  • Can you change it for a blu-ray optical superdrive?

  • @TheSantiayo - You can change it for a blu-ray reader...but not a burner.

  • @PowerbookMedic does that mean it would not burn anything at all or only blu-rays?

  • @frunchzz - There are some blu-ray burners. They will burn blu-rays and other formats, but that will not read blu-ray movie discs.

  • @PowerbookMedic Thanks. If you had to recommend something as a replacement for the Superdrive, would you recommend anything but the Superdrive itself?

  • @frunchzz - I would only recommend the original model as a replacement at this time.

  • I have a MBPro 15" from mid 2009 (model A1286), I need to replace the superdrive because it's broke. Is it the same procedures, cause your tutorial is from 2008.

My dvd-RW is a MATSHITADVD-R UJ-868. Since I've discovered that there are a lot of other MBP users having problems with it, what is the best alternative drive for a decent price? I found some models like the Pioneer DVR-K06 (but the website dates from 2007) but is it still available or the Sony DW-Q78A.

  • @dabetiyeti - The alternative is the GS21N. It's available from our website.

  • @dabetiyeti get an external superdrive, 80 dollars.

  • same way to put it back right? put ribbon cable back on logic board? and yellow tape or is it different? cause im planning to do this but im just wanting to make sure i do it right.

  • @rocketfast23 - Yes, it's the same way just in reverse.

  • Can place an extra hdd in the old superdrive slot or is it really complicated to do ?

  • Yes you can. We sell an enclosure at our site called a DualDrive that allows you to do just that.

  • Awesome, sorry to comment again but are their any issues with Snow Leopard recognizing that there are two drives etc ?

  • No, there are no issues with Snow Leopard.

  • Yes, this will likely void your warranty.

  • this voids the warranty right?

  • you know some pc store charge 150 for labor alone.i know I can do it if someone show me.Thank you POwebook medic.

  • I did it !!!but i figured out to remove and attach the small brackets of the old drive to the new one.
