This part of the bridge is always used as in the spring/summer as 2-way span. Instead of using the west bound lanes for the west bound traffic,they use one of the west bound lanes for east bound traffic.Theres not enough east bound lanes for all the traffic going to the Eastern shore/Ocean City,MD. They need to fix this problem!
Whooo, I am a Marylander before I moved to North Carolina, I remember the Bay Bridge growing up and came across this....Makes my heart cry, all this happen because a driver took short cut to hook trailer up to the truck???? MAN! Its very sad to hear 3 lifes were lost due to this.....I don't know but he/will get 3 manslaughter charges and gross negligence and WOW the insurance company gotta have a huge payout......I said take his revoke his License, He never get insurance again ...RIP to the 3
The guy that failed to properly hook his trailer is only partially at fault. ALL accidents are preventable, though once certain events are in place, it is unavoidable. Everyone should drive as if the car in front of them is going to come to a screeching halt at any time. We all take shortcuts with safety, whether it's neglecting the proper hookup or not leaving proper distance.
We should all be thankful that we are alive today and have sympathy for those who are not. R.I.P to all those in this tragic accident and may your families live their lives as if you were still on this Earth and keep you in their hearts.

i remember that on the maryland bay bridge, i was on my way to ocean city when that happened, i was about 15 cars back from the accident alll i saw was the trailor come unhitched and a red truck hit it, but since cars were everywhere i couldn't see everything

I remember in 1988, when an out of control field burning swept across I-5 just south of where i live. caused a 23 car pile up. 8 people were killed (most burnt alive), while 38 others were injured. My Dad was in that one, and somehow made it out unscathed. But that being said, RIP to the dearly departed, and may peace find their loved ones.

However, they declined to press any charges against the driver as there aren't any laws on the books regarding (im)proper vehicle towing in Maryland. They figure that the homemade trailer came loose while bouncing over the joints on the bridge span.
This accident occurred on the westbound Chesapeake Bay Bridge near Annapolis, MD on May 10, 2007. The span was in two way traffic operation. A trailer being towed by a Lincoln Navigator operated by Stephen Burt of Bethesda was NOT LOCKED by pin to the vehicle and broke loose. Vehicles behind the trailer swerved to avoid it, crossing over the center line and causing three deaths (including a father and son) and multiple injuries. Lawsuits are filed against the MdTA and Burt over the crash.

this crash was horrible. ivestigators couldnt figure out how the cars got so mangled going only 70. they said that the one sedan and the red truck has damage matching 130mph crashes.
my great grrandma was it that. at first i thought she was going to be ok, but then i got the sad news that she died. the horribly sight at the funeral, and this sight of the tragedy was dispickible. my mom cried for 3 days. my sister was going to visit her and was hopping to meet her at her appartment, my sister nor my great grandma was never seen. my sister heard of the news, she cried with my mom, i was at home when this happened. im extremely sad this happened. this was a sad day

I remember this. I live on the Eastern Shore of MD... a son and father passed away. So sad. Traffic was locked for hours.

this crash was horrible. ivestigators couldnt figure out how the cars got so mangled going only 70. they said that the one sedan and the red truck has damage matching 130mph crashes.

my great grrandma was it that. at first i thought she was going to be ok, but then i got the sad news that she died. the horribly sight at the funeral, and this sight of the tragedy was dispickible. my mom cried for 3 days. my sister was going to visit her and was hopping to meet her at her appartment, my sister nor my great grandma was never seen. my sister heard of the news, she cried with my mom, i was at home when this happened. im extremely sad this happened. this was a sad day

that's an awful thing that happened...and it's really awful knowing that could have very well been you. The Bay Bridge is intense and fast paced....and when something like this happens, there is no where to go...what would you do, you know? :(

wtf, its the maryland "chesapeke bay bridge" not any other bridge.
Its not double decker. Its 2 lanes to the eastern shore and 3 coming back towards annapolis.
This was certainly a sad day.
