put the swash on the cover. I'm merely pointing out that blatant detail. Who's idea was it to put the swash on Gaga's album?
Dale is flattered to be compared to Grace Jones and Cher, however, she was not significantly influenced by the aforementioned artists. ...
However even if she did not that does not mean that she copied Dale it just means that they had similar ideas. Gaga no more copied Dale then Dale copied Cher, Grace Jones etc. Next I have seen both covers and I only see vague similarities between both sessions. Dale nor Gaga is the first artists to have covers with paint swashes on their faces. I have seen similar things with Grace Jones.
@0Sindel12 ... As I have already mentioned, my argument is merely; numerous allegedly influential motives, yet no official mentioning of Missing Persons nor Dale. If you, or anyone else can proove otherwise, I will refrain from commenting about such actions. Until then, "game on." It's that simple.
I have seen paint swatches over numerous parts of a persons face on album covers not just the eyes. I read on different websites that Gaga said that Dale was an inspiration and I have heard Gaga credit inspirations such as Cher, Grace Jones, Bowie etc directly. However even if she did not that dosen't mean that she ripped her off it just means that Gaga had a similar idea.
Hell she even made her famous disco stick from scratch. Point in fact Gaga writes her own songs, choreographs her own dances, and designs her own outfits even Bozzio can not claim that much. Plus Bozzio unlike many of these great Divas and Divos I have mentioned does not dress as wild as she used to and that is a shame.
Just because Gaga had similar ideas to Dale does not mean that she ripped her off it just means that they had similar ideas ala by coincidence.Your have a one sided standard of ripping off.If Gaga in your mind has a similar style to another even by coincidence then she is a rip off but if Dale does it then it is just coincidence .
No only obsessive fans here are calling her a copy cat. The majority of the people in the world and fans of both Gaga and Missing Persons do not think she is a copy cat. As I said neither Gaga, Bozzio or those who came before them have a copyright on weird styles.
@0Sindel12 Yeah Sindel, stop living in denial. Even though SOME of Gaga's stuff might seem catchy there's nothing original about her style. I mean look at the side related videos, it's obvious. And you're only lying to yourself while everybody in this thread recognizes the real point in facts that Gaga is not doing anything unique. Great voice, she can sing beautifully, but there's nothing special about her style. It's Blondie mixed with Missing Person's all over again.
No I am living in reality. Your wacko purists who think that in order to be original one must have zero inspiration and have no influences. Next yes her style is original as I have said she took inspiration and made it her own. However she does acknowledge her influences and inspirations. Next I have seen the side related videos and nothing has pointed that Gaga is a rip off.
Next it was Gaga who had the idea to put the swash on her own face as she is the one with control over these things. Next yes Dale was influences by Grace Jones and Cher because they had these Avant Garde styles way before her as did many others. If you want to deny that she was influenced by them simply because she did not credit them or she just had similar ideas and that it was a coincidence then I will say the same thing about Gaga.
@0Sindel12 I'm Dale's son, so I know who Dale's influences are. Dale was not even remotely influenced by Grace Jones, nor Cher. The closest Dale ever came to being inspired by Grace Jones was dating Dolph Lundgren -- Dolph had dated Grace before Dale.
"Spring Session M" is the only album cover that I have ever seen consiting of a woman's profile with a paint swash across the woman's face with her eyes cut out, aside from "The Cherrytree Sessions." ...
As I have said I have seen similar looks from divas before Dale such as Cher, Grace Jones etc but that dosen't mean that Gaga or Bozzio ripped them off. Next you are Dale's son really! I would like a little proof before I accept this because anyone can claim to be related to stars on the net. However the point is that I see similar kinds of looks with Grace Jones and Cher regardless of whether your mother claims influences from these women.
@0Sindel12 ... Now, she is back with Warren Cucurullo and a summer tour is in the works.
In regards to the similarities between Dale and Gaga, I suppose we can let sleeping dogs lie, for now at least. We have both repeatedly stated our beliefes.
. Next everyone does not have this opinion and if you check any of Gaga's videos or many other artists especially ones that like Gaga they all say that Gaga is original in the sense that she took inspiration from other artists and spun it in a new way and made it her own. Furthermore numbers mean nothing when you are right you are right no matter who agrees with you. Next her style is special, it is unique, beautiful and very well done.
While she might have similarities with Missing Persons and I don't really see the Blondie similarity she has her own style that she took and spun in a fresh new way to make something great. Just as all of these other great artists have done
@0Sindel12 Top 3 conversations are from HootyHaHa and Sindel. HootyHaHA is right. Sindel is wrong. However I have to echo what another poster said. It doesn't change the fact that Gaga still has a great vocal talent and can sing great. But the same goes, her style is just a copy of Missing Person's and the 80s. Nothing new with her. And actually that's a compliment saying she's like the 80s, because the 80s were RAD! Look at it that way Sindel. She's bringing the Rad 80s back.
No I am right Gaga nor Bozzio nor any of the other people with a weird or Avant Garde style have a copyright on it. However I feel the same though with Gaga she is bringing back the Rad 80s back and should be supported for that. However Gaga is not a copy of Bozzio they have a similar style but there is differences. If Gaga is a copy of Bozzio then Bozzio is a copy of Grace Jones, Labelle, Cher, Josephine Baker etc.
@0Sindel12 Cher was a Diva. She did not copy them. One could say that some bands during Missing Person's time were similar or an influence because that was the scene back then. However, when Gaga comes on the scene more than 20 years later reviving the look (again).. she's not inspired by the current times. She's copying the past, either that or her executives are telling her to do so. Do you think all the Boy Bands out there are original? Or do you understand that they're executive controlled?
Cher had her influences as did any artist and if it was not for Sonny Bono originally supporting her then she would most likely not have gotten a break. Next yes it is true that Gaga revived the Avant Garde and glam look and it is a good thing that she is not copying modern times. Gaga did this on her own accord she has her style not because some executive controls her in fact as I said she rejected working with execs at record companies because they tried to tell her what to do.
@0Sindel12 ... Dale's influences are Judy Garland, Aretha Franklin, Marleine Dietrich, Betty Davis, and of course, Frank Zappa.
Once again, to my knowledge, as well as other's, Gaga has not mentioned Missing Persons nor Dale as an influence. If you can provide evidence of such claims then I will happily refraim from accusing Gaga and/or her management of copying Dale's style. Until then...
And her influences are also the women I mentioned because if you think that Dale's style is copied by Gaga even though the two are very different and since Gaga allegedly did not credit Dale then she must be a rip off. Then you must also say that Dale is a rip off as well because Grace Jones, Bowie, Labelle, Liberache, Cher, Josephine Baker and many others had this same style before her. Next I know that Gaga listed many artists as influences and I believe Missing Person's was one of them.
Your mother probably has the same styles simply because by coincidence they had the same ideas. The same is true with Gaga. By the way tell your mother I am a big fan of her's and I hope for the best for her. Of also how is Dale doing I heard she was arrested for animal cruelty which just broke my heart and I hated that she got in that situation. Is she doing ok now?
@0Sindel12 For evidence supporting my claim of being Dale's son, I suggest that you go to Dale's official Facebook page, there is a comment on her wall regarding my YouTube escapdes that was posted on the 8th which Dale responded to.
Your consideration is appreciated. Dale is doing just fine. She served 20 days in county jail (for charges she was not guilty of), and in her words, it was an enlightening experience and she met quite a few humble individuals during her stay. ...
@0Sindel12 You continue to miss the point. It is not HER style. The style was already created. And she borrowed it, or was influenced extremely heavily by it. It's not hers. To say it's hers is as illogical as saying that Vanilla Ice did not take from Queen for his song.
Yes it is her style because she had inspiration and made it her own. It is not Dale Bozzio's style either by your impossible standard of originality either because she did not invent it and took inspiration and made it her own as well. Furthermore Vanilla Ice actually took a piece of music from Queen Gaga just has a weird and Avant Garde style which no one has a copyright on.
@0Sindel12 You're still making not a lot of sense. How can she make it her own style when it's not ANY of her style but 100% copy of Missing Persons. You really need to do some research on music history and watch all Missing Person's videos along with other 80s videos. If GaGa would come out and give credit to taking styles right out of the 80s I doubt people would be as against her. People would probably promote her even more (or support). But as of now she has the Vanilla Ice curse :)
She is not a 100% copy of Missing Person's. She took inspiration and made it her own. If Gaga is a copy of Missing Persons then Missing Persons is a copy of Grace Jones since she was around with her avant garde style way before Missing Persons. Which she in turn would be a copy of Avant Garde artists such as Bowie, Liberace, Labelle, Cher and Josephine Baker.
I know music history much better then you and Gaga took nothing from Missing Persons. She just has a weird and Avant Garde style like them. The only people who are against her are fools on the net who know nothing about music history and who think anyone with a weird or avant garde style is a copy of their favorite artists as if they originated this style.
Most people know that Gaga is not a rip off and the only ones who think she is are jealous fanboys with a jacked up standard of originality that only applies to Gaga and not to their favorite artists .
I know Roisin Murphy and am a fan of her. Gaga did not rip off Roisin Murphey. They are merely weird avant garde artists. If Gaga ripped off Roisin then Roisin ripped off Grace Jones, Cher Labelle et all because all of these avant garde artists came before her.
AHHHH! The only difference is that Missing Persons was and is a Band,, LADY JA JA is anything but a SOLO artist. Somebody writes her songs , picks out her war drobes , session musicians everything is catered to her ALL she has to do is loooooook goooood that is her JOB......=-) LATER
@hootyhaha it's not sad at all. What's sad is that some from the 80's miss their young years so much that they feel that any modern talent must be belittled. Any human watching gaga play and sing then thinking that she's unoriginal is kinda pathetic. All musicians are influenced.
@MissTeenPregnancy That's possibly the most illogical thing in the entertainment arena that I've ever read. How does your statement equate for the people in the 80s who insulted 80s culture? Or for the grown ups in todays culture who will still insult parts of 80s culture. It has nothing to do with what you claim. People missing their years causes them to insult todays talent? I'm of the younger generation today and I can't stand what we get. All we get are remakes in almost every arena.
@MissTeenPregnancy That's pretty silly missteen. Well, your first statement is silly. Your last statement is spot on. There is no real originality left anymore. What bothers me is when somebody like GaGa acts like she's the first person to ever do what she's doing and never tip her hat to her influences which in this case is obviously the 80s, not just missing persons. Everything Gaga does is straight out of the 80s and yes even the 70s disco era.
@MissTeenPregnancy Where did you get the connection of the 80s people belitteling things just because they weren't from the 80s? What's pathetic are the people who refuse to accept the obvious. You probably don't even know when you're listening to a cover song considering most songs today are covers. Do you think The Black Eyed Peas do all original work? If you can't see GaGa copying this you're clearly in denial , or deluding yourself, or both.
@hootyhaha I guess Dale is unoriginal because it looks like Ziggy Stardust to me. Damn, now I can't like Missing Persons anymore...not original enough. Can I still like Bowie or did someone else do stuff like this before him?
@Vedren2 That's a pretty simple minded analogy you're trying to come up with. When performers copy each other within their same time era, that's common. Just like the grunge years. It was common for so many bands to look and sound the same. But she's borrowing from 25 years or more. It's the fact that she's claiming it as her own style as are some of the simple minded media out there. That's what' so many here are pointing out that only a few of you can't seem comprehend.
@hootyhaha She has never "claimed it as her own". Ive heard her in many interviews talk about her influences openly and adoringly - like any other fan. Its the media that has portrayed her style as unique; because compared to the other 'pop stars' which were currently circulating, it was. Plus making a huge hype over a "meat dress" or some whacky unique outfit sells magazines.
@brolltitch She might now that she realizes she can't fool anybody. But before she claimed it as her own style several times on morning talk shows where she thought only housewives were watching. There are interviews with her online here that she is saying it's her own style. She either grew up and realized she was honestly influenced and now admitting it, or just got scared of ridicule and admitting it now.
@texformer To me it is silly to judge a musical act so harshly on the fact that other people dressed like space cadets first. Missing Persons, GaGa, Alice Cooper, Elton John, Marylin Manson.....it goes on and on. They put on a crazy show, but all of their music sounds different. If I see a rock band wearing make-up I am not just going to switch the chanel and assume they are just copying kiss. I am gonna stick around and see if their sound is good. Someone wore make up first, big deal.
Those are some of the COOLEST instruments I've ever seen. The electronic drums Terry Bozzio is playing actually did work, I remember seeing footage of him playing them live. Looks like early KAT Drums of some kind, as I don't remember anything like that sold to musicians. Custom drums? Anyone know? They extend overhead too! Love that stuff, I setup my SPD's the same way.
Cuccurullo futuristic glass double neck guitar looks custom - he did use one without that U thing for Duran Duran later.
To add, Lady GaGa not only got her style from Dale Bozzio of Missing Persons, but also David Bowie, Jobriath, Roxy Music, Blondie, Culture Club, The Plazmatics, Adam and the Ants, the Pointer Sisters, and any Harajuku girl in Japan. There are definitely much more that I can point to, as others have pointed out. But, I think this is enough to add to everyone's point and make younger audiences realize that much more existed before Lady GaGa landed on planet earth.
lady gaga is such a rip-off! her biggest influence has to be dale bozzio, and what's sad is that she probably doesn't know who dale bozzio is. there are others in lady gaga's "style". david bowie, cher, labelle, madonna, and a george clinton produced group by the name of parlet to name a few.
@supastardjtzone GAGA is a straight up hood-rat and I am sure has never heard of missing persons....GAGA is total lack of taste or perspective working with slick producers and engineers.....
@Gerbear70 Spring Session M was a great album...but Rhyme & Reason was the BEST of all three albums produced. Your vile comment is unwarranted. And your taste in music (Kiss) is horrible. KISS SUCKED. Gene Simmons and crew look like a bunch of retards with 0 talent. And for your informtion...the reason the band died YEARS later was because of the SHITTY label they signed with....dumbass.
@PUTSOUTHINYOURMOUTH they also died because dale and terry were having marital problems, but then again, the fact that they signed to a shitty label that was forcing them into directions that they didn't want to go in was probably 1 of the big things that caused a stain on their marriage. I guest it goes hand in hand. On another note, I personally enjoyed SPRING SESSION M a lot more as a whole than Rhyme & Reason, but we all have our own opinions and I respect yours.
@Gerbear70 If you don't like a song don't listen to it and don't waste your time commenting on how you don't like it, because it makes you look like an ass!
MANY THANKS to Capitol EMI for pressing Rhyme & Reason for me on CD. Sometimes you get what you ask for...I love my vinyl copy of this but for the car a genuine copy of this is a MUST. Rhyme & Reason is an amazing LP that is PERFECT IN EVERY WAY. IT JUST NEVER GETS OLD...NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES I HEAR IT!
Pretty amazing girl Dale Bozzio... Easily the hottest female performer of the 80's. Far hotter than Madonna. She worked with Frank Zappa too y'know...
luv U ASSHOLE LOSERS IF IT WASNT FOR BOZIzO there would be NO GAGA....and unfortunatley....we have GAGA THINKING AND U CHUMP YOUNGER LOSER GANG BANG .....LOSER music bands that dont have an ORIGINAL BONE IN YOUR BODY lmfao PUNKS ....todays music SUX MORE THAN ANY OTHER generation ever....BECAUSE of black whiney ass and whitety spoiled brat MENTALITY....IMMMATURE LOOOOSERS lmfao!!!!!!!!!!!
hahah...funny!!!@ varsume ... dude you hate her and you're in here watching her videos...lol what a punk... and yeap she does look like lady gaga... she's her # 1 inspiration she just forgot to say so...lol
@MadameSueZ ...oh, wow....I must make a correction, Lady Gaga...drum roll please...looks like Dale Bozzio..not Dale Bozzio looks like Lady Gaga....Dale Bozzio is an original and sorry but Lady Gaga was inspired by her....Lady Gaga is cool, but she should have came up with a different image and not Dale's...but at least the younger generation can experience a little of the 80's in originality...it seems the singers today to a lot of copying from original artist.
@valerysgirl *yea you got it !!! but see even people from this era know 80's , 50's, 20's heck even classic shit sooo it becomes boring when people grab that type of inspiration... i would just love to feed my brain fresh and completely newly born ideas!!! ideas that came from their hearts ... it's like brains are going instinct ^_^
I never paid enough attention to lady Ggag to notice it but yeah she is a total rip off of dale. But without the talent of Terry and the experience of working with Frank Zappa behind her. Dale unfortunately is behind bars right now for animal neglect. I wish her all the best in her new company and I just became her 13th follower on Twitter. =)
great makeup and style!

@freejeffsamples1 while very dubious and discerning and a bit of a music snob, i'm very open-minded and love when new hyped artists take me by surprise.
i do find gaga very attractive and smart. it's just i have no idea why i'm supposed to be impressed by her as songwriter or musician. i am honestly waiting for that moment when one of her songs moves me. in any way.

No wonder music today pretty much sucks..sorry!! But everyone from Tupac, to Snoop, to Jay z, to Ms Nicki and everyone in between...has had to throw in the bad-ass sick sounds and re-mixes of the 70's Bee Gees to 80's Muzik...just to supplement their now "popular Sh*t." @hellbentbliss Generic? It's just dance music, never been a very deep genre. You have no idea how weird and ahead of their time they were for the 80's. You need to keep things in perspective to the era it was released. What looks tame and generic now was not viewed that way 30 years ago...

Before Lady Gaga, there was Missing Persons. It's sad that so many people think Gaga is original. Remind people of this fact.
hootyhaha 1 year ago 45
Gaga is original she took inspiration from older styles and made it her own. Gaga and Bozzio both have an Avant Garde style that is it and their styles have quite a bit of differences as well. Also Bozzio was not the first person to have a weird style before Gaga and Bozzio there was Grace Jones, Labelle, Cher, Josephine Baker and other. Plus I hate when I come on videos of other artists everyone is always obsessed about Gaga. Let's talk about missing persons since they are the ones singing.
0Sindel12 10 months ago
@0Sindel12 You contradict your faulty logic in your first sentence alone. If she was original she would not need to borrow at all to which you admit she did. Face it. GaGa is a creation from a corporation and that corporation has no originality either, they're making her act like somebody else. And that does not apply to just GaGa, it applies to other copy cats in the entertainment industry.
hootyhaha 10 months ago 17
No one is original in the sense that you all think of it in the sense that they have no influences or borrow from other artists. As I have said no one has a copyright on Avant Garde styles not Gaga, Bozzio or the people who came before both of them. Next Gaga is a creation of herself she designed her own clothes, writes her own songs and choreographs her own dances.
0Sindel12 9 months ago
Point in fact she refused a contract from Def Jam records because they wanted her to dress and sing in a way that she did not want to. So your argument that they are making her act a certain way is false because Gaga has always chosen to act as she is. Gaga is not a copycat she is an artist who took her influences and made them her own. Just as Bozzio is and all other artists. So you apparently don't know much about music.
0Sindel12 9 months ago
@0Sindel12 No she didn't. They'll tell lemmings anything to make a story seem good to get a cookie cutter performer fans, so they make more money.
hootyhaha 9 months ago
Yes she did you can check with Def Jam themselves and they will coroboate her story and they feel stupid for letting her go. I doubt Def Jam would make up a story that makes themselves look bad. This actually happened and your conspiracy theory crap will not change this.
0Sindel12 9 months ago
@0Sindel12 the fact that she dresses and sometimes acts exactly as The Missing Persons sort of points out that she is indeed a copy cat, just like all artists today who can't come up with their original style our sound. I'd be willing to bet that more than 80% of the younger gen today don't realize they are listening to so many cover tunes of songs already done between the 60s to the 80s. Gaga is no different. Stop being such a fanboy which causes ignorance to facts.
texformer 9 months ago
Next she does not dress or act like The Missing Persons. Gaga has her own personality and is definitelyt seperate from this group. As I said if Gaga is a copycat then so is Dale because as I said Bowie, Grace Jones, Liberace, Cher, Labelle and Josephine Baker all came before her. Dale, Gaga nor any other artist has a copyright on weird. Plus Gaga has her own sound and it certainly isn't copied from anyone else. In fact sound wise there is no artist who is like her.
0Sindel12 9 months ago
@0Sindel12 Dale's iconism is due to Frank Zappa. She did not "copy" nor "rip-off" any other musician's style in order to become successful, which as unfortunate as it is, that's obviously not the case for Gaga. The coverart of Gaga's "The Cherrytree Sessions" is an excellent example of Gaga or her management adapting ideas from Missing Persons and Dale Bozzio. ...
CNSagent 9 months ago
Yes Dale's style is definitely influenced by other artists. Besides Frank Zappa which even you mention. I see her same Avant Garde style in Grace Jones, Cher, Labelle, Bowie, Liberache, Josephine Baker and many others. Also I have seen the cover art for the Cherry Tree sessions and it does not look like anything that Bozzio has done. Next actually Gaga has mentioned many artists as her influences and I believe Missing Persons is one of them.
0Sindel12 9 months ago
Next she does have an original style she took inspiration from others and made it her own. Just as Bozzio and every other artist in the world did. Next I would imagine that many people in the younger gen do not know that many songs now a days are covers. However there are just as much which are totally new songs. Actually Gaga is different because she has never sung a song that she did not right and has never done a cover of someone else's song. .
0Sindel12 9 months ago
@0Sindel12 ... To my knowledge, Gaga has not mentioned Missing Persons nor Dale as an influence, therefore, any allegedly inspired outfits, makeup or coverart is ultimately interpreted as a "copy" or "rip-off."
Dale made most of her outfits entirely from scratch -- and remeber, that was long before every middle-class American owned a home computer, or a cellphone, for that matter. ...
CNSagent 9 months ago
Also just because Gaga has outfits, make up or cover art that might look like Missing Persons and none of them are rip offs just vague coincidences. That dosen't mean that she ripped Bozzio off anymore then Bozzio ripped off Grace Jones, Labelle, Cher, Josephine Baker or any others that came before her. It just means that Gaga had a similar idea. Also Gaga makes and designs many of her outfits from scratch as well. In fact before she had money that is all she could do.
0Sindel12 9 months ago
@0Sindel12 Gaga's profile with the paint swash across her face on the cover of "The Cherrytree Sessions" is a poor copy (or possibly an homage to)/of the cover of "Spring Session M." It was Dale's idea to put the swash on the cover. I'm merely pointing out that blatant detail. Who's idea was it to put the swash on Gaga's album?
Dale is flattered to be compared to Grace Jones and Cher, however, she was not significantly influenced by the aforementioned artists. ...
CNSagent 9 months ago
However even if she did not that does not mean that she copied Dale it just means that they had similar ideas. Gaga no more copied Dale then Dale copied Cher, Grace Jones etc. Next I have seen both covers and I only see vague similarities between both sessions. Dale nor Gaga is the first artists to have covers with paint swashes on their faces. I have seen similar things with Grace Jones.
0Sindel12 9 months ago
@0Sindel12 ... As I have already mentioned, my argument is merely; numerous allegedly influential motives, yet no official mentioning of Missing Persons nor Dale. If you, or anyone else can proove otherwise, I will refrain from commenting about such actions. Until then, "game on." It's that simple.
(2)
CNSagent 9 months ago
I have seen paint swatches over numerous parts of a persons face on album covers not just the eyes. I read on different websites that Gaga said that Dale was an inspiration and I have heard Gaga credit inspirations such as Cher, Grace Jones, Bowie etc directly. However even if she did not that dosen't mean that she ripped her off it just means that Gaga had a similar idea.
0Sindel12 9 months ago
Hell she even made her famous disco stick from scratch. Point in fact Gaga writes her own songs, choreographs her own dances, and designs her own outfits even Bozzio can not claim that much. Plus Bozzio unlike many of these great Divas and Divos I have mentioned does not dress as wild as she used to and that is a shame.
0Sindel12 9 months ago
Just because Gaga had similar ideas to Dale does not mean that she ripped her off it just means that they had similar ideas ala by coincidence.Your have a one sided standard of ripping off.If Gaga in your mind has a similar style to another even by coincidence then she is a rip off but if Dale does it then it is just coincidence .
0Sindel12 9 months ago
I am not a fanboy I am a fangirl and the only one who is ignorant of the facts is you
0Sindel12 9 months ago
@0Sindel12 Apparently that's not the case considering everybody else saying that Gaga is a copy cat. And sorry for calling you a fanboy.
texformer 9 months ago 3
No only obsessive fans here are calling her a copy cat. The majority of the people in the world and fans of both Gaga and Missing Persons do not think she is a copy cat. As I said neither Gaga, Bozzio or those who came before them have a copyright on weird styles.
0Sindel12 9 months ago
@0Sindel12 Yeah Sindel, stop living in denial. Even though SOME of Gaga's stuff might seem catchy there's nothing original about her style. I mean look at the side related videos, it's obvious. And you're only lying to yourself while everybody in this thread recognizes the real point in facts that Gaga is not doing anything unique. Great voice, she can sing beautifully, but there's nothing special about her style. It's Blondie mixed with Missing Person's all over again.
AnnieLeeTX 9 months ago
No I am living in reality. Your wacko purists who think that in order to be original one must have zero inspiration and have no influences. Next yes her style is original as I have said she took inspiration and made it her own. However she does acknowledge her influences and inspirations. Next I have seen the side related videos and nothing has pointed that Gaga is a rip off.
0Sindel12 9 months ago
@0Sindel12 ... Dale, Warren and Terry busted their asses to become successful, and trust me when I tell you, they did not "copy" anyone's style.
(3)
CNSagent 9 months ago
Next it was Gaga who had the idea to put the swash on her own face as she is the one with control over these things. Next yes Dale was influences by Grace Jones and Cher because they had these Avant Garde styles way before her as did many others. If you want to deny that she was influenced by them simply because she did not credit them or she just had similar ideas and that it was a coincidence then I will say the same thing about Gaga.
0Sindel12 9 months ago
@0Sindel12 I'm Dale's son, so I know who Dale's influences are. Dale was not even remotely influenced by Grace Jones, nor Cher. The closest Dale ever came to being inspired by Grace Jones was dating Dolph Lundgren -- Dolph had dated Grace before Dale.
"Spring Session M" is the only album cover that I have ever seen consiting of a woman's profile with a paint swash across the woman's face with her eyes cut out, aside from "The Cherrytree Sessions." ...
CNSagent 9 months ago
As I have said I have seen similar looks from divas before Dale such as Cher, Grace Jones etc but that dosen't mean that Gaga or Bozzio ripped them off. Next you are Dale's son really! I would like a little proof before I accept this because anyone can claim to be related to stars on the net. However the point is that I see similar kinds of looks with Grace Jones and Cher regardless of whether your mother claims influences from these women.
0Sindel12 9 months ago
@0Sindel12 ... Now, she is back with Warren Cucurullo and a summer tour is in the works.
In regards to the similarities between Dale and Gaga, I suppose we can let sleeping dogs lie, for now at least. We have both repeatedly stated our beliefes.
Peace.
(2)
CNSagent 9 months ago
0Sindel12 9 months ago
While she might have similarities with Missing Persons and I don't really see the Blondie similarity she has her own style that she took and spun in a fresh new way to make something great. Just as all of these other great artists have done
0Sindel12 9 months ago
@0Sindel12 Top 3 conversations are from HootyHaHa and Sindel. HootyHaHA is right. Sindel is wrong. However I have to echo what another poster said. It doesn't change the fact that Gaga still has a great vocal talent and can sing great. But the same goes, her style is just a copy of Missing Person's and the 80s. Nothing new with her. And actually that's a compliment saying she's like the 80s, because the 80s were RAD! Look at it that way Sindel. She's bringing the Rad 80s back.
JunkionWreckgar 9 months ago
No I am right Gaga nor Bozzio nor any of the other people with a weird or Avant Garde style have a copyright on it. However I feel the same though with Gaga she is bringing back the Rad 80s back and should be supported for that. However Gaga is not a copy of Bozzio they have a similar style but there is differences. If Gaga is a copy of Bozzio then Bozzio is a copy of Grace Jones, Labelle, Cher, Josephine Baker etc.
0Sindel12 9 months ago
@0Sindel12 Cher was a Diva. She did not copy them. One could say that some bands during Missing Person's time were similar or an influence because that was the scene back then. However, when Gaga comes on the scene more than 20 years later reviving the look (again).. she's not inspired by the current times. She's copying the past, either that or her executives are telling her to do so. Do you think all the Boy Bands out there are original? Or do you understand that they're executive controlled?
JunkionWreckgar 9 months ago
Cher had her influences as did any artist and if it was not for Sonny Bono originally supporting her then she would most likely not have gotten a break. Next yes it is true that Gaga revived the Avant Garde and glam look and it is a good thing that she is not copying modern times. Gaga did this on her own accord she has her style not because some executive controls her in fact as I said she rejected working with execs at record companies because they tried to tell her what to do.
0Sindel12 9 months ago
@0Sindel12 ...
(2)
CNSagent 9 months ago
And her influences are also the women I mentioned because if you think that Dale's style is copied by Gaga even though the two are very different and since Gaga allegedly did not credit Dale then she must be a rip off. Then you must also say that Dale is a rip off as well because Grace Jones, Bowie, Labelle, Liberache, Cher, Josephine Baker and many others had this same style before her. Next I know that Gaga listed many artists as influences and I believe Missing Person's was one of them.
0Sindel12 9 months ago
Your mother probably has the same styles simply because by coincidence they had the same ideas. The same is true with Gaga. By the way tell your mother I am a big fan of her's and I hope for the best for her. Of also how is Dale doing I heard she was arrested for animal cruelty which just broke my heart and I hated that she got in that situation. Is she doing ok now?
0Sindel12 9 months ago

JunkionWreckgar 8 months ago 4
Yes it is her style because she had inspiration and made it her own. It is not Dale Bozzio's style either by your impossible standard of originality either because she did not invent it and took inspiration and made it her own as well. Furthermore Vanilla Ice actually took a piece of music from Queen Gaga just has a weird and Avant Garde style which no one has a copyright on.
0Sindel12 8 months ago
@0Sindel12 You're still making not a lot of sense. How can she make it her own style when it's not ANY of her style but 100% copy of Missing Persons. You really need to do some research on music history and watch all Missing Person's videos along with other 80s videos. If GaGa would come out and give credit to taking styles right out of the 80s I doubt people would be as against her. People would probably promote her even more (or support). But as of now she has the Vanilla Ice curse :)
JunkionWreckgar 4 months ago
She is not a 100% copy of Missing Person's. She took inspiration and made it her own. If Gaga is a copy of Missing Persons then Missing Persons is a copy of Grace Jones since she was around with her avant garde style way before Missing Persons. Which she in turn would be a copy of Avant Garde artists such as Bowie, Liberace, Labelle, Cher and Josephine Baker.
0Sindel12 4 months ago
I know music history much better then you and Gaga took nothing from Missing Persons. She just has a weird and Avant Garde style like them. The only people who are against her are fools on the net who know nothing about music history and who think anyone with a weird or avant garde style is a copy of their favorite artists as if they originated this style.
0Sindel12 4 months ago
Most people know that Gaga is not a rip off and the only ones who think she is are jealous fanboys with a jacked up standard of originality that only applies to Gaga and not to their favorite artists .
0Sindel12 4 months ago
@0Sindel12
Look up a performer named "Roisin Murphy" and you will reconsider how original LG is.
rickcain2320 1 month ago in playlist YouTube Mix for Missing Persons
I know Roisin Murphy and am a fan of her. Gaga did not rip off Roisin Murphey. They are merely weird avant garde artists. If Gaga ripped off Roisin then Roisin ripped off Grace Jones, Cher Labelle et all because all of these avant garde artists came before her.

hootyhaha 9 months ago 2
@hootyhaha it's not sad at all. What's sad is that some from the 80's miss their young years so much that they feel that any modern talent must be belittled. Any human watching gaga play and sing then thinking that she's unoriginal is kinda pathetic. All musicians are influenced.
MissTeenPregnancy 8 months ago
@MissTeenPregnancy That's possibly the most illogical thing in the entertainment arena that I've ever read. How does your statement equate for the people in the 80s who insulted 80s culture? Or for the grown ups in todays culture who will still insult parts of 80s culture. It has nothing to do with what you claim. People missing their years causes them to insult todays talent? I'm of the younger generation today and I can't stand what we get. All we get are remakes in almost every arena.
NeonPurpleMonkey 8 months ago 6
@MissTeenPregnancy That's pretty silly missteen. Well, your first statement is silly. Your last statement is spot on. There is no real originality left anymore. What bothers me is when somebody like GaGa acts like she's the first person to ever do what she's doing and never tip her hat to her influences which in this case is obviously the 80s, not just missing persons. Everything Gaga does is straight out of the 80s and yes even the 70s disco era.
AnnieLeeTX 8 months ago 9
@MissTeenPregnancy Where did you get the connection of the 80s people belitteling things just because they weren't from the 80s? What's pathetic are the people who refuse to accept the obvious. You probably don't even know when you're listening to a cover song considering most songs today are covers. Do you think The Black Eyed Peas do all original work? If you can't see GaGa copying this you're clearly in denial , or deluding yourself, or both.

Vedren2 8 months ago
@Vedren2 That's a pretty simple minded analogy you're trying to come up with. When performers copy each other within their same time era, that's common. Just like the grunge years. It was common for so many bands to look and sound the same. But she's borrowing from 25 years or more. It's the fact that she's claiming it as her own style as are some of the simple minded media out there. That's what' so many here are pointing out that only a few of you can't seem comprehend.
hootyhaha 8 months ago 11
@hootyhaha My reply to textformer above is what I am pointing out to see if it can be comprehended.
Vedren2 8 months ago
@hootyhaha She has never "claimed it as her own". Ive heard her in many interviews talk about her influences openly and adoringly - like any other fan. Its the media that has portrayed her style as unique; because compared to the other 'pop stars' which were currently circulating, it was. Plus making a huge hype over a "meat dress" or some whacky unique outfit sells magazines.
brolltitch 1 month ago
@brolltitch She might now that she realizes she can't fool anybody. But before she claimed it as her own style several times on morning talk shows where she thought only housewives were watching. There are interviews with her online here that she is saying it's her own style. She either grew up and realized she was honestly influenced and now admitting it, or just got scared of ridicule and admitting it now.
hootyhaha 1 month ago
@Vedren2 Dude really.. That was just silly.
texformer 8 months ago
@texformer To me it is silly to judge a musical act so harshly on the fact that other people dressed like space cadets first. Missing Persons, GaGa, Alice Cooper, Elton John, Marylin Manson.....it goes on and on. They put on a crazy show, but all of their music sounds different. If I see a rock band wearing make-up I am not just going to switch the chanel and assume they are just copying kiss. I am gonna stick around and see if their sound is good. Someone wore make up first, big deal.

This album is amazing. As much as I love Spring Session M, this is probably better and it's level of innovation hasn't been touched since.

missing persons are so much better than gaga.
abuzzme 1 year ago
lady gaga is such a rip-off! her biggest influence has to be dale bozzio, and what's sad is that she probably doesn't know who dale bozzio is. there are others in lady gaga's "style". david bowie, cher, labelle, madonna, and a george clinton produced group by the name of parlet to name a few.

@supastardjtzone GAGA is a straight up hood-rat and I am sure has never heard of missing persons....GAGA is total lack of taste or perspective working with slick producers and engineers.....

glad she didn't still this song...it sucks..no wonder the band died soon after...nothing beats the first EP and full length album.

PUTSOUTHINYOURMOUTH 1 year ago

I'll take Chrissie Hynde of the Pretenders over any other chick in a band in the 80's. Shs's washed up now but back in the day could rock.

I said it before and am saying it again, Dale and Siouxie Sioux were the the best females to front bands in the 80's.
